INFO » Self-explanatory.
SYMBOL » ♙
INFO » Basically glorified librarians. They keep records and legends of wolves and map their numbers and locations. Recognize wolves on sight. Are tattooed with the keeper symbol.
SYMBOL » ✾
INFO » Basically watered-down wolves. Born from a full human and wolf and other variations. Typically always betas, but there are a few exceptions. There’s a 50/50 chance they shift, but this only happens if there is reason to. They have a tendency to drift toward wolves, although they have no idea why. Typically looked down upon by wolves, hunters, and keepers for ruining the bloodline. Can only be recognized by wolves with sharp scent senses and by their bonded mate.
SYMBOL » ♘
INFO » They hunt wolves, typically a family thing. They’ve come a long way from blindly killing every wolf in sight to becoming an organized society that keeps the secret from the regular humans (although there are a few exceptions). They act as police for bloodthirsty rogues, and make sure the packs stay in line. They take in humans who discover the secret, but don’t want to becomes wolves. Generally peaceful with what they hunt, well, despite the deep-seeded, passive-aggressive hatred. Recognize wolves on sight. Are tattooed with the hunter symbol.
SYMBOL » See Pack Info Below.
INFO » They can shift between humans and wolves, but no in between. Their inner wolf is like a separate personality, but the human and wolf mind merge as one. The inner wolf is merely a more primal version of the human, that sometimes takes over during times of extreme emotion. The full moon doesn’t make them shift, but that’s generally the time every wolf in the area does and everyone keeps their dumb teenagers in. Wolves are typically born, but some humans have the gene to be turned, if not they just get the hell bit out of them. Can recognize hunters, but not keepers by scent. Are tattooed with the symbol of their pack.
☾ NORTHERN PACK » Essentially totally isolated and not very sociable. Only sends their young ones to school to avoid human interference.
☆ SOUTHERN PACK » The most sociable. Live on the edges of the city and tend to interact very well with humans.
✧ EASTERN PACK » Have a tendency for illegal activities.
☯ WESTERN PACK » Somewhere in between all this. They get along with and work with the hunters and keepers the best.
❊ ROGUES » Lone wolves. Sometimes unofficially pack together.
MATING » Wolves mate for life with other wolves and mixed breeds. Mating between full wolves and mixed breeds always causes the half-blood to shift. Mixed blood couples may or may not shift. When a bonded pair (soul mates, basically) meets, all full-blood wolves have nearly uncontrollable desire to claim their partner, this often confuses and terrifies mixed bloods. Mating is completed with a bite on the juncture between the neck and shoulder by the dominant partner and a knot (if the dominant partner is a human, the knot is not necessary). Wolf/human pairings are very possible, but the wolf may also bond with another wolf unexpectedly.
SHIFTING/TURNING » Wolves shift from the time they are born until about 3 or 4, and then they turn human until they reach puberty when they have the ability shift at will until death. Turning is completed with a bite that is meant to turn on the neck, but not all humans have the genes to turn. If not, they get bit for nothing, but can mate with a wolf. Half bloods always turn when they find their bonded, but if they do not find that person, it merely depends. If a person who can turn is bitten, then the process is painful, but quick, a few hours. If a person shifts on their own, the process is longer, about a week, and still painful. Symptoms of a shift include chills/fever, bone aches, and teeth aches.
PACK DYNAMICS » There is only one head Alpha, but there can be many alphas. They often clash for power, but all is good as long the head Alpha is respected. Alphas are always dominant. Betas are in the middle and can be either dominant or submissive. Omegas are always submissive.
**If a human finds out about wolves, they must be turned and taken under the guidance of the wolf responsible, or they may be taken in under the hunters or keepers. If a human exposes the secret, they must be killed, unless by accident in which they must be punished.
**There can be alpha/alpha, beta/beta, and omega/omega pairings, but only betas, omegas, and bitten humans can carry children.
**Packs have large homes where all the members are welcome, but many individual pack members have places to live on their own or with their families, if the family is not part of the pack.
