scenery views are always the the equivalent of pure, undulterated happiness to huening bahiyyih. it's the very same as warm food her mother would make on a cold evening- or the street foods lining seoul in which bahiyyih has gotten quite addicted to, no surprise there. bahi has always been a er for cheesy, greasy, fatty foods and her family always would tell her - "how are you not gaining any meat on your bones?!" incredulous would be her grandmother's words as she visited over the vacation. sometimes the 19 year old would simply wish to hide away, lock herself away in a room and escape all the demands and needs from her extended family, all the judgment and stares.
everyone in her family owns something, they're 'bigshots' so to speak - but bahiyyih wasn't the type to care about such things. always wanting to help out others, volunteer and merely be someone with a purpose in life. helping others, making suffering animals feel comforted that they have someone. it is why, she decided to save up slowly but surely, wanting to use whatever of her saving funds to open an animal shelter in her name one day. it would be hers. no one else to answer to. while being a psychology major in hopes of figuring out the way the mind works, wanting to clinically help humans who cannot help themselves when they're 'genuinely' suffering from a mental illness.
not like those using mental illnesses as an excuse. it is what brought bahiyyih over to the lake facing the city's silhouette, late at evening. her group assignment has been stressing her out - for one, no one in the group does what they're told to do. everyone has their fair share of parts needed to get done, yet, no one bothered to take part in it. leaving all the work for poor bahi to do. she's not someone who would sit there and take their , but she needed a good score on this piece and if their group dynamic didn't work - their professor has this stupid belief, that if one person acts up, then the entire group is to be blamed. what logic is that?!
she cannot even wrap her head around that as she slipped down to lay against the plush softness of the grass, her poloroid camera long forgotten - coming over to the lake to take pictures of the scenery and create some additional memories of her time in the city. away from the u.s, from the life she's used to. it's a solid change - but a change no less that she welcomed with opened arms - wishing to make this world somehow, a better place. if only she had more friends to talk to - lament her worries to, not overprotective family who could use their money to rid someone - if only....
