Why Points Are Now 10 a Day Per Account

A few weeks ago I noticed that the server was running especially slowly. The load average was very high but there weren't any new users on. So I investigated and it turned out that just 4 users were massively spamming their RPs to rack up their account points. What that does is create a massive write activity to the database on disk and when it comes to reads vs writes, write activity is the slowest and most resource consuming activity of the two. In effect, just 4 users were capable of slowing down the server for 200 others just because they wanted to rack up account points that can't even be used for much of anything right now.

There were two ways of dealing with that: either impose limits and restrictions to people posting on roleplays or simply remove the incentive of spamming in the first place. For now, the latter seems to be the better choice since no one wants limits to their roleplays (although this might happen someday anyway depending on what else happens).

As for the points being zeroed out, it was the only way to install the new system. Sorry about that.

the things people do.
it's like karma ratings all over again.

or maybe they are just advertising. are the points in the RP-character profiles affected with this daily (10) activity points?
i sure hope not. it will be a load of work for admins whose RP are dependent on points to keep on logging the player's points daily.
