scooting over to give aera some space, haerin's shoulders slumps in dejection. “just a few minutes ago. i've been on my hands and knees under three tables now, and i still couldn't find it.” she looks back on the floor— at her dusty skirt. “there must be a hidden portal on your floorboards, aera.”

"oh," she crouched down and leaned forward a little bit to look underneath the appliances, only to find nothing but a crumb or two that the people who closed last night failed to clean. "when did you lose it?"

“oh! aera. it's you.” haerin exhales loudly, momentarily stunned by the intrusion until she realized it was just her friend. wiping her hands on her long skirt, she mumbles, “i was looking for a pen cap. it slipped from my hand. now, i'm here.”

i swore it flew here.... somewhere. kneeling down again, haerin presses her palms on the newly scrubbed floor, muttering to herself about how she saw the cap of her pen rolling under the empty table. dad's favorite. can't lose it. he'll kill me. can't die young. no boyfriend.
