≈ Human ≈
Humans in the Realm are a bit more able than average humans. Every human can use magic. The strength of magic varies, though no one knows why. The most powerful humans, also called Witches and Wizards, speak of Seeing the Song, or the Harmony. This may seem strange, but it is essentially saying that humans with strong magical affinities can see the flow of energy in the world, and thus, can channel magic more successfully. A human’s powers can be anything, from elemental powers to realities to mimicry. That said, a human cannot have the power to be virtually a vampire or werewolf, with their strengths. The powers of Humans are considered to be in 3 levels.
Despite the fact that Humans are considered the weakest race and are regarded as prey to almost all other creatures of the Realm, they are actually the Original Race. They populated the Realm for years and lived happily before the first Pure Blood came out of the dark and began to spread his darkness, and in turn, the world was lapsed into an age of bloodshed. Now, with Werewolves devouring them and vampires their blood, the humans are all extremely paranoid and extremely prepared, and have weapons able to kill these beasts if necessary.
Level One - Level One humans are the humans who have the least amount of magical affinity. They may have some small abilities, usually telekinesis, but this is not enough to protect themselves from the predators of the Realm. Level Ones make up the greatest ranks of Werewolf Hunters, Vampire Slayers, and Exorcists, because of this. Trained from a young age, Hunters and Exorcists are armed with powerful weapons and are at the peak of their physical abilities. They may not have much magic, but they have created the means to protection in this different way. The leaders of these 3 hunting groups are shrouded in mystery, and very few people actually meet them.
Level Two - Level Two humans are humans who have potential to be great. This is usually how Level Three’s begin. Level Two’s powers are almost always Elemental, a basic but dangerous power range. Many Level Two’s who do not plan on becoming Witches or Wizards will join a Hunting group, and use their powers to better accomplish missions.
Level Three - Level Threes are extremely powerful Humans, also called Witches and Wizards. Their powers can be anything, and often, they are not limited to one type of Magic. Level Threes are taken on by The Witch of Shadows to be apprentices if they pass her entrance exam, and most will go on to pursue a life of magical work. A few do choose to become Hunters, but usually these cases are following a family tradition. Witches and Wizards have the ability to see the Song, also known as the Harmony, which is the flow of energy and power in the Realm. This enables them to wield magic even more powerfully.
Strengths
Magic .
All humans are connected and stick together, so no troubles inside the ranks of humans.
Weapons not available to other races.
Safe havens (churches, other holy places).
Weaknesses
Mortal.
Varying strength of abilities.
Extinction/difficult living-their ranks are falling as more and more are killed by other races.
At a great disadvantage to stronger races.
≈ Ghost ≈
These beings are creatures whose bodies have left and moved on but their souls remain, with some goal in mind. You may only become a Ghost if you are killed, so if you die by natural circumstances, your soul will not linger. All ghosts have something they remain for, typically vengeance, or a final message they want to deliver. Unfortunately, it ends up being difficult moving on after completing their mission. Ghosts often are also Banshees, though there are a few exceptions, ghosts who are not granted the abilities of a banshee.
Banshees - These are ghosts who are gifted the ability of sight. They can see the future of any individual, but unfortunately, they only see the grim things, mainly, death. Most banshees are driven mad by these horrific sights and never get to achieve their goal for lingering. Some choose to visit every soul they foresee die and warn their families, screeching and sobbing. Some hide away, and only tell people their fates if they come to them to ask. Banshee’s have unnaturally shrill voices if they are glimpsing the future, or if they go to deliver this message, but on day-to-day basis’s, they speak as a regular person, albeit softly.
Strengths
Invisibility at times.
Invulnerable to physical attacks.
Able to phase through any solid object; able to become solid - they may form a type of existence to sit on something or pick something up, though focus is necessary, as a lapse in patience or a great surprise could lead to dropping through something.
Possession, though this is very difficult.
Weaknesses
Unable to do physical harm with their own hands; though they can possess bodies or use their psychic powers to move objects.
They are possessed by their goal for remaining, and often this is what consumes them, achieving their goal to move on happily.
Cannot, or extremely difficult to, have a peaceful existence while a ghost.
Animals fear them.
Exorcisms can force them to leave the earth and throw them into Limbo (a state of nothing).
Telltale Signs of a Ghost
Translucent or if you focus hard, you can see right through them.
Cannot eat or drink.
Cannot sleep.
While maintaining a solid form, they are usually pale or strangely colored.
Extremely cold presence, the air freezes in their presence.
Strange eyes, either glowing or odd color.
Their cause of death is branded on them. For example, if someone was hung, they will have a brand around their neck, often looking similar to a rope.
Identifying Possession
The ability of ghosts to possess people and animals is one that is feared and respected. Ghosts often possess people to accomplish something, and usually they will ask to do so before doing it, but not always. There are a few ways to tell if someone is possessed:
The person is extremely cold, at Ghost temperature.
The person is acting unusual, or out of character.
The person takes on the Ghost’s brand, for the time of Possession.
Their eyes do not reflect, if you look closely.
Werewolves are frightening beasts who are human by day and wolf by night, and are especially strong on the night of the full moon. They are commonly creatures who are born into the linage, as the victims of a werewolf bite WILL turn into a werewolf too, if they actually are not devoured in the attack. In their wolf state, these beasts have no human thoughts, and are pure instinct, save a select few who are extremely old and wizened. Werewolves consider them better and more human than vampires, and insist that they are not evil but vampires are, and in their human form, werewolves are kind to humans. That said, in their wolf form they lose all sense of control and humans are easy prey.
Strengths
Super strength and speed, in both forms, and superior senses.
They have prolonged youth, and age very slowly, their longest time lasting while they are in their prime energy.
They can transform into a ferocious wolf creature by will, though it takes a great deal of power to control.
Claws strong enough to break a vampire’s skin, though Vampires are much faster.
Weaknesses
Silver, especially silver bullets,
Extinction (Huge drop in number of female Werewolves),
Decapitation, and a vampire’s bite is fatal.
Wolfsbane can keep them at bay, though consuming it won’t kill them, they will avoid it as long as they can sense it. Painful shifting when young and a loss of sense as wolves.
Werewolves are natural enemies to Vampires. That said, they let the King rule them because he has proven himself the strongest.
Signs to Identify a Werewolf
Thick, dark hair.
Muscular as humans.
Often golden or yellow eyes.
Travel in Packs, and are obedient to Alpha.
Skin unnaturally hotter than normal.
Heartbeat is twice as fast as a usual human.
Fast regenerative abilities.
Strong aversion to silver.
Rough or coarse voices, as if a growl, almost.
Becoming a Werewolf
As previously stated, MOST werewolves are BORN. A child born into this lineage has their first shift sometime from the age of 10-12. They continue to grow, albeit slowly, and they will continue to gain more power over shifting, and it will become less painful. A werewolf’s ability to shift will never fade, though doing so when your body is very old is dangerous, as the risk of not returning to your true form is strong. To be bitten by a werewolf will cause you to become a werewolf IF you are left alone, to let the venom spread and take hold. This is rare, however, since werewolves devour their prey, and only extremely old werewolves have learned to do this. Shifting will always be painful for these werewolves, and they will be bound to the werewolf who bit them and changed them, serving them as long as they live.
The social upper class of the Eternal Realm. They are creatures of the night, often referred to as Beasts in Human Form. They feed on the blood of all beings, even other vampires. There are several classes of vampires, and in this way they identify the elite from the scum who might as well be humans, or maybe even worse than humans.
Pure Bloods - The absolute top of the food chain. Pure bloods are far and few, because their lines have been weakened by marriages to lower vampires, or even humans. These vampires are revered and respected, and not anything to mess. They rule the lower classes and the actual King of the Realm is a pure blood. They are the strongest type of vampire and have the least amount of weaknesses.
Strengths
Super strength, super speed, superior senses.
Immortal and eternal youth, individual powers that are gifted only to pure bloods, and each one is unique to that pure blood. These gifts usually center on elemental powers, though they can ultimately concern anything, enthrallment, and talons.
Weaknesses
Decapitation, holy water, stakes.
struggle to enter a home without being invited, but some can fight this.
Rely on blood for life.
Nobility - These are the 2nd level vampires. They are children of Common Vampires and Pure Bloods, their blood is less pure but they are still revered as creatures that were never human. They are extremely powerful but have fewer powers and more weaknesses than pure bloods.
Strengths
Super strength, super speed, superior senses,
Immortal and eternal youth*,
Talons.
Weaknesses
Decapitation, holy water, stakes.
Cannot enter a home without being invited.
Struggle to cross flowing water; direct sunlight is painful, but not lethal.
Rely on blood for life.
Common Vampires - The 3rd level of Vampires. These are beings who were originally humans (Or some other creature, rarely) and were bitten by a vampire. They gained all the usual powers of vampires, but suffer from more hindrances and are either more in touch with their human side, leading to them being “vegetarian” or they are driven mad by this, making them blood crazed and essentially, become Thralls.
Strengths
Super strong, super speed, superior senses,
Immortal and eternal youth*,
SOME have talons.
Weaknesses
Decapitation, holy water, stakes.
Cannot enter homes without invitation.
Difficult to cross flowing water.
Direct sunlight burns, aversion to garlic, and crosses can slow them.
They cannot enter churches either.
Rely on blood for life.
Thralls - These are the lowest of the low, and are considered pathetic beings. They are servants to other vampires, either being docile creature who were created for this purpose or violent, unpredictable creatures who were initially Common but were driven mad by blood lust. There are rumors of sane and independent Thralls, who fight their “fate”. It is possible to escape their ultimate destruction and crumbling by drinking a pure blood’s blood, though such an act is considered a crime, unless you are granted permission. No one knows what happens to Thralls if they do drink a pure blood’s blood, though it is rumored that drinking a pure blood’s blood will save you from demise and give you unnatural new-found powers, for a time. The ultimate end for the vast majority of Thralls is deterioration and crumbling after a certain amount of time.
Strengths
Super strength and speed, superior senses.
Weaknesses
Decapitation, holy water, stakes.
Cannot enter homes without invitation.
Cannot cross flowing water without strong consequences and dizziness.
Direct sunlight burns dangerously, garlic, and crosses can usually stop them.
They cannot enter churches either.
Rely on blood for life.
*-These vampires have eternal youth, but they can age. When vampires fight, the losing vampire loses a great amount of energy, if they are not killed. This will lead to a lapse in their youth, and vampires who have struggled more will look older and more weathered. Not to be confused with vampires who were changed at an older age, which will still look strong and remarkably healthy.
Signs to Identify a Vampire
Unlike most tales of Vampires, they can reproduce, hence the existence of Pure Bloods and Nobility. There are several tell-tale ways to confirm if someone is a vampire.
Cannot be seen in mirrors
Cannot be seen in photographs
Fangs-though these are only out when a vampire is fighting or feeding, they are sheathed all other times. The exception is Thralls, who have fangs always.
Animals can sense Vampires easily, and will react in fear or anger.
Pale skin
No heartbeat, no breath
Extremely attractive, even Thralls, which is part of their luring abilities to gain prey.
When killed, older vampires (in years of life, not in appearance) will either shatter into glass-like shards or into sparkling dust. Younger vampires will die like humans; their body will remain and simply no longer be animated. This is untrue if the death is by holy water immersion, which will cause all vampires to evaporate into mist, or if they enter a church (And are a level that is deadly to do so) they will burst into flames.
Drink blood. Obviously.
Exchanging Blood
The act of Exchanging Blood is most commonly thought of as a mating ritual, though it is used in other circumstances. This is what 2 vampires, or a vampire and a human, do to intertwine their fates. To do this with a human is a way of changing someone with the intention of courting in mind, and rarely will a vampire give their blood to a human in this way if that is not the case. Siblings and other family members also do this, as a way to share power or energy. If a vampire drained their original creator, the one who changed them, they will gain all the abilities of that vampire.
