Earth. The once-green and blue planet is now enveloped in a murky and dank cover of poisonous clouds that completely stifles the ground beneath it. Hardly any sunlight is able to reach the actual surface of the planet, most are reflected off by the clouds and thus, Earth is very cold. So cold that the temperature hardly goes above 50F°, even on the rare days that the clouds part just enough so that the sun can be seen faintly. Hardly anything that relies on the sun's rays to nourish it is able to grow in the now poisoned earth and so, only the hardy survive such as mushrooms or plants that require little light. With the extinction of so many food sources, many of the animals also died as ecosystems collapsed and entire species were wiped out with the nuclear blasts.
After the last nuclear war that drove out the rich and powerful into space and plunged the wasted Earth into what they thought would be desolation, those who still remained down on the surface were exposed to the various toxins that seeped into everything. Mutations and gruesome transformation occurred from these devastating elements, completely changing most of the population into... Something else. Different species who endangered those who were not as transformed as them. Cannibalism swelled as the last of the herbivores either died out or changed, the mutated creatures having to eat each other or eat others.
The government of the Eternal Realm is a monarchy, ruled by one King. The King is the most powerful being in the Realm, and their race becomes the dominant and highest class of the Realm. For the last 500 years, the ruler has been a vampire, who is known as the Dracula. His true name is unknown to commoners, who refer to him with honorifics and proper titles. If any being can defeat the Dracula, they will assume control of the entire Realm, and if they are not a vampire, their race will become the dominant race.
The Dracula rules the Realm, but he has a Council of Elders, creatures who give voice to the lesser beings. The Council of Elders is composed of Vampire Nobility and Pure Bloods, The Great Alpha Wolf, the Banshee Queen, and the Witch of Shadows. (See The Notorious for details)
The King and his Enforcers deal with all crime in the Realm. The King has a room full of weapons - guns with silver bullets, stakes, exorcism equipment, you name it, it's there. All criminals will be tried by the Council, and the King will be the final Judge. The King is one for dramatics, and has a pool of Holy Water somewhere in the courtyard of the Castle, for very public executions of Vampires. The most popular death sentence for Werewolves is a shooting squad, with only one gun holding a silver bullet. Ghost executions are extremely dramatic sights, as exorcisms are loud and frightening. To be exorcised will throw a Ghost into Limbo - a deadly place between life and death, where no consciousness can be assumed.
Earth may be covered in the ruins of the cities that fell when things all crumbled, but slowly, slowly, places are being rebuilt. Asia is the most populated currently, though there are some nomadic people, particularly Werewolves, who explore further, not to mention Vampires expanding the new empire. The King rules from his Castle - a towering fortress that reaches for the sky with dramatic spires and lies where Seoul once was.
Vampires - As the ruling class of the Eternal Realm, Vampires have the most luxurious homes and largest living space. The populate the the Main City, surrounding the Castle, or live in seclusion, up in mountains. Most vampires choose to have large, splendorous homes full of staff and fresh blood. They often threaten the Human Coven for sacrifices to feed on. Rarely will the Humans agree to this, which means most blood banks are stocked with stolen humans.
Werewolves - Werewolves are nomadic creatures, and they rarely stay in one place. They prefer to roam in woodsy places, liking the cover of trees and avoid, for the most part, the Main City, due to their enmity with Vampires. Some Werewolf Packs have agreements with the Human Coven, an agreement to provide protection from the Vampires, who try to kidnap humans for blood, in return for temporary shelter. These agreements rarely last long, and are often not fully trusted, seeing as the wolves often end up accidentally devouring the very people they are supposed to protect, in a wolfish hunger.
Humans - The whole of the Human population is comprised into a Coven, which is a widespread community hidden in woods, stretching through a desert as well. There is a capital of the Coven, the Ruby Center, which is where The Witch of Shadows' home resides. The Ruby Center is full of people, extremely talented Witches and Wizards, and all sorts of interesting characters who feel the need to be in the Center. All humans are guarded and paranoid, no matter where they live, and mistrust all mystical beings, for good reason.
Ghosts - Ghosts, for the most part, dwell in the places they spent their lives. A few places are blessed, to keep Ghosts out, but mostly these dwellings become Hauntings, places where Ghosts reside as long as they remain in the Realm. Most people will leave their homes when a Ghost takes up residence there, because Ghosts are terrible house guests. Even after a Ghost moves on, a Haunting will usually remain a Safe Haven for wayward ghosts, who were unable to return to their original homes.
