Heats happen once every two months (ruts for an alpha if you want to go that route) for creatures. Heats signal your character's increase of fertility (whether they're giving or recieving). Humans, vampires, witches and warlocks (Succubus/incubus don't either because they're ual a lot anyways) don't have to go through heat for pregnancy but further rules are in pregnancy room.)
Heats don't make your characters mindless creatures with a pure NEED to hump the heck out of someone or get humped, they are merely a natural instinct to breed. It can be a discomfort for them and of course they can be , but heats could also make them simply want to curl up and just hide away from everyone. Some might even have an increased protective/parental instinct and might just want to cuddle the heck out of their friends.
Heats last a week from the day that you post. Heats reset on the first day of every 2 month period. Characters cannot go into heat if they are pregnant, nor will they until the next heat period. (If they give birth DURING a heat period they won't have a heat until the next heat period.)
