Six month of his paid detention in the confines of the precinct's paper based prison has played a number on the ex street officer. If he used to be very reluctant to even get anything done, he simply read solved cases so as to help provide new angles in unsolved cases and was hooked from day one. They were those thrillers or detective stories to piece together. And there were several main characters in rotation. But few were his favorite, and none compared to the homicide detective Jiang Yuying.

Detective Jiang was special because she was known for being a closer, all her cases led to a conviction or at least none seemed to go cold for too long. She also happened to succeed all by herself, a mode operantum Derek had tried to make his and maybe failed, back when he was still allowed in the field. So maybe he had to be less impressive than Detective Jiang and be paired for his first field case after months in the archives. Maybe, he would need to learn the basics all over again with a partner.
That he could understand.

What seemed to make no sense however was to be partnered on his first comeback field case, with none other than Jian Yuying. This had to be some kind of a punishment to her and Derek could only regret to be the instrument of punishment here. On his way to the meeting point provided by his sergant, he drilled into himself to be all but the cop who would get too creative (or rather, too destructive). He paused there, in the regular uniform and simply waited for, dare he say, his partner for the day.
