Dohyun jolted awake, drenched in sweat. His heart was beating against his ribcage as his crazed eyes flickered around the dark bedroom, his hand immediately going for the rifle beside the bed— he never slept without it close by. You never knew what lurked in the shadows even when they were fortified in their cozy colony. No where was safe. He inched closer to the door, his breathing ragged as his heart continued to beat violently against his chest. Was it all in his head? No. He wasn’t crazy. The man hesitated before reaching out to twist the doorknob, swinging it open.
No one.
He was met with pitch darkness. Not a cricket or crow in sight. He let out a sigh of relief, his shoulder dropping and gun hanging loosely by his side. It was all just a bad dream-
DOHYUN!
A woman, drenched in blood darted towards him. The closer she got, the more grotesque her features were. But Dohyun couldn’t bring himself to lift up the gun. It was Sieun. His Fiancé. The madness in her eyes were evident. It was evil. It was demonic. But he couldn’t kill her. Not again. Not when it felt like a piece of him died along with her last breath. A pained wail left his lips as she grabbed him.
And Dohyun jolted awake, drenched in sweat and gasping for air. Only this time he was awake. He could still feel her blood on his hands. He wanted to vomit. This was a common occurrence for him— sleepless nights until his body couldn’t take it any more and so he would sleep only to be trapped in his hellish nightmare. It was endless. He looked up at the ceiling and fisted the sheets into his hands as he tried to steady his breathing, eyes darting around to ground himself to the present.
