Does age have to do with your year (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior)? Age doesn't relate to what year you are in college - the years in college just have to do with how much college you've completed!
- if you haven't started college: you're a freshman and a pledge (first year)
- finished one year: sophomore (second year)
- finished two years: junior (third year)
- finished three years: senior (fourth year)
- finished one year: sophomore (second year)
- finished two years: junior (third year)
- finished three years: senior (fourth year)
But in American colleges, it doesn't matter how old you are bc sometimes people take off time to start college OR sometimes they start early
What are pledges? Pledges are any college students (anyone from freshman to senior year!) who decide to join a frat and have no prior history with their frat. This just means that you're new and you're going to have to join the frat via "initiation" - a ceremony or a ritual conducted by current members of the frat. PLEDGES CANNOT BE OFFICERS.
