@silas. — hours later —
noah wiggled and stretched his arms over his head as he yawned, sleep subsiding as he slowly woke up. the first thing he noticed was how cozy he’d gotten in the middle of the night, stuck between his mama and pa although his bum had ended up on pa’s chest and his head on his ma’s belly. Still, it was arguably the best sleep he ever had! Wait, maybe the night when he drank too much choco milk and knocked out in five minutes after his sugar high was... regardless, he liked it very much!
Carefully so as not to wake either of them up, he made a grab for his dino plushie and slid out of bed, small hand reaching up to wipe his eyes. He liked it when he was up before mama was; she always made him sit at the table and they would talk over breakfast. But maybe... he thought to himself, lower lip jutting out into a little pout as he plopped down onto the carpeted living room floor. Maybe he can do something nice for her; it was Mama’s Day after all. With a resolute little nod, he waddled over to the little box he owned where he kept all of his colored pencils and crayons and got them all out, hell bent on doing something nice for the best woman in his life.
@silas. it had always hurt but at that very moment, aspen could breathe. finally, after six long years. and she inhaled all she could, his scent, their son’s and how life was at that very minute. to show him that she held him to his words, she leaned forward, pressing a dulcet kiss to his lips.
i know and thank you, silas.. now sleep, okay?
@aspen. though her words stung in a bitter flutter of his heart, he could only smile at her through the dark. he understood her through and through and even if it took his entire lifetime to reassure her that he intended to stay until the day he takes his last breath, he'd still do it. he gives her smaller hand another squeeze and nods.
don't be sorry, ceol mo chroí.. i know my words may not be enough...so i'll show you instead. every single day that i'm here, alive on this earth. i will wait for you, aspen.
@silas. her heart immediately wrenches and pulls in sadness as she looks down at noah; he finally had his father in his life but on her own self, it was still surreal. blinking back tears, she beams gently at him.
it’s going to be hard for me to take that... but wait for me, okay? i have to take it with a grain of salt, im sorry, mon coeur.
@aspen. noah's position pulls his focus from aspen for a moment, and he smiles at their precious son, realizing how big he'd gotten even in the short months they shared together. his thumb caresses the back of aspen's, attentive to her confession and fears with his voice softening.
you won't have to go through all of that again because now i'm here. you don't have to be afraid anymore because whatever happens.. we have each other, and we'll get through it. no matter what the end to those ifs are.
@silas. i promise.. i missed being called that, you know.
she whispers, dropping her voice a bit when noah shifts in his sleep, his face pressed against her chest and his bum atop silas’s and the sight makes her giggle under her breath. but at his reassurance, she nods, squeezing his hand in turn.
i know... but i am scared, silas. of a lot of things because what if i go through all that again? i dont think i will be able to handle it if...
@aspen. i am, my love.. only if you promise to keep talking to me.
adjusting the blanket to better cover them, silas felt relieved that what they now had wasn't all a dream. when he hears the hesitation in her voice, he holds her hand tighter, letting her know that he was right there with her.
it's okay. we don't have to talk about it if you don't want to, baby. but know that i'm here and i'm never leaving you. nothing you say will scare me away.
