@ᴋʀɪsᴛɪɴᴇ ғʀᴏsᴇᴛʜ ʰ jesus, jungkook couldn't forget to give his main assistant a very nice and considerate raise for everything that he'd done for him the past couple of weeks. sure... it was his job, but, he was asked to do /so/ much more than he normally was. jungkook wasn't typically a guy that likes his assistants to do literally everything for him, he enjoyed working, what he did was his passion. so being away for so long was strange, and having so many things done for him was definitely even more strange. but it needed to be done. "yeah, that'll be me." he nods, shifting his gaze down to kristine as the nurse tells him everything that he needs to know. pillows against her sides? 'i'll lay next to her too, to make sure she won't move.' he notes inwardly, reaching out to take the prescription.
"ah no, i think i've got it from here. but thank you, for everything."
as the nurse continues her conversation with kristine, jungkook reaches into the side pocket of his duffle bag to pull out his set of keys. he unlocks the door, setting the bag on the ground of the back seat before pursing his lips and looking back to the nurse. "does it matter if she sits in the front or the back?" he just wanted her feeling as comfortable as possible. "it doesn't really matter." she nods, clasping her hands in front of her. he nods, shutting the door behind him before opening the passenger door. "alrighty, c'mere," the male begins softly, setting his keys on the dashboard before turning back towards kristine. he picks her up, just as he did a few moments before hand and carefully sets her into the seat. his fingers reach for the buckle, and he's buckling her up before lowering the seat belt a bit. "careful, so that doesn't irritate your neck."
he's speaking quietly as if he just wants her to hear what he's got to say, and the corners of his lips curl upwards as he looks at her. "thank you, again." he grabs his keys and straightens up, turning to face the nurse who's already began walking away. "call us if you need anything." she returns with a light wave, to which jungkook turns around and shuts the passenger door and walks around to the drivers side so that he can slip in and start the car. "are you cold? warm?" he questions softly, reaching out to shift all of the vents towards her before instructing her on the two buttons. "this is for the temperature, and this is for the strength. fidget with them if need be, yeah? now let's go home." he nods, putting the car into reverse before beginning their journey to their destination.
@ᴊᴇᴏɴ ᴊᴜɴɢᴋᴏᴏᴋ ᵛ Before Kristine could answer to the nurse, Jungkook had stepped in to help instead. Her head snapped in his direction and she watched him with curious eyes as he carefully grabbed her hands and wrapped her arms securely around his neck and his arms securing her body against his own. At this, Kristine couldn't help but feel the tips of her hears turning hot and she could bet anyone that they were probably beet red too. Finally, she peeled her gaze away and focused on the wheelchair as he slowly lowered her into it. "Thank you." She muttered softly as she got comfortable and looked up at the nurse with a small nod. Another thing that happened was when he poked her cheeks twice with a small bunny-like smile. "Mmph." Kristine whined playfully with a quiet chuckle, swatting his hand away.
"Bye, bye."
It didn't take long for them to reach the outside where - wow - his car was rather luxurious for her taste. The sight of it made her shift in her seat while the vehicle got closer and closer, bigger and bigger. As she got closer however, she knew just what kind of vehicle it was. "A G-Wagon?" She murmured as she looked up at the male who walked right beside her. Kristine looked ahead and huffed a few strands of hair out of the way and thought to herself, 'figures'. The nurse stopped wheeling Kristine as soon as they were a foot away from the G-Wagon. With a gentle smile, she looked over at Kristine to make sure she was okay and then at Jungkook.
"I assume you're going to be the one that takes care of her? I suggest that she limits any movement. Her bandages need to be changed out twice daily and when she sleeps, make sure she has pillow against her sides to prevent her from rolling over. If you have any concerns or questions, feel free to contact us. Here's the prescription for anti-biotics and anti-scarring cream. Do you need any help in helping her into the vehicle at all?" The nurse explained and questions him with a small tilt of her head before leaning down to look at Kristine. "Call us if anything happens okay?"
@ᴋʀɪsᴛɪɴᴇ ғʀᴏsᴇᴛʜ ʰ it had been the longest two weeks of jungkook's life, or so it felt. he knew that when he'd be back in work, that would be the longest week or so. ...yeah, he didn't even want to think about the amount of work that he had to catch up on, but that's what assistants are for, and he'd have to schedule for one of them to work at the house with him, because he definitely wasn't leaving kristine /alone/ alone until she's fully recovered, or so. it was also interesting, considering that he'd really seen what her life was like with her family, and honestly? there were times where he wanted to smack some sense into them as they tried to push the position of this.. company onto her, it didn't even seem like they cared about her getting better before anything else. huh. what a family they were to her. business over health? over love? yeah, that's not how things worked around jungkook, at least. but everything is different, he supposes.
he can't help but release a softened chuckle upon hearing kristine's words, and he looks over his shoulder to the said chair before shaking his head and returning his gaze to his bag whilst stuffing his clothes into it -- neatly. "i mean, i'll probably sleep on the floor next to you for a while, the chair wasn't too bad... just not the best." he shrugs one of his shoulders upwards before turning to face her. he makes his way towards the bed, reaching forward to take the clothes from kristine's lap. "i saved you some room in my bag." he murmurs softly, returning to his bag shortly after so that he could set her clothes into it before zipping it up.
jungkook's head turns to the attention of the nurse as he slips his phone into the front pocket of his jeans, looking over to the female for a moment before waving the nurse off with a smile of his own. "i can help her," he nods, stepping towards the side of the bed once more. reaching out, his hand finds hers and he leans forward so that he could wrap her arm around his neck. his other arm incircles around her waist, and his free hand curls beneath her knees so that he could lift her up. the next second, he's setting her down in the wheelchair carefully, and the corners of his lips curl upwards as he straightens up. "there we go, are -- is everything all finished? are we good to go?" the nurse nods. "it's procedure to wheel her out, so i've got that. we can get going if you're ready?" the male immediately nods, reaching out for his bag to toss it around his shoulder before poking one of kristine's cheeks twice with a small smile.
@ᴊᴇᴏɴ ᴊᴜɴɢᴋᴏᴏᴋ ᵛ When he reciprocated the same vibe as she, Kristine couldn't help but give a quirky smile. "I guess we both have something in common. It's not easy or comfortable for me to simply get along with someone so easily." she explained as she gave a gentle shrug. As Jungkook came closer to her bedside, she looked up at him and raised a brow, noticing his smile and the way his eyes nearly crinkle at the action. He was so close yet so far that she naturally scooted her head back a little to get a better look of the male who stood beside her. "No. I guess your not." She muttered with a cheeky grin before she nodded her head. "I wouldn't have been alive if it wasn't for you, Jungkook, so, thank you. So much." She emphasized once more before tugging the blankets closer to her beneath her chin. It was something that she was grateful for, and although they had just met, Kristine had fallen comfortable around someone who deemed her as evil. She understood his ideology, and his reasoning behind his scoldings. If anything, she'd say the same thing to herself as well. Kristine was just thankful that he managed to turn around and save her from death.
It was like that for a while. The entire week had just been Jungkook and herself in a room together alone. He'd fall asleep beside her in the chair and often times, she'd worry about how he would feel the next day. Jungkook needed to sleep on a bed, or some kind of flat service. She felt bad, but again, she felt thankful that he stayed beside her all through out. Kristine's parents often visited too, mostly to persuade Kristine to take that position in the family business, but she refused over and over again. It was embarrassing to have Jungkook witness her family's chaotic behavior, but he was the one who made her feel better through all of it. Even when he had to stand in as her boyfriend, things were easier when he was around.
A week became two weeks and by the end of it all, the wounds were beginning to heal perfectly. Because Kristine had been bed-ridden for two weeks, it was suggested that she'd be escorted out on a wheelchair and that she would need at least a few days to get her muscles and limbs start moving again. It was the afternoon, and Kristine was sitting up in bed, folding the clothing her parent's had brought for her last week upon her lap. The nurses had down their rounds of checking up on her wounds and telling her what had to be done in order to recover fully and quickly. Two weeks felt like two months, but at least it was kind of fun. You wouldn't hear the word 'fun' in a hospital, but jungkook made it so.
Looking over for a moment, she watched as Jungkook packed his things as well and smiled softly before looking down at her lap where her stuff laid upon. "I can't wait to get out off this place, and I also can't wait til' you actually fall asleep in a bed. That chair must've been the death of you." She said softly as she looked over to watch the nurse bring the wheelchair in. "Do you need any assistance in helping you into the wheelchair, Ms. Froseth?"
the male repeats beneath his breath just after kristine says it, his own gaze shifting back up to look at the stars that he'd put upon the ceiling, a hint of a smile nudging upon his tiers. his hands are cupping each elbow, arms crossed against his chest. it reminds himself of home, of when he was young and when he'd lay upon the field of his palace and stare up at the stars. he'd talk with the nanny about his dreams, about what he wanted to do with life. but that's exactly what it was, that's what it only was -- a dream. a dream that would one day, be long forgotten as he'd grown older and older. surely, with his life as the heir, he wouldn't be able to live that dream. and things... they changed, after he was changed. a heavy sigh slips through his lips at the thought, but he brushes it off instead of spending much time upon the thought.
"am i?" jungkook questions, his eyebrow raised upward in slight shock. it was hard to believe that he'd be the first person that she's comfortable with. what about the officer? weren't they good friends? the thought of her not reciprocating the same feelings that the officer had for her earned somewhat of a triumphant grin, one of his hands raising to scratch at his cheek. okay, he couldn't look /too/ excited, and all of his actions were quick enough for her not to notice. "i suppose i could say the same, i mean.. i have a group, that i normally hang around with and.. they're my co-workers. but you're the first person outside of the company that i enjoy being around."
jungkook leans forward, his arms crossing over the bar on the side of the hospital bed and he leans his head down, his cheek resting upon his arms as he looks at kristine with a small smile. "i'd be quite disheartening if i didn't stay with you, no? if i just dropped you off.... good thing that i'm not a cold person." he toots his own horn playfully, a playful simper apparent on his tiers as he nods once. "you don't have to thank me, but you're welcome, kristine."
@ᴊᴇᴏɴ ᴊᴜɴɢᴋᴏᴏᴋ ᵛ "A little piece of home?" She murmured as she finally shifted to lay on her back, staring up at the ceiling and the stars that were glowing so brightly and prettily. It did remind her of home, and the fact that Jungkook took the time to even think of something like this made her feel a certain type of way that she was confused with. Looking over at the male, she nodded softly and shared a smile that was a bigger than the previous one she had been giving. "I did. I haven't had that good of a sleep in about a month or so." She replied before glancing back up at the stars and then over at him.
"You know, you're the first person that I've gotten to be comfortable around with. I'm not really a people person, in fact, I hate people." there was a small laugh that followed. "Just kidding. It's not that I hate people, I was raised to talk to certain people and when to talk to them. I was never taught on how to simply "make friends" which is probably why I don't have much besides you and Officer lee." She explained before shrugging her shoulders. It was true. Being around Jungkook for this long at a time was new territory for her. She's been taking it well so far, and only wonder's what the future holds for them both.
The thought of Officer Lee came to mind a shiver run's down her spine before mumbling out to the other. "I think you're a blessing for staying beside me, really." There was also something else she's wanted to say, but for some reason, she couldn't find the confidence to do so. To her it was embarrassing and humiliating; the fact that he had to come and save her even though he had scolded her about burying innocents a day before it all happened. It was awkward, but she had to say it nonetheless.
@ᴋʀɪsᴛɪɴᴇ ғʀᴏsᴇᴛʜ ʰ seeing the nurses turn to him, jungkook offered them a nod in return when he was instructed to also call for them if needed, but his head turned to look back at kristine as they exited. as the door clicked shut, a cheeky grin appeared upon the male's lips and his nose crinkled as he released a laugh whilst clapping his hands together. "that's what you get for scaring the out of me! you can try and fool me, kristine, you can try." his arms cross against his chest, sleeves folded up to his elbows as he takes a few steps closer to the edge of the bed. "i'm sorry. you were sleeping so well, so i didn't want to disturb you in any way, and i needed to do something to pass some time. i'll be more cautious next time." his gaze follows hers as she looks towards the machine, watching the wavelengths of her heart beat -- it was strangely relaxing to watch, and to hear the quiet 'beep' that came with each beat.
'thank you' huh? 'for the stars'. oh.
his head tilts upward, one hand raising so that he could rub at the nape of his neck. "yeah, no problem. i figured.. you'd want a little piece of home here, somehow. this is what came to mind. i hope it comforts you a little bit more." jungkook is looking at the stars, teeth sinking into his lower lip before he shifts to take a seat again. "did you have a good sleep?"
@ᴊᴇᴏɴ ᴊᴜɴɢᴋᴏᴏᴋ ᵛ Kristine watched as the younger shot up onto his feet from her little 'show'. She could hear the slight panic his breathing and right when she was about to speak, a group of nurses busted into the room. ᴏʜ ɢᴏᴅ. "What's going on?" one of the nurses spoke up rather concerned look, and looked over at jungkook who seemed to lean over Kristine with his arms wrapped around her. Kristine would've sworn that she was turning red and flush, hot to the touch at his action. Wow, he was so close to her, and she could no longer smell the blood that was lingering all over his body from earlier, in fact he smelled - ᴇxᴘᴇɴsɪᴠᴇ. Jungkook was so close, she could almost feel her heart rate jump to a thousand beats per minute, and the nurses took this as a concerning sign. ᴄʀᴀᴘ.
"Alright, please step back." and so, Jungkook did and when Kristine managed to look over at the male, she could see his dark smirk growing upon his features. ᴛʜᴀᴛ ʟɪᴛᴛʟᴇ sʜɪᴛ. Was she that obvious from her playful skit? How did the nurses even hear from that far? "How are you feeling, Kristine? Do you need something to relieve your pain?" One of the nurses asked, looking over Kristine and observing her features. The young girl shook her head and took a deep breath, and another, and another until she gave a gentle, small smile. "N-no. I'm fine, I think I just turned too fast and nearly busted one of the stitches open. I'm okay." The nurses looked at each other once before looking down at Kristine with relieved expressions. "Alright. Please ring us up if you need anything or if this happens again. Don't move around so much. The stitches haven't fully healed yet. Okay?" Kristine nodded gently and the nurses flashed a small smile before looking over at Jungkook with a nod, all disappearing beyond the door one by one. When she finally heard that door click close, Kristine looked over at Jungkook and gave a kittenish growl.
"You dumb ."
The words came off as a small grumble before she shook her head. "I was trying to get your attention, but you were over there playing with your damn video games. God. What if something really did happen and you weren't there to help me out. You only noticed me like 10 minutes later when I had to fake my pain. You little rat." Kristine scolded hum and carefully crossed her arms and looked away. Her lips were puckered in a slight pout, her eyes narrowing at the machine next to her as she slowly breathed in and out. After a moment or two, Kristine finally relaxed and eased up. "Thank you." She mumbled under her breath and shifted a bit so her head was comfortable by looking away from him. "For the stars."
@ᴋʀɪsᴛɪɴᴇ ғʀᴏsᴇᴛʜ ʰ his eyebrows were furrowed as he stare down at his phone, his jaw clenching together as his fingers tighten mindlessly around the device. "you ." the male seethes through his teeth, a light brown gaze narrowing as he attempted to pass the level of the game he'd downloaded as kristine peacefully slept for the next few hours. he was also banging to some bops -- quietly though. he wasn't necessarily a fan of the games on these hand held devices (he'd much rather go to a good arcade) but, it got a bit boring staring up at the 'stars' and he needed to pass some time. of course, he could be worrying about work, or doing something that actually needed to be done.... but screw it, he'd focus on it later when he actually was able to get proper sleep on his comfortable bed. not like he wasn't getting proper sleep now, the male could honestly sleep standing up. but he was awoken rather rudely this morning, and it's already been a whirlwind of a day.
oh c'mon, he totally could've passed that level.
he's murmuring silent curses through his lips as he stares at the phone, completely captivated by the game itself that he doesn't hear a single thing. he definitely couldn't hear her trying to get his attention by saying his name, but that was because of the music. even without the music, he was unsure if he would've heard her. because as she moves her hand to grab the water bottle that he'd previously set there - mind you, that was right in front of his face - he didn't even notice it. it'd be rude of him to not greet her from her nap if he knew that she was awake, and jungkook was a polite man. okay, he was getting sick of this game. he needed to delete it before he threw his phone across the room and shattered it to pieces. with a tilt of his head, he exits the game and removes it from his phone and -- good god, who is --
thank god the songs were switching and he could hear the blood curling yelp that'd come from beside him. his dead heart sinks, and he's immediately onto his feet and tossing his phone to the ground anyway. but there's one thing that gives her little show away - the light curl apparent on her lips. "kristine, what are yo -" the doors slam open, and junkook had never sat his down so fast in his entire life. he on the other hand, had his own plan up his sleeve. the male had leaned over the side of the bed, his arms wrapped around her body with a frantic look on his face. "what's going on?" the nurses circle her bed, and he's shaking his head with a shaky breath. "i don't know, she just -- she just started yelling and groaning in pain, i don't know what's happening." the nurse urges him to step aside, which he does with a growing smirk as she asks kristine what she was feeling.
he crosses his arms with a look of pride, and watches it go down with an amused expression.
@ᴊᴇᴏɴ ᴊᴜɴɢᴋᴏᴏᴋ ᵛ Kristine didn't know how long she had been asleep for, she was just in for taking a nap. However, when she began to shift around and slowly make her way back to consciousness, it felt like she had been asleep for hours. That, and she could tell she was drooling by the dry patches near the corner of her lips. How embarrassing. It took a while to get her vision fully restored and her body a bit looser by stretching; while she did so, she happened to be looking up at the ceiling which was...odd. It was completely dark in the room, but what she saw above her was the night sky. The stars looked so bright and pretty, maybe she was still dreaming right? No. The whole situation confused Kristine, but she was so captivated by these "stars" that were above her. Finally, when her vision was finally back to restoration, she furrowed her brows and noticed how the stars looked rather cartoonish and sticker-like. Ah.
Then, she remembered Jungkook's conversation on the phone from earlier. Something about stickers, was this it?
The thought made her feel all warm and giddy. She tucked the blanket closer to her body and beneath her chin as she began to count each one, and mentally name every single star. Most were big, some were small and there were some other's that were medium sized. It felt like she was back at home, in her cabin, in the woods. Although the thought of the woods slightly triggered her, the stars were comforting, because it was something she found solace and peace in. Jungkook did all of this? All of this for her? Kristine couldn't help but slowly shift her eyes to look over at the male who was playing on his phone. She couldn't tell if he could see her or not, but she in her bottom lip and felt her eyes water at the kind gesture he did for her. No one had done anything like this before and it made her feel special and at home. She felt comfortable and safe, just like he promised; just like he said he would.
Kristine took a deep breath and slowly scooted closer towards the edge of the bed and tried to mumble out his name but was dry. Gosh, had she been sleeping with wide open or something? Embarrassing. As she looked around for something to drink, her eyes landed on the bottle of water with the straw in it beside her on a small table. The corner of her lips quirked upwards as she flickered her gaze over at the male then back at the bottle where she picked it up and began to take small, quick sips. Refreshing. After she felt like was lubricated nicely, she placed the bottle back on the small table and leaned forward to the edge once more and tried to get his attention, hoping he didn't have any ear phones in, otherwise she would have to get creative. "Psst. Jungkook." She whispered but noticed he didn't budge any.
Her face went somewhat slack and blank before she leaned back and stilled in thought for a moment. The corner of her lips went up in a small smirk before she suddenly curled up and crossed her arms over her stomach and yelped as loud as she could (or at least, for Jungkook to hear) and groaned out in feigned pain.
@ᴋʀɪsᴛɪɴᴇ ғʀᴏsᴇᴛʜ ʰ "i'm ba -" it began in a sing-song voice, but the male comes to a quick halt when he see's kristine fast asleep on her bed. she needed to rest anyway. he begins to step forward again, and unlike her parents, he's on his tip toes. jungkook even goes as far as holding his breath to not disturb the silence of the room. he accompanies the door until it's fully shut, not allowing it to slam or even click closed. okay, all good. he makes his way towards the little night stand near her bed, gently setting down the water bottle and his coffee. his arms raise his duffle bag and set it upon the chair that he'd spent the previous night on. reaching out for the water bottle that he'd gotten for her, he unlatches the top so that he can stick the straw into it, then he places it back on the table (which he moves closer towards the middle of the bed, so kristine could reach it without needing to move too much.)
alright, next -- stickers. he turns to face his bag, soon beginning to dig through it to find the stickers that he'd requested.. where were they? oh, come o - there they were. aha! he straightens up with a widened grin on his face, his fingertips gliding over the glow in the dark star stickers. she came from the woods, that was her home.. if she was going to be here for two weeks, he might as well make it feel at least a bit like home. and he was a dork, which resulted in him owning the stickers in the first place. but they can't be found on his ceiling, but they were secretly spread throughout his home. he'd never tell you where though. he just had to figure out how he'd get them up there. jungkook's gaze shifts towards his chair, then back to the ceiling. it took about half an hour, which felt much much longer because he had to be completely silent. but with his chair and the broom from the cleaning closet, he was able to get them spread upon the ceiling above her bed.
and now, finally, he could shower.
the male quietly takes a few steps to the light switch, switching it off. he then walks to the window, closing the blinds so that it could be a little bit darker for her to sleep better. he then grabs his bag and heads into the bathroom and carefully shuts the door behind him so that he can turn on the shower, his hand hanging beneath the stream of water as he awaits for it to heat up. he steps back and removes his clothes, layer for layer and tosses them into his little... dirty laundry bag, which he sets by the door for now. finally, he could get all of this blood off of him. there's a quiet groan of content as he steps under the warm stream and washes up. he finishes up quickly after that, and brushes his teeth before pulling on another hoodie (this one a nice red) and sweat pants once more. then he remembers his coffee, which is probably cold by now, and he hurries out of the bathroom -- setting his bag to the side.
jungkook returns to his seat, leaning over to plug his phone in. but he begins to sip from his coffee, gaze observing the female as she sleeps. he'd felt like he knew her for years, it was.. well, strange. she didn't seem to have a problem opening up to him either, maybe.. maybe it was a mutual kind of thing? it was a sensation he'd never experienced before. and even though he didn't quite know what it was, he knew one thing. that he felt it was his duty to protect her, and he was going to do so.
@ᴊᴇᴏɴ ᴊᴜɴɢᴋᴏᴏᴋ ᵛ The air got a bit awkward, but it wasn't until when Jungkook started to speak again about her staying at his place for a while. "I think it would be good for me, considering I can't rent out an apartment or house in a short amount of time. Especially if I need to sign paperwork and all that jazz, I'd rather just stay with you. I mean at your house with you. I mean, me staying at your house that you own and such. Yeah." Wow, that was slightly embarrassing and she was blushing like crazy. Thankfully, the blankets were mushed all around and over her face, it was hard to tell what was going on beneath the sheets. Letting out a soft sigh and a hum, Kristine looked at the ceiling before looking over at him with slightly pouted lips. "I think the nurse said I could go home in two weeks. One and half if I'm strong enough to move around and walk easier. I'm hoping for the latter." She muttered before shuffling her blankets closer to her body.
"Tsk, so you're just gonna leave me anyways? I see. I get it." She joked and prodded with a soft snort before nodding her head. "Please come back soon. It get's lonely in this cold, creepy room." She flashed a friendly smile and watched the male walk out of the hospital room with the door closing behind him. Kristine deflated a bit in her bed and wondered how she even got in all of his predicament in the first place. If she had taken up that damn position of just being a CEO, all this probably would've never have happened. Another thought crossed her mind however which made her feel small and her heart weak like earlier. What if she hadn't met Jungkook? Would they both be living separate lives of their own? Or would they somehow bump into each other. The thought scared her, surprised her almost. Jungkook was just a man travelling through her wooded territory, he's a vampire who happened to save a human girl's life and save Kristine's as well. He didn't have to save her, he didn't, he really didn't, but he did. It was something she wanted to know why, and for what. Even though they had just met, things between them feel so natural and calming. Having Jungkook around Kristine made her feel safe and comforted. Sure, she had some guy friends that she felt "comfortable" being around with, but Jungkook was strangely different. It was like he had this affect on her of Kristine being captivated by the male all the time.
Maybe she's just thinking about it too much and it really isn't that deep, but it doesn't hurt to think about it, right?
The amount of thinking, confusion and more brought Kristine to exhaustion. Instead of waiting for Jungkook, she decided to take a small nap in the meantime until he came back. With a small little yawn and a gentle stretch of her arms and legs, she slowly shifted to rest on her back and tilted her head away from the door. Kristine's eyes fluttered closed and her breathing came to a slow gentle lull with each exhale that pushed through her plump lips. Kristine knew Jungkook would be back, and with this kind of thought, she was comforted to say the least.
@ᴋʀɪsᴛɪɴᴇ ғʀᴏsᴇᴛʜ ʰ "and i'm a better actor than you think." he returns with a playful simper, fingertips tapping against his jaw before he breathes out a soft chuckle. it was true, the man had been around for more than a thousand years, and he'd learned to lie like it was the easiest thing on the planet, it was a breeze. luckily, he's a good guy and he doesn't do it often. unless he really, really needs to. it wasn't a bad idea, and jungkook knew that it would look bad to be bringing a girl home with the crowd constantly outside of his building. then again, he could just say that it was a cousin of his -- but then, what if her parents saw? lying really does end up biting you in the , huh? well.. they didn't have to worry about it now.. well, maybe they should. okay, he'd bring it up later, that's the plan. good plan, jungkook, he internally gives himself a pat on the back, and his head tilts to the side for a moment.
he surely wasn't expecting what was coming next, especially the whole run down of her family, and the companies and the -- wow, they really had a lot more in common than he thought they did. except.. his company came from his hands, his innovations, not his parents'. for a second, he's tempted to say, 'yeah, my relationship with my parents were pretty questionable,' but then he remembered how bad it was, especially looking back on it now, and well.. he wasn't ready to open up that door yet. especially when no one else knew about it. so instead, he says "that ." which is completely different than what he'd originally had planned. his fingertips are tapping together, and he feels a bit.. awkward. jungkook wasn't necessarily the best in these situations. he could comfort someone if they were hurt physically, but talking? yeah, definitely was not his expertise. he never knew the right things to say, because he knew (especially him) that emotional pain is a different level than physical pain. it messes you up a bit more, throws you off and it's hard to walk in a steady line. so when kristine speaks up (thank god) and waves it away, the male just nods with a bit of a sympathetic smile before clasping his hands together. "well, then i'm glad."
"you definitely do, it'd make me feel a lot better because... well, i can offer you that kind of protection, y'know. but yeah, definitely. if that's what you'd like to do, my doors are open for you." he knew that she was in a tough position: she couldn't go home, and god knows she didn't want to stay with her family, especially after what she'd just told him. there's no way he'd put her through any of that. "yeah? well good, i'll have it all set up for you. did the nurse mention when you'd be released?" he questioned, reaching into his pocket for his phone. then he's rudely reminded that it's dead. . so much for calling for someone to bring him some clothes. "unfortunately, my ph -" his gaze falls on the phone on one of the counters near the windows of the room, and thank god. he pushes himself up and begins walking towards it, where he soon dials the number of his assistant and presses the phone to his ear. "hey noah, it's me. yeah, my phone is dead but i need you to do me a favor. i'm staying at the hospital for a few nights, can you pack me a bag? some comfortable clothes, washing necessities, y'know. oh, my phone charger too, please. yep, okay. see you in ten. oh-- bring the stickers. you're the best, thank you."
jungkook sets the phone down, and he's gently itching at his temple with a small yawn. "i should be able to use the shower, right?" he looks in the direction of the bathroom, then back down to his hands. he needs to shower, and he needs to shower asap. "i'll be right back, okay? i'm just going to meet my friend at the front to get my things. i'm gonna grab some coffee too, no one'll bother you, okay?" his fingertip is gently tapping against her wrist with a small smile present, before he heads out of the room and shuts the door behind him. first stop: the cafeteria. he needed a coffee, maybe two. jungkook decides on a large, and he also gets a bottle of water for kristine with a long straw, maybe this would be easier for her to drink it. next stop: the waiting room. the moment he steps in, he's immediately rolling his eyes and the freaking officer, what's his name again? is standing up. "i'm gonna g-" "don't bother." jungkook stops him. "excuse me, sir, but it's my duty as her fr-" he stops him again, holding both drinks in one hand so that he can extend his arm to pat the others' shoulder. "listen, mate. i don't think now is a good idea for all of the questions. if you're really her friend, give her some time to focus on recovering. mentally too." "mr jeon." he looks to the right to see his assistant, and he's taking his duffle bag and placing it around his shoulder, soon waving him goodbye with a grin before looking back to the officer. "take a step back, yeah man? that's my girl in there."
ah yes, the look of defeat.
"have a good rest of your day. go get some proper sleep. i'll call you when she's ready." well, at least he'd leave them alone now. with a nod of his head, and a whistle of a small tune, jungkook is headed back to kristine's room, and soon right back in there.
@ᴊᴇᴏɴ ᴊᴜɴɢᴋᴏᴏᴋ ᵛ "Alice is a lot smarter than you may think. She know's me better than my parents and my closest friends. The thought of me suddenly dating someone is out of the ordinary. If anything, she know's we're not dating. Alice is just that smart. It's kind of scary when you think about it." It was true. Alice was Kristine's other half, and Alice knew everything about her and Kristine the same. Kristine wasn't the type to be interested in a man or a woman, let alone date someone. Alice knew that Kristine would always put her work first. She understood why Jungkook would think that way; there were a lot of other things that he didn't know about her family. "My parents and I are--we don't actually have a very good relationship." Shifting a little more, Kristine looked over at him and in her bottom lip to think for a moment. "I was the eldest, Alice is the youngest. My parents own multiple companies and usually, you're suppose to pass on your company to the next generation of your bloodline. I was supposed to be the next heiress of my parent's company, but I -- I refused to take that position. It wasn't something I could see myself doing. I didn't want to sit behind a desk or order people around. The rich life is satisfying, but I prefer to get my hands dirty and do everything myself." Kristine's fingers began to tap against the rail of the bed gently before heaving a long sigh.
"So, when I was in university, I was majoring in business management and ended up changing my major to zoology. They didn't know until the moment I walked on stage to graduate. They were utterly disappointed, and just downright angry. We fought that same night I graduated, and at the end of it all, my father threatened to disown me. I didn't care for it. I knew he didn't have the heart to anyway. Instead, he transferred all earnings, all rights to my younger sister who is now the face of my family's companies." Kristine looked over at the male and gave a small smile before shrugging her shoulders. The thought of it all had made her heart heavy and weak. "Alice was angry at first. Angry at me for not taking up the position, but, i think after a while, she had grown to love it. She's a lot more mature than she used to be, and extremely intelligent. A perfect candidate. I just can't help but feel guilty for having that pressure on her for becoming a CEO to numerous companies. There are times we'd fight and there are moments where she would thank me. Of course, my parents favored her over me, i was a disappointment in their eyes, but at least they try to work with me. So, even though we look like we get along, we really don't." There was a small silence that fell over them, and Kristine couldn't help but blush deeply. A soft cough escaped her lips as she gave a small, shy chuckle and waved her hand about. "It ain't that deep, though. It's not as bad as it was back then. I'd like to think we got a bit better over time."
Kristine looked over at the male and raised a brow as he suggested such an idea to her. She couldn't tell if he was being serious, hesitant or he was just pitying her, but the more she thought about it, the more of a good idea it became. Kristine knew she couldn't go back, she didn't know how dangerous it would be even if those two vampires were dead. What if more came by? What if they were looking for her? She didn't have any other place to go, she didn't have much money except for the small earnings she got for working as a park ranger, maybe it wasn't such a bad idea after all. "Y-you think I could? It doesn't sound like a bad idea. I think at this point, I need some place to stay were I'm protected. Actually, the more I think about it, the more I feel like it's a dangerous thing to do by going back into the woods." The last part of her sentence was more of a thought to herself, but as she looked over at Jungkook, she nodded rather confidently and gratefully. "If you don't mind at least. I think...I think that would be a nice idea."
Kristine's lips pursed at the thought of the other's coming into her room and bombarding her with questions, especially officer lee. It made her muscle tense and a wince-like expression plastered against her face. Quickly, she shook her head and tugged the blanket close to her. "N-no. Please stay. I don't think i'll be okay. Can't you like, send someone to get some clothes for you or something? I don't know." Kristine mumbled as she chewed her inner cheek gently.
@ᴋʀɪsᴛɪɴᴇ ғʀᴏsᴇᴛʜ ʰ "careful --" jungkook is immediately on his feet once more when he see's kristine shifting. his arms are in front of him, as if he's going to reach out and lay them on her shoulder - but luckily, he catches himself and extends his arms upwards to stretch instead. "just, be careful when you move. if you need some help, you can ask." he nods, returning to the seat whilst biting down on his lower lip. "are you guys not close? it seems like you are." jungkook's gaze shifts towards the door, which he blinks towards momentarily, before looking back to the girl in the hospital bed. "you don't have to answer that, it's not my business." he waves the question off, one of his hands raising to nudge his hair away from his forehead. it's her laugh that captures his attention once more, and his brow raises as his fingers fidget with the strings of his hoodie.
"she'll continue to show interest in a guy even if he's dating her sister? wow, that doesn't quite follow the.. ah, what is it called? sister code? sis-code? whatever it is, pfft. she's not my type anyway." he leans back in the chair, crossing his arms with a crooked grin and a quiet murmur of 'i think we could,' his head cocking to the side. he's found staring at the ceiling as well, lips pursed as the tips of his fingers tap against his bicep. "i'm not real good with confrontation, y'know. i'm not good at that stuff, rejection and all. makes me feel bad. i am pretty weak, how observant, miss froseth." it's a bit of playful banter, but it was because the thought of having to reject someone quite... randomly made him uncomfortable, and banter was the only way out of the feeling of complete discomfort.
his lips press together and one of his hands raise so that he can gently scratch his teeth, all before releasing a quiet sigh. "unfortunately, i think it would be a bad idea for you to go back there. i know that it's your home, and it's your life out there but... you've got to be extra careful, especially now. those.. guys that attacked you, they've been taken care of. but, i can't promise that it won't happen again, you don't know who's linked to them around there." and a crazy idea pops into his head. "here's a thought, and call me crazy, but why don't you stay with me for a while? it's a bit downtown in the city, you could have your own room -- there are guards outside and all within the building. you'd be insanely safe there. i think that's what you need, especially while you recover. and i could, you know, help you out with.. things, if you'd need it." his hand is now fidgeting with the messy locks beneath his hood, and one of his shoulders raise as he looks back to her. "just an idea, you know, to think about. but you don't have to think about it right now, i'm not sure when you'll be released so.. let's focus on that when the time comes, yeah?"
ptsd was a frightening thing. and even though kristine would want to go back home, of course, ptsd doesn't normally hit until you revisit that memory for the first time. it's a bit of a harsh reality, and well -- he felt protective. he wanted to protect her.
"you think you'll be okay without me?" jungkook teases with a crooked grin, his cheek resting in his palm as his elbow perches upon the arm rest of the chair. "your friend out there might wanna come and say hey. i won't be there to help you avoid him."
@ᴊᴇᴏɴ ᴊᴜɴɢᴋᴏᴏᴋ ᵛ As soon as her parents left, Kristine let out a relieved sigh and had let go of Jungkook. She watched the male plop down in the seat beside her bed, perhaps feeling the same way she was. "Don't be. Anything to get them off my back, really." she murmured as she shifted a bit and carefully to get herself into a comfortable position. Hearing his voice pipe up a bit, she looked over with a slight raised brow and watched him before pursing her lips to keep in her laughter. So, her sister was the one that was trying to hit on him. Not surprising.
"I'm sorry, but that's hilarious. You did all that because you didn't want to get all wrapped up with her? That's so funny." Her words were strained mainly because she was trying to keep her laughter in, no matter how painful it was to do so. "You're so weak, Jungkook. If you don't say anything now to her, she'll continue show interest in you, and frankly, I don't know if we can keep up with this dating facade of ours." It was an honest and genuine suggestion. Her sister wouldn't move on unless Jungkook told her that he wasn't interested in her. Alice was pretty good at taking rejection, too good perhaps. She went through boyfriends like she went through t-shirts. This shouldn't be any different, right?
Kristine laid her head down on the pillow and looked up at the ceiling and thought for a moment. A soft hum seeped past through her lips before she spoke softly, "Do you think it'll be dangerous to go back to the cabin when I'm released? I really, really don't want to deal with my family." Looking over, her eyes gazed over the male's features and down to his hands were his skin was imprinted with interesting tattoos peeking out from his hoodie. "Also -- you should probably get home and get some actual sleep on an actual bed, and maybe wash up too. You still smell like blood."
@ᴋʀɪsᴛɪɴᴇ ғʀᴏsᴇᴛʜ ʰ there's a quiet 'oof' as he's tugged into kristine's mothers' embrace, his hands very lightly patting her back whilst he breathes out a shaky laugh. god, why were her hugs so tight? she could do some damage with that strength. then it hits him: what had he gotten himself into? her father was already intimidating enough, especially as he eyed him from the side as jungkook stood with his hands crossed in front of him. the male is chewing on his lower lip, eyes steady on the ground as her mother continues to talk. "how did you guys meet?" a deeper voice questions him, and he's looking towards her father, blinking rapidly. "uh," quick, think of something. "a work meeting. my company collaborated with the park for a -- a work party."
he could still feel her sisters' eyes on him, and in a way, he felt a /little/ bad. but not too bad. she was way too young for him. well, anyone was, but -- well, you know what he means.
"baby. can you hold me again like last night? i can't get comfortable."
jungkook's brows shoot up as he looks towards the female in the hospital bed, and he blinks for a moment before the corners of his tiers quirk upwards. "of course." he nods and begins to make his way towards her with a growing simper. he keeps up the act until he hears the door close, before he plops down on the seat with a heavy sigh. "sorry?" he murmured with a bit of a cheeky simper to kristine's direction. one of his hand raises to remove his hoodie, his other hand ruffling his hair so that it didn't look /that/ bad. "uh," he's scratching the nape of his neck, blinking for a moment as he looks at the side of the bed closest to him. "that's the girl that i was telling you about -- that was eyeing me. so i kind of,, had to,, y'know."
@ᴊᴇᴏɴ ᴊᴜɴɢᴋᴏᴏᴋ ᵛ Before Kristine could comprehend what was going on, she heard Jungkook's voice and immediately her eyes widened into large saucers. Her expression was more of a "what the " instead of a "what are you doing?" Kristine looked over at her parents who gladly shook his hand, her mother more energetic than her father's handshake and eventually pulled him in for a tight hug. "Oh! I dreamed of this day." She murmured against his shoulder and Kristine's eyes rolled before speaking softly. "Stop being dramatic. Anyways, what are you doing here?" Her mother seemed to roll her eyes playfully, patting Jungkook's chest lightly before walking over to Kristine's side, holding a bag up to show her what she had.
"I brought some clothes for you to wear. I had to guess your size, I wasn't going to go into those woods. I'm not crazy like you, sweet heart." her mother said rather sympathetically before Kristine let out a soft snort, trying to sit herself up as comfortably as she could. There were moments when Kristine wanted to be a smart and lay it out right then and there but she knew that if she did, her father would have none of it. He was the most dominant in the family (regardless of gender). He was scary when he got mad and Kristine didn't want to deal with all of that at this moment. Kristine looked over at her younger sister though and smiled but noticed her younger sisters face seemed to darken when her eyes laid on her. Kristine didn't think anything of it. She probably woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.
Kristine's mother kept chatting and chatting about how Kristine should live back at the house and how she finally has a "boyfriend" and at this, Kristine looked over at Jungkook and threw somewhat of a glare. Her mother took this as some cute lover's quarrel. Gross. How many drama's as she watched? Her talking was slowly giving Kristine a headache and she had to think of something quick to get rid of her small little family. Looking around the room, her eyes landed on Jungkook and a light bulb lit up within her head. A rather dark smirk graced her features faintly before she let out a soft, painful groan and looked over at jungkook with a semi-loving, semi-affectionate, semi-needy look. "Baby. Can you hold me again like last night? I can't get comfortable."
"Ah, mah gawd." her mother squealed as she quickly dropped the bag off next to the table and quickly scurried over to her father and younger sister, Alice. "C'mon, you guys. Let's give these two some privacy! How about we go celebrate Kristine's relationship at the steak house? Huh? Wouldn't that sound amazing?!" She could hear her mother's voice trail off as shed ragged the two by their arms. Alice seemed to drag behind and gazed at the two "love birds" with a small scowl.
"It always goes Kristine's way." She muttered before disappearing beyond the door.
@ᴋʀɪsᴛɪɴᴇ ғʀᴏsᴇᴛʜ ʰ if there's one thing that jungkook hated the most, other than himself, it was going to bed late. he was an early sleeper, and if he were going to be on this earth for eternity, might as well take care of himself while he's at it, right? it was a habit that he picked up a few hundred years ago, or so. and when he sleeps, he /sleeps/. it takes a good 10 minutes or so to wake him up, if he's not waking up on his own time. his body has adjusted to getting at least seven hours of sleep, and he won't wake up until he gets those seven hours in. and boy oh boy, was he sleeping well tonight. thanks to his hard sleeping, he doesn't really move much in his sleep. he could sleep in the same position all night, which he was doing right at this moment. he hadn't moved an inch since he'd fallen asleep, and morning has come.
with all of this being said, the cup to his head did absolutely nothing when it came to waking him up. he didn't flinch a centimeter. .....it's the screaming that earns a low groan from the male, his fingers patting around his pockets as if he were trying to find a pillow to cover his ears. "why." he mumbles, his fingers coming out of his pocket so that he's able to rub his eyes. but he pauses when he recalls where he is, why he's here and -- jungkook's head immediately raises, and god, his throat was sore. was he sleeping with his mouth open? ewgh, he needed some water, immediately. "did you throw that at m-" "BOYFRIEND, PRAISE THE LORD, EVERYONE" boyfriend? he blinks, his head tilting to the side before turning his head towards the three people in the door way.
he's about to reject the mere idea of it before his gaze lands the younger girl behind the parents, who's eyes were round as she stared at him, and there's a hint of a smile apparent on her cheeks. one of his arms is hanging over the edge of the hospital bed's rails, and it's when her younger sister gives him a small wave that he looks at kristine, then back to her parents before his lips curl into a small simper. "yep, that's me. i'm the boyfriend." he looks to kristine in the corner of his eyes as if saying 'go along with it' before nudging himself up off of the seat. a hand raises to remove the hood from his head and he extends his right hand, with his left hand pressing beneath his elbows to shake both of their hands. "my name is jungkook, it's a pleasure. i've heard all about you."
@ᴊᴇᴏɴ ᴊᴜɴɢᴋᴏᴏᴋ ᵛ Kristine looked over at Jungkook and raised a brow. "You serious?" She closed her eyes for a moment and felt the tips of her ears turning a bit hot to the touch. A soft, disgruntled groan escapes past her lips before she looked over at him and made a face. "I only see him as a friend. You think he's going to get hurt if I reject him? He was a very good friend. I seriously hope that this doesn't break us apart. That would , a lot." she muttered sleepily before shifting around a bit carefully, taking small movements until she was laying onto her good side, facing him. A thought came to her head and immediately, she snorted. "So. A chick was eyeing you and you're reaction was to fall asleep? Good job, Jungkook. You blew your chance with some chick who's probably extremely pretty." Her lips were up in a playful smirk until she yawned to break it.
"Mm."
She responded with a slight nod before chuckling. "True. I hope there won't be a next time either. I don't think I plan on going back to the woods for a while. It could be dangerous. I think I'm going to stay with my family for a bit, who knows. That, or I get a temporary apartment. I strongly choose the latter, though." Kristine's eyelids seem to grow heavier and heavier by the minute. She could barely make out his small smile and quiet whisper of agreement to her plea. She felt the coolness rest against her forehead indicating that the towel had been removed. Her eyes closed for a moment and opened them slightly to watch the male wipe his swear against her forehead gently. A faint coral color bloomed across the apples of her cheeks but because of the way the blanket was positioned, it was hard to tell what was going on beneath it. "Mm. Sleep well, Jungkook."
It didn't take too long as Kristine had closed her eyes and quickly fell into a deep slumber. All throughout the night, the morphine had seemed to wear off and the pain started to settle into her bones and muscles. Any position was painful and she tried to move too much as she was a mover in her sleep. The following morning, she could hear the door slam open which caused her to jolt awake with slightly round eyes and with bags under her eyes. Kristine watched as her parents walked in loudly, followed by her younger sister. "Good morning!" Her mother cheerfully shouted before the three halted in their steps and looked at the area next to Kristine's bed.
"What?"
Kristine grumbled lowly before looking over to see Jungkook sleeping away with his head tilted back and his mouth wide open, snoring into the air quietly and soothingly. She pursed her lips, trying not to laugh before looking back at her family who were confused and flabbergasted at the sight. They knew Kristine wasn't the type to get into relationships, so seeing this, her mother grinned and squealed rather quietly. The only thing that went across Kristine's mind was, "Oh, god." She had to get him up some how. It was painful, but she grabbed a plastic small cup from the table beside her and tossed it at Jungkook's head.
"Get up!" Kristine shushed under her breath and gritted her teeth. "Mom, dad. It's not what it lo--"
"Is that you're boyfRIEND, KRISTINE?! Oh! KRISTINE HAS A BOYFRIEND, PRAISE THE LORD, EVERYONE." her mother shouted and mentally, Kristine wanted to die right then and there.
@ᴋʀɪsᴛɪɴᴇ ғʀᴏsᴇᴛʜ ʰ "he thinks you're hot, that's for sure. didn't mean to tune into 'em, but some chick was eyeing me so i had to pretend i was asleep. i'd prepare to... break that news to him when he comes in, if he does. 's friends are definitely confident that you feel that way too, telling him to go for it." it was never good to assume, nor was it good to motivate your friends to assume. even by the first time jungkook had experienced officer lee and kristine's vibe around each other, /he/ could tell that she wasn't interested in him. but he was definitely interested in her. no wonder she knew, really. it was quite obvious. if the other did decide to go for it, as they say, it could definitely be a friendship-breaker. it all happens the same. you have a good friend, you start liking that good friend, the good friend rejects you and it's just... a weird atmosphere. we all know how it goes.
"doritos? cheetos, chex mix.."
the male purses his lips and his head to the side once, brows knitting together before he shakes his head. "i've never heard of those, but maybe next time. though, i hope there won't be a next time." he nods, his fingers still holding the towel to her forehead. there's an amused look apparent on his face as he watches her, his head nodding twice as his lips curl into a light smile -- which is followed by a quiet whisper. "yeah, i'll stay." by then, the towel had cooled down. so he retracts his hand and sets the towel to the side before using one of his sleeves to gently press upon her forehead to catch any lasting wetness. "there. now get some rest, okay? i will too."
jungkook hadn't stayed up this late in months, and he was definitely struggling to stay awake. his legs raise to rest upon the edge of the bed once more, fingers lacing together in the warmth of the pocket hoodie before his head leans back against the chair. "g'night, kristine." he murmurs whilst his gaze slips closed, and it's only a matter of minutes before he's entering his sleeping world of bliss.
@ᴊᴇᴏɴ ᴊᴜɴɢᴋᴏᴏᴋ ᵛ "The people that are waiting out there are, I'm assuming, Officer Lee and his friends and a few others, right? I'd rather not...you know." Kristine explained a whispery tone before shrugging her shoulders just lightly. "It's obvious Officer Lee likes me, but I don't --" She takes a deep breath because she feels bad about mentioning it, but it was the truth. It's how she actually feels. "I can't return the same feelings. He's kind, caring, humorous and passionate about his job but, I don't know." She explained and closed her eyes for a moment, trying not to move around much as the pain was starting to settle in bit by bit. Kristine looked up at the other as he stood up and began to walk around the room. "I'm not the right person for him and he deserves much better, if anything."
Kristine never found herself to be interested in any guy that came around. Sure, she dated a few here and there but she never got into official, romantic relationships with anyone. It was -- awkward for her. "Goldfish?" Kristine broke out of her thoughts and looked at the wall across from her. "I used to eat gold fish all the time." She mentioned as she adverted her gaze over at the male who came back with an extra blanket. 'Wow, he's very observant, or was it obvious' she thought as he began to tuck the sheet around her thin body. Kristine mumbled a soft 'Thank you' and let's out a small 'pfft' sound when he said he had emptied the entire goldfish section of the vending machine. "You should've gotten some kind of variety. Like goldfish, doritos or cheetos -- something. You could've made your own chex mix." she suggested and rolled her eyes before feeling the warm towel pressing against her forehead.
For a moment, she stared up at Jungkook and wondered what kind of vampire he was to be this gentle and this kind and caring. Maybe it was because of the toxic vampires she had been hanging out with, that this kind of attention from a vampire like Jungkook was quite odd. It was interesting to see though. A vampire that wasn't so violent or venomous - well - except for the time he chewed her out for being a horrible person, besides that, he seemed like a marshmallow. When the lights were turned off and he settled back into his seat, Kristine nodded and lets out a soft yawn before curling up a little bit more. She eyed him down for a moment, her nose and lips hiding beneath the blanket before poking out completely to speak. "You'll stay, right?"
@ᴋʀɪsᴛɪɴᴇ ғʀᴏsᴇᴛʜ ʰ "okay, okay.. i'll stay." jungkook reassures her, slowly leaning back down to take a seat once more in the chair. this time around, he gets a bit more comfortable and raises his feet to rest them upon the side of the hospital bed. his arms loosely wrap around his knees, fingertips lightly rubbing upon the fabric of his sweatpants. he thinks back to what she'd said a few moments before, head turning to glance at the door before looking back to her direction. "friends should make you feel loved, no?" if they didn't, were they even friends? his hands raise to place the hood over his head once more - and this time for good as he looks at kristine. he felt a bit... helpless, which was definitely an feeling that was unfamiliar to him. he sees her shudder and his lips purse almost immediately.
without saying anything, he stands up and looks around for a moment, "there should be..." there's the closet. jungkook steps to it and opens the door, peeking his head in before releasing a light 'ah' as he finds what he's looking for. more blankets. reaching out to take the thickest one and a small towel, he nudges the door shut with his foot before returning to her side. "have you ever heard of gold fish?" he questions as he sets the towel to the side in order to begin setting the blanket atop of her. he's never been so gentle in his life than he was being now as he tucks the blankets into her sides. that's why she was so cold, they hadn't even tucked her in properly. typical.
"i ate all of the small bags they had of 'em in the vending machine." he couldn't help himself, they were so good. he finds himself in front of the sink shortly after, turning it on to let it run to the hottest temperature. the male takes the towel that he'd previously grabbed so that he can soak it in the hot water, which he then turns off so that he can ring out the towel of any loose water. he's walking back to her, turning off the light in the room before returning to her side. one of his hands reach forward to nudge her hair away from her forehead so that he's able to place the warm towel against it. "this should help you warm up." his tone is quiet as he takes a seat upon the chair once more. "you should sleep, kristine. it's late, you need to rest. you're safe here."
@ᴊᴇᴏɴ ᴊᴜɴɢᴋᴏᴏᴋ ᵛ "because, i wanted to remind you that you owe me a new shirt ---- i'm kidding."
Kristine looked up at him with a raised brow and even though his small joke wasn't funny, she couldn't help but give somewhat of a lopsided smile. It was awkward between them even though she had no idea who he was and he had know idea who she was. They only just met a day or two ago and here they were, in the hospital room making small talk. At the mention of earlier when he had come to save her and about her not looking "too good." she winced and nodded her head slightly. "I don't remember much. All I remember was you back at the forest and then seeing the hospital building.
His next words made her look up at him with slightly round eyes, then her gaze slowly falls down his figure. She shook her head and gave a forceful small smile. "I feel -- I just feel weak and tired mostly. Surprisingly, not dead." She joked lightly with a dry laugh before pursing her lips. "there's a lot of people out there for you, you know? you must feel very loved." Her brow lifted upwards and her expression turns somewhat blank. "I don't know about the loved part, most are just friends anyways." she spoke softly and shrugged her shoulders just a bit. The air around her was cold and she tried her best to keep warm, but at the mention of Officer Lee, she shuddered just a tiny bit and grumbled.
Watching him rise from the chair, she looked at him with a slightly panicked look on her face. Almost as quickly as he ended his sentence, she blurted out, "No. Stay, please. I don't want to face anyone else, and -- I don't know, I can tolerate you around me." She said softly and winced once again. "Sorry that this isn't some kind of drama show where I can just suddenly grab your wrist, but, don't go."
she can't see it, but his fingers are fidgeting within the large pocket of the hoodie while he stands there in silence. he was questioning himself, because even he didn't know the answer. "because, i wanted to remind you that you owe me a new shirt." he murmurs, but he waves his hand with a hint of a smile on his lips. "i'm kidding." jungkook - hesitantly - takes a few steps forward until he's closer to the side of the bed, where he takes a seat on the chair and raises a hand to remove the hood from his head. he clears his throat softly whilst rubbing against the nape of his neck. "i had to stay, to make sure you were okay. you weren't... you just didn't look too good on the way here." his gaze slips to his hands that were now atop his lap, and he presses his lips together while his brows knit. "and i wanted to apologize, for yesterday. i was a bit harsh."
jungkook takes a moment to look at everything that was hooked up to kristine, the machine beside her that wouldn't stop beeping, the many plugs sinking into the veins of her arms. then he looks at her neck, the only wound visible to him. "how are you feeling?" he questions softly. he curses himself inwardly, because he knows that he can't get attached. but there was something about what the nurse said that peaked his curiosity. 'she's going to need you.' would she? why would she? pfft, maybe the nurse was a bit off her rocker. it's a little awkward between them, and for the first time in a long time, he's unsure of what to say. especially when she was in this state.
"there's a lot of people out there for you, you know? you must feel very loved." it gave him some comfort too, to know that there were a lot of people around her that would be able to take care of her. especially because he knew that he couldn't. "officer lee seemed a bit jealous that i got to come in first." what was this, tea time? okay, maybe he should shut up. jungkook leans back in the chair, his teeth sinking into his lower lip while he examines the girl. then he clears his throat again, and he nudges himself up. "anyway, you probably don't want me here, right? i can get going then."
@ᴊᴇᴏɴ ᴊᴜɴɢᴋᴏᴏᴋ ᵛ The nurse placed some more blankets over Kristine to keep her warm. The IV fluid that was going through her veins were icy cold; in fact, she had never felt this cold in her life. Even two thick blankets couldn't keep her warm. Her teeth chattered every now and then but after being assisted into a comfortable position, she had the blankets wrapped up around her and under her chin as well. "If you need anything, just press the button right here. We'll come running for you. Okay? Try to get some sleep when you can." The doctor instructed and was followed up with the nurse nodding her head. Kristine smiled tiredly and nodded her head just a bit before letting out a soft yawn.
There was a knock at the door just as the doctor and nurse were leaving and they moved out of the way and in came Jungkook. The door was closed behind him and Kristine seemed to freeze in her position. She had completely forgotten that he was the one that brought her to the hospital in the first place. Right? Kristine's were heavy, not because she was tired but because she was pumped full of morphine. Everything felt heavy.
"Hey, you."
Kristine looked up at the male and closed her eyes, letting out a soft sigh. "Hi." she whispered as she adjusted the sheets a bit to cover her up some more. There was somewhat of a long, awkward silence between the two of them and Kristine looked everywhere else before her gaze fell back onto the male. "Why did you stay?" she asked suddenly, the end of her words slurring together just a bit. "I assume the surgery lasted a long time, but - why did you stay?" she elaborated as she looked at him straight into his eyes before her gaze fell onto the wall beside him. His words back when she booted him off from the giant sequoias, came back to mind and almost instantly her whole body seem to curl up just a bit. Though his words were venomous and painful, she knew he was right in everything he said. Maybe he was just there to say, 'ha-ha, serves you right.' because she deserved it.
@ᴋʀɪsᴛɪɴᴇ ғʀᴏsᴇᴛʜ ʰ "still nothing?" jungkook questioned, one hand occupied with a cup of coffee from the cafeterie and the other golding three bags of gold fish. what? he was a proud foodie. "still nothing, sir. i told you, we'll come and get you when she's ready."
it had been five hours, nearly six, and jungkook was restless. he'd been in the same chair, surrounded by the same people. maybe he should take a nap, he wasn't prepared for an all nighter. then again -- if he were to fall asleep now, he'd never wake up. okay, no sleeping. then again, he knew he wouldn't be able to sleep even if he tried. his anxiety was through the roof, he couldn't seem to relax the slightest and his leg continuously bounced at a quick pace. during these past six hours, he'd learned a lot. one, that hospital food really isn't too bad. two, who invented gold fish? he should really thank them sometime. three, there are some... strange people in this world. four, a woman going into labor is not pleasant, and he definitely needed his eyes cleansed. he wished he had his earphones, or an alive phone. instead, he just had his anxiety and boredom. hurray.
"sorry." the male mumbles as he feels his shoe nudge someone else's as he attempts to find some kind of comfort. his fingers nudge through his hair as he pulls the hood over his head, and his hands soon find warmth as they swim within the large pocket of the hoodie. it didn't help that he was partially still in his work clothes -- waist down, that was. his head leans back against the chair and his eyes shut for a few moments... but he feels a pair of eyes on him so they open only seconds later, meeting a pair of hazel eyes just across from him. her toe had nudged his, he'd realized, and his eyebrow raises. why was she -- was she checking him out? she looked familiar, somehow, but he couldn't pinpoint from where. her hair was dark, short, she looked mature but was probably.. eighteen, or somewhere around that age. no wonder, she couldn't get her hormones under control. he catches as her lips quirk upwards and jungkook just blinks to her for a good few seconds before leaning his head back against the chair once more with a quiet sigh.
okay, maybe he should reconsider sleeping.
then he hears the officers in the far corner and decides to focus in on their conversation. he needed some kind of entertainment as he pretended to sleep, right? "so you've gotta thing for her?" one questions, and jungkook has to quickly peak over to the officers to know whom was apart of the conversation. ah yes, there's what's his face -- officer lee? officer kim? jeez, he needed to better his memory. his eyes shut once more as he listens, definitely intentionally. "well she /is/ hot," it earns a quiet snicker from jungkook, and anyone would be able to hear the other cops teasing him. "disrespectful." he whispers to himself with a shake of his head. one of them mentions something about how he should go for it, and that's when he decides to tune out. he didn't have time to waste brain cells on this conversation.
'are you the mother and father of kristine kroseth?' right, the family goes in first. understood. but when he opens his eyes to take a look, he's surprised to see that one chick stand with them. 'is my sister going to be ok...' sister? her sister was hitting on him? the thought was a bit... cringeworthy to him, but amusing at the same time. his eyes follow as they walk away but soon return to the now empty seat ahead of him. the room had fallen silent, and now everyone had begun to fall asleep. except for officer lee, whom was ready to - what it seemed - to barge into her room whenever he'd been given the chance. he'd even gotten up and taken a seat across from jungkook, who's eyes were closed again. but he could feel the others' gaze on him. admittedly, the male had begun to doze off, but his head lifted the moment he heard the familiar voices returning to the room.
"may i head in, miss?" he hears the officer question, and his eyebrows furrow. no fair, i was here first, he thinks to himself. "i'm sorry officer, i don't think now is a good time for questioning. she's still a bit... out of it. plus, this young man was here first." ha. "sir?" she questions, and jungkook nudges himself up. he looks at the officer while doing so, who... well, he didn't look /too/ happy with him. jeez, harsh crowd. "you can follow me." the nurse begins telling him what he'd already figured, how she really shouldn't move at all, how she's out of it, etc. "alrighty now, go on." well, he wasn't expecting her to just leave him there. jungkook blinks for a moment, looking around with pursed lips before taking a step forward. one of his hands slip out of the hoodie in order to knock against the door.
@ᴊᴇᴏɴ ᴊᴜɴɢᴋᴏᴏᴋ ᵛ Surgery took longer than it should have. Kristine had been injured and exposed for more than several hour so she had lost a lot of blood. The vampires who were responsible were no where to be found and the wooded park had been closed down for crime seen measures. If anything, Kristine would most likely not want to go back to her cabin for a while, even alone. It was dangerous for her now and even though she got out partially alive and torn up, who's to say that the vampires won't come back to continue their heinous work?
After several hours of being stitched up, getting blood transfusions and bandaged, she was moved to a room where she could wake from the anesthesia they had given her. Thank god for the modern age, they also pumped her with lots of morphine to deal with the pain and although she was hurt and near death, coming off the anesthesia would honestly be a sight to see. The doctors had recorded her vital signs after the surgery and everything seemed normal, but she needed to stay a couple of night to a week in order for her to gain more energy and strength. The bite to her neck was dangerously close to her artery and if it had been tampered with or damaged in any way, Kristine would definitely be dead right now. So, with that on surveillance, everything else was normalized.
The main doctor had come out of the room and made his way to the waiting room where at first it was one person: Jungkook, and had become a room filled with people. The doctor coughed to be acknowledged politely as to not disturb everyone's quiet conversations and the family of Kristine stood up. "Are you the mother and father of Kristine Froseth?" He asked as they both nodded frantically, Kristine's younger sister, Alice, clutching onto her father's arm with wide eyes. "Is my sister okay, doc?" she mumbled before the doctor waved them both to follow him to Kristine's room.
By now, Kristine was slowly regaining consciousness and she couldn't feel a thing. At first, she thought she was paralyzed from the neck down but when she opened her eyes slowly and looked at her hand, she managed to wiggle her fingers slightly. She just couldn't feel the sensation of it moving. The nurse beside Kristine looked over and rushed by her side to see if everything was alright. "Ms. Froseth? How are you feeling?" She asked as the nurse looked over at the monitor for any abnormalities that may have turned up. Kristine whined softly and mumbled through her pouty lips, "I feel like -- gazelle, frolick--frolick?...frolicking in the desert plains. Heh." The nurse seemed to snort under her breath before nodding her head. "I see you're doing fine, no pain?", "No pain, no gainnnnn misterrr." she slurred and shook her head side to side. The nurse gently grabbed the sides of her head and chuckled, "Try not to move your head, you got stitches on the side o your neck, you don't want to open those wounds, right? Just lay still, and relax." Kristine seemed to look at her with furrowed brow look, but her eyes were closed and heavy. "I can't open my eyes." She slurred with a soft whine trailing right after.
The door opened to her room and in came the doctor with that grandfather like grin. "I see Ms. Froseth is awake." in return, Kristine grunted in response and watched as her parents and sister trail in behind. "Oh, Kristine!" her mother wailed and was about to wrap her hands around Kristine until she let out a soft, "No, please." to her mother. "Oh, right." Both of her parents side and Alice stood beside Kristine and gently held her hand. "Hey, sis." Alice muttered and Kristine looked up at her almost in defeat and shame. "Hey." Her father seemed to groan and growl under his breath and Kristine just knew that she was going to get an earful from him.
"You should've just accepted the position as the next CEO, Kristine."
"Dad, please." Alice growled under her breath but both her mother and father stood their ground and her mother nodded her head in agreement to her husbands words. "Your father is right, Kris. Your place is with the family business, not some -- boring...wildlife crap that you're into. Hell, you almost got killed living alone out there, what were you thinking?!" Alice looked over at her mother and widened her eyes and gritted her teeth. "Mom, stop." Kristine sighed and listened to her parents chew her out from over her. Alice's hold on her hand tightened in reassurance before Alice looked down and shook her head. This isn't what Kristine wanted and even though she was so high on anesthesia, she could easily comprehend what was going on around her. "Y-you're both too loud, you're giving me a headache." Kristine muttered through her lips and held onto Alice's hand tighter. "It ain't my f-ing fault that I wanted to choose a different career than control a boring business." Her words with slurred, but her sentence had made Alice purse her lips to keep her laughter in. Her father's face fell into more of an angry one and her mother's jaw nearly fell to the floor. "Watch your language, Kristine." Her father warned and Kristine stuck out her tongue in response earning a insulted gasp from her mother. "She got that from your side of the damn family." Her father groaned to his wife whom looked at him with round eyes. "Oh, no. That's from your side of the family you dimwit. How could you blame my family, I--."
Their starting argument faded into the background and she looked up at Alice who was once holding in her laugh now filled with worry. "I'll be okay, Al." Kristine mumbled, squeezing her younger sister's hand. Alice sighed and nodded. "I wish you came back home. It's so -- dull without you there." She suggested but Kristine shook her head and smirked. "You should move out of that house. You deserve more. You didn't have to take up that position." Kristine replied as she slipped her hand away from her sisters and tried to get more comfortable. Alice tugged the blanket over Kristine a little more and gently brushed her hair back. "I know. But they guilt tripped me into doing it." Alice replied and looked back at her parents who were bickering about where Kristine's attitude originated from. "We'll go now. I want you to rest up. I'll come back tomorrow morning, okay?" Alice spoke softly and leaned down to peck her older sisters cheek. Kristine smiled rather cat and chuckled softly. "Alright, druggy. Get some sleep." Alice snorted before waving her hand and drags her parents along with her out of the room.
The doctor and the nurse stood in the corner and was completely taken aback by Kristine's small little family. "You've got some...interesting parents." The nurse said, followed by a fatherly chuckle from the doctor.
@ᴋʀɪsᴛɪɴᴇ ғʀᴏsᴇᴛʜ ʰ "i know, i know you are. it's okay, you're gonna be okay. you're safe with me, i've got you."
he was trying his best to not let her down. he couldn't let her down, especially her. it's not like the two had any kind of special connection, but -- well, he didn't know. jungkook didn't want her to get hurt, especially after he said some.. pretty vile things to the girl just the day before. then again, he really didn't think that they would see each other again. his plan was to stay as far away from her that he possibly could, she was doing something... so unacceptable. but he wondered how she got in this position, if she's been in the woods for a long time (like he guessed because damn, did she know her way around) how could she have gotten attacked? then again -- the three vampires didn't seem happy that she couldn't help the night before. perhaps she stood her ground this time around.
"kristine, kris- can i get some help, please?" the male called out in frustration, and there's medics rushing towards him shortly after. what had taken them so long? "what happened?" they question as they take her from his hold, laying her down on one of the beds with wheels on them. "i -- she's kristine froseth, the girl that's missing? she was attacked in the woods, i found her there, she's lost a lot of blood. i -- i tied over all of them to stop circulation." jungkook basically had to force his eye color to change, and it was painful when it had to be forced. but he couldn't give away what he was, especially in this situation. he's hurrying back with them until one of the nurses places her hand out to stop him. "i'm going to have to stop you here, sir." his face falls, and his brows knit together. "but -" "go out into the waiting room, we'll find you with any updates. relax, she's going to be alright."
worry set in his stomach as his hand helplessly fell to his side, and she gives his shoulder a gentle shake. "you have to believe she'll be okay, too. she's going to need you." there are soft pants escaping his lips as he looks at the nurse, soon nodding his head as his shoulders slump. "you'll call her family, right?" she nods. "we will, now go on. we'll find you when we have some updates on her condition. alright?" jungkook's eyes raise to overlook the nurse, into the windows of the large doors behind her before returning his gaze to hers -- and there's worry present in his orbs. "promise me, that she'll be okay." 'and no broken promises' he adds inwardly, and the nurse breathes out the lightest chuckle with a small smile filled with sympathy. "i promise." jungkook nods, whispering a quiet "okay" in return before turning around to enter the hospitals waiting room.
the next hour was all a blur. the officers had burst into the hospital, especially the officer that was -- particularly close to kristine, they questioned jungkook and even offered him a hoodie (which he gladly took; the second thing that he loved more than sleep were comfortable hoodies.) her family members and co-workers were making their way in one by one, all before joining him in the waiting room. though, they probably thought that he was waiting on somebody else.
it had been hours by now, and jungkook was curled up in the chair, continuously spacing out (at nothing in particular) as his fingers flipped his phone against his thigh. it was getting late, and they were all just waiting together. for something, anything. but they had 'no further information as of now that they could give us regarding her condition' which was stupid. a sigh slipped through his lips and his gaze slipped shut.
@ᴊᴇᴏɴ ᴊᴜɴɢᴋᴏᴏᴋ ᵛ Kristine couldn't tell how long she was on the ground for. Everything seemed to go by fast. First she was on the porch of the her home, then she was running into the woods to get away and stopped and then from that point on, everything else was a blur. It was hard to get up in the position she was in; she also felt cold and scared considering she was left alone in the cold damp woods, practically mauled by the vampires. Kristine didn't know if they were going to come back or not, but that wasn't the time to worry about it now. Each time she moved just a smidgen, she let out a heavy, painful exhale that wracked throughout her whole body. Tears continued to flow from the corners of her eyes as she looked up at the night sky. So, this is what is must feel like to die. Alone, scared, frightened, cold -- forgotten. Now she knows exactly Jungkook was talking about the day before. Did she deserve it? Her automatic answer would be "yes."
Her blood kept her somewhat warm as it kept trickling down her injured, frail body. Kristine kept falling in and out of consciousness, but she tried her best to hold on a little while longer, but for what? Her hearing started to fail her and so did her vision, but she heard something call her name in the distance. "Kristine?" it was soft, rushed and filled with pure worry and terror. It sounded familiar and as the voice got closer, she couldn't pin point it until a few seconds later. "J-Jungkook?" She whispered hoarsely, her eyelids at half mast as she tried to get a good look at him. While doing so, sh felt the belt tighten around her thigh which made her yelp out in pain. Her eyes closed tightly and gritted her teeth before she stilled completely, painting heavily. The arm part didn't hurt much after that, in fact, she couldn't really feel a thing after wards.
hey -- Kristine, you need to keep your eyes open, okay? i'm gonna get you help, you're going to be just fine. but you need to help me too, okay? keep your eyes open. think of crime shows, all of the criminal minds that you've watched'
His voice was soothing, and even though she didn't watch tv, she tried to put her mind on things that were important to her, things she could continue to fight for. Her younger sister, her parents, her home -- the cabin -- and the environment around her. Just thinking about these things made her fragile heart become slightly warm. She also felt herself being picked up which made her wince and murmur something along the lines of, "it hurts." Kristine breathed in and out raspily and rested her head against his chest.
"you're not going to die, i've got you."
Kristine could feel her eyes watering up again and softly, she whispered under breath both weakly and painfully. "Jungkook?" She started as she took another deep shaky breath. "I'm scared." she added. Her skin was icy cold and her complexion was a lot more lighter than it was supposed to be. The air changed and she tried to force her eyes open and when she did, she could only catch a split second of a sign that blared, "Hospital." Kristine felt herself slip into unconsciousness again, this time a little longer than usual.
