The Montagues have been back for a while, using their quiet years in Verona to plan and plot the best way to claim what was theirs again. But there is no doubt that they come with trouble. The shadows and the darkest parts of the country were their best allies and it explained a lot why every single dirty and filthy secret Verona had to offer had a whisper of the Montague name on it.
The Montagues have established themselves as a house of crimes, introducing illicit substances, opening businesses that toed the line between legal and blatant sin and so forth, to slowly work their way through the city.
Despite how dark and sinister the Montague business had gotten, they were smart in handling their work, pushing enough to get what they wanted but under-handling just enough to not be caught. It was a cunning ruse, to take what was your enemies’ right under their nose in broad daylight but the Montagues were never cowards, were they?
In this time, the Capulets remain resilient in their rule; nothing will get in the way between them and their power, not even measly outsiders and pesky Montagues. The Capulets underestimation is probably their biggest mistake but why be bothered when there is a bigger fish to fry aka a country to rule? Verona was theirs and it was theirs to not only reap the benefits out of but also theirs to protect.
Verona had grown into a bustling city that rivaled even the biggest metropolis around the world. It had everything to give, a vacation spot, a home and a safe haven but it was always so much more. But perhaps time would tell, whether there was truly even an ounce of redemption and true innocence for the country that seemed to be grappled by hands that were too greedy and too power hungry.
