Emma peered over the other's cauldron and smiled. "You are doing very well." She nodded as she turned over to peer into the book in between them. "Just add a few at a time and watch if it turns red. If it doesn't, just keep adding more and more until it does." She nodded as she peered into her own cauldron and noticed the deep red color. She laughed at the others remarks and agreed. I guess she did have a gift for potions. She did cook for her family whenever they were out and about and came home. Maybe she learned it from that.

"That is true. It's just because potions are so hard." She chuckled. "Just a small step can change a whole thing." She said as she listened to the boy once more. "What do you like then?" She blinked as she started to mix her cauldron. "Do you like charms or mythical creatures and stuff?" She smiled as she peered once more into her cauldron and noticed an orange color. She stopped at once and waited. "You're probably an expert at something very fun." She smiled up at him.

@song dahye Minhak stared quietly at the page in front of him, reading over the words carefully to make sure that he didn't miss anything. To anyone else, especially the Ravenclaw girl that sat beside him, would probably assume he hadn't a clue as to what he was supposed to do. He could practically feel the disgust radiating off the girl as she was most likely assuming exactly that. It was, however, the furthest from the truth.
In reality, the boy with fading pink hair was doing as he usually does, taking time to go over the instructions as well as his alternate notes, based on research he'd done before hand, so that when he actually starts on the concoction he wouldn't have to constantly be glancing back and forth between his cauldron and his potions book.
Eventually, Minhak stands, disappearing into the closet to collect the ingredients he needed, knowing full well that the only way his so called partner was going to work with him was if she was actually forced to, which wasn't going to happen. When he returns he immediately sets to work, the color of his hair slowly brightening into a light orange as he falls into a deep concentration.

@emma watson Daehyun leaned over his cauldron, not even blinking as he waited for the the liquid to turn from deep purple to pink. Potions is a very, very serious field, so he knew he had to pay close attention to the subtleties of it! Not even three seconds have passed before he jerks back, his eyes watering a bit from the steam coming up from the cauldron. By the time he's completely recovered, the concoction is already a light pink. Clearly he must have done something right? He sent Emma a quick smile, and quickly reached for the container of porcupine quills, peering into it to be able to see when they've been shaken enough. "Okay! So after that, I get to pour them in? Do I pour in all of them, or just some of them?"

As he began to shake the container, Daehyun listened carefully to her words, humming a bit to himself. "I'm not so good at seeing when I've made a mistake," he tells her sheepishly. "And anyway, sometimes I don't even make one, and it still comes out badly! I think with Potions you have to have a knack for it, or else it's just really hard."
emma watson 8 years ago
@♘ ⓒ jung daehyun Emma chuckled at the other's actions and smiled as she watched him do his own work. She was pretty pleased with herself as they words she was saying was pretty much reaching him. She was scared that her explanation may have confused him or caused an explosion in the potion classroom. She looked at Daehyun's cauldron and smiled. "You're doing really really well." She smiled as she gave him a small pat on the back. "You're learning very fast." She smiled as she looked into her book her the next steps. "It says here to shake the powdered porcupine quills until they are ready, and then add it in until the potion turns red." Emma grabbed the ingredients and began to follow the book. "I guess they'll be ready when a small spark happens or something." She chuckled as she added them into her cauldron until the potion turned into a bright red color.

"Yes. Potions is a hard subject." She chuckled. "Just one small mistake can kill you. But mistakes are very easy to spot out depending on the appearance or the smell of the potion thank god." She chuckled as she rubbed her nape. "Eternal sleep is hard. Like, they're pretty much alive but they're just sleeping...forever." She shrugged and looked back at her cauldron. "There's probably a way to stop it though. Maybe there's a spell or another potion or charm that can wake someone up very forcefully." Emma smiled.
♘ ⓒ jung daehyun [A] 8 years ago
@emma watson Daehyun's progress was a little bit slower. He was so intent on not messing up the powdered moonstone step that it took his hand more than five separate trips from container to cauldron for the substance to turn blue. When it did, though, he gave a happy chuckle, reaching over to grab something to mix it with. As he stirred his potion, he risked a quick glance over at Emma's cauldron. Of course, hers was already a rich purple color. He wrinkled his nose, a bit frustrated, before remembering with a start that he should be paying attention to his own work. Luckily, when he turned back to his own cauldron, the concoction was only just shifting to a deep green color.

As he reached over to collect some more powdered moonstone, Daehyun offered her a thankful smile. "I'm glad. I don't want to poison anyone, much less send one of my poor underclassmen into an eternal sleep." He hummed lightly to himself, sprinkling and waiting for the potion to turn purple.

@♘ ⓒ jung daehyun Emma chuckled at his small story and shook her head. "As for me.." She thought back for a litle bit. "I was pretty good at cooking, or baking at that matter." She smiled. "I love to bake for people. It was fun looking at their reactions." Emma smiled as she began the same step, placing in some powder a few teaspoons at a time before it color-changed to blue. She listened to Daehyun once more as her eyes widened. "Oh! Be careful next time." Emma laughed. "You could've gone into an eternal sleep!" Emma looked at him and smiled. She mixed her cauldron until the liquid turned into a deep green. "It says here after that, you keep adding in the powder until it then turns purple." Emma did the step quite exact before letting it sit for a bit. The cauldron containing the purple liquid had a sort of pleasant scent. "After this we wait until it turns pink, then we add a syrup of hellebore until the potion turns turquoise." Emma nodded.

She stared at the other's process as she smiled. It seemed he wasn't doing alright for now. He hasn't really messed anything up and was doing excellent in fact. "You're doing very good." Emma complimented him and smiled. "All you need to do is just repeat the steps in the book and hopefully double-check you're doing things right so you don't poison someone-" Emma laughed sheepishly as she rubbed the back of her neck.

@emma watson Daehyun's cheeks turned a bit darker with embarrassment after he pulled away from her cauldron. "Ah... yeah. Sorry about that." He hurriedly flipped to the page that Emma was on, so that he could read the recipe as well. "Cooking sounds like it would be fun," he told her in agreement. "But I was never any good at that, either." He shrugged helplessly, giving Emma a sheepish smile. "My dorm-mates say that I could probably burn water." Suddenly, he started to get the sense that even if he made a good Draught of Peace, it was likely that the older Hufflepuffs would warn the younger Hufflepuffs against trying one of his concoctions. It was still worth a try, though.

He straightened up in his seat when Emma began to read from the book, his gaze running over the ingredients in front of them- Daehyun was determined not to mess this up. When she finished, he let out a triumphant laugh, reaching over to take a small amount of powdered moonstone in his curled fingers. "Oh... that would explain it. I think I put in so much of this last time, that it turned yellow-green! I didn't wake up for a while." He shook his head, though a smile remained at the thought of the memory; he'd had the best week of sleep of his life. His slender fingers slowly uncurled over his own cauldron, a few pinches of the powder sprinkling down into the metal cavern.

@♘ ⓒ jung daehyun Emma looked at the other as she took out an extra cauldron and placed it in front of the other. "Here you go. So you can just follow me." Emma smiled as she listened to Daehyun's explanation about the other Hufflepuffs. "Maybe you just added in too much peace." Emma laughed as she turned to the page of her book. "I laid out all of the ingredients here so we just have to read it." She took a look at the book and was confused at the other looking into her cauldron. "I haven't put anything in it yet, silly." She chuckled once more. "I guess potions is fun. It's like cooking... But dangerous." Emma laughed. "Plus if you're gonna test out to see if your potion works, you have to drink am I right?" She smiled and nodded. "It's okay. I'll show you every step and make sure you get it right so you can gift it to the Hufflepuffs." She smiled. It was very considerate of Daehyun to gift other people things that can help them relax. Hopefully, they won't be too relaxed and the potion wouldn't make them fall asleep during class. Shaking her head and placing her thoughts aside she read the potions book.

"It says here we need to add powdered moonstone until the potion turns green. It also says here if we add too much ingredients the person may fall asleep for a long time." Emma shrugged as she read the book. She was pretty used to the horrible consequences of messing up of an important step. I mean, this was the wizard world. "After that it says her to mix it until the potion turns blue." She stopped reading as she placed the moonstone powder in the middle of the two. "Here we go." Emma smiled. "It shouldn't be that hard to add it until it turns green. Just do a little at a time to make sure." She nodded.

@emma watson Daehyun returned the smile, reaching hurriedly into his book-bag to take out his own potion textbook. "Starting easy sounds good," he agreed. He couldn't remember the last time he'd gotten an O in any of his more academic classes- other than perhaps Charms- let alone an E on a potions assignment. He frowned for a moment; now that's not completely fair, seeing as how the Potions professor has practically no expectations for him whatsoever. Shouldn't he exceed expectations every time? Emma's words brought him back, and he nodded enthusiastically. "Of course! If anyone can make me good at making potions, it's you."

He leaned forward slightly, hovering around Emma's cauldron. Nothing happened yet, of course, so he almost immediately sat back in his own seat. "The Draught of Peace..." He frowned, remembering how he'd had an assignment to concoct that some time ago. When he'd taken a sample of his own potion, he'd ended up in a sleeping state for about a week. A nervous laugh escaped from his lips at the memory. "I've always wanted to make that for the younger Hufflepuff students. But I don't know if my take on it would be safe for them to drink."

@jung daehyun Emma lit her as the door opened to reveal Daehyun looking very tired. He was noticeably panting, which meant that he probably ran over. Emma chuckled as his cute attempt to not be late as she nodded. She looked at the other as she patted the seat next to her, asking him to sit down with her. "You're okay." Emma smiled. "I mean it's after class, you can't really be here just like that." She smiled as she took out a few ingredients and her potions book. "I guess we'll start easy for today." Emma said. "And of course I'll teach you! You'll be a potions master in no time!" Emma smiled.

"So.. I guess we'll work on the potion from class today." She looked at the other for a second before coming back to her cauldron. "We'll do the Draught of Peace." Emma smiled. "It's effects are basically it calms you down and relieves your stress for a moment." She explained. "But its side-effects are that you'll get a little too lazy." She laughed. It was fun explaining potions to Daehyun and teaching him, she did have a knack at teaching others so she hoped that this will help him in his future.

@emma watson Emma had told him to be in the classroom by the end of the last class period, but by the time the clock had struck the hour, he was only halfway there. Daehyun sped up, practically sliding down the wide halls as he hurried as quickly as he could towards the dungeons, taking the narrow staircases three steps at a time. By the time he reached the classroom he was completely out of breath, with half of his notes littering the passageway to the dungeons.

Daehyun peeked his head into the classroom, his face slightly red from exertion. "--Hey, Emma! I'm really sorry that I'm late, there was..." His mind raced, trying to figure out some kind of excuse. In all honesty, he'd just been slow packing up his things in his last class. "...ah. Never mind. Just, sorry for being late." He quickly slid into the seat beside her, sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck. "Thank you for agreeing to do this for me. I know you're really talented at this, but I don't know how much you'll be able to help me."

@jung daehyun Emma sighed as she stretched over and placed some things away. Potions was her last class of the day but she still had some things to do. She smiled and bid goodbye to her friends and the professor as she was left in silence. She tok our her book and scanned the potions that were made during the lesson today and planned on reviewing them with her partner. She had plans that were made to tutor one of her friends in the subject he was lacking on the most. They didn't really talk that much but Emma did make an effort, as she liked to help people in need.

She waited a few minutes for the other as she stared at the clock. She took out her parchment and reviewed everything that was taught to her. She did, of course, pass the lesson for today, but just to make sure she reviewed everything so nothing would blow up or mist up the whole entire room. Potions was indeed her favorite subject as it was just so fun to make, if you did do the correct thing with the correct ingredients. She yawned as she sat back down into her seat to wait for Daehyun, resting her head onto the desk as she kept silently reading.
song dahye [A] 8 years ago
@kim minhak It was a particularly rebarbative evening thus far, with Dahye being sanctioned a detention for lingering in her Animagus form to abdicate herself from the curfew hours during the prior evening. Now, she was coupled with a dimwitted Hufflepuff, of whom she'd come to know as the quiet, do-nothinger. On any other mundane occasion, this would have proved to be no bother at all, however given her already peeved circumstances, the young woman mounted her indignation for not only the basic-level potion that she had felt challenged the superiority of her intelligence---but for the stagnant, annoyingly-cute potions partner that sat idly at her side.
Thickly, she swallowed down her blatant pride for a more passive-aggressive approach at showing her displeasure, all while aimlessly carding the thin paper pages of her Advanced Potions textbook to the correct page, before proceeding to gather the essential ingredients in a precise succession. She was indeed, like with most of her air-headed partners-----going to complete the concoction on her own.

@kim jisung "Yeah, right, good luck lying to yourself, I never look like ," comes the arrogant response Zac makes so classic and signature, though he probably should have actually done something with his hair simply to remain in dress code, the boyish, puppy dog, just-rolled-out-of-bed look hardly hindered him. "Look, spawn-of-Voldemort, meet me in the Potion's storeroom after class. And don't ask how I know how to get in there." What could've been a simple request, started to sound more and more like a threat, because that was easy, their level of communication, pretty much. Because you couldn't be pleasant around these sorts of people, Slytherins, a snark remark always waiting at the tip of their wickedly sharp tongues. He remembers being Sorted so clearly, the temptation of the darkness, easily drawing in his widened blue eyes towards the table drenched in silver and green. Gryffindor was a choice, the only choice, and he shouldn't forget that- ever.

It is just a painful upset that sometimes Zac lacks real self-control, swiftly falling addicted to things he shouldn't have, shouldn't want to have, or people who would ruin him. He didn't have to look into Jisung's endlessly dark and crystalline black orbs for long to realize beings like him were created to destroy emotions, without remorse, an intoxicating vixen only a devil could be proud of. And Zac likes to think he's careful, at least, around these types, his muscle-bound frame sliding away from the side of the room riddled with too many snakes, going about pretending to listen to the lectures, half-heartedly engaged in scribbling down notes. Notes that always seemed to be more random doodles instead of actual information, and contrary to what others believe about Gryffindor intelligence, Potions does come easy to him- the hands-on approach simply capturing him more than the dull, in between speeches. He knows how to do the step-by-steps, even think outside the box for the more complex, lethal brews. He's late on his essays and falls half-asleep during tests, but he's one of the first ones done with his brews with little to no error every time, typically catching onto details and active problem solving a lot faster than the book smart over achievers who only memorized instead of breaking down succinctly. They say he has potential, but he doesn't care for anything that doesn't have to do with a riveting spell and hex, or Quidditch- or even the unique mystical creatures the Gamekeeper handles.

By the end of class, Zac's wondering why he didn't just decide to sleep in, seeing as he's receiving detention anyway for bothering to show up at all. A misstep on his part, but it's only an hour after curfew cleaning the dungeons without any magic, a small sacrifice, and a Prefect will be watching him the entire time. Depending on the Prefect, he'll probably just charm his way out of the task, a consideration he makes before darting out of the class and sweeping anxiously into the nearby Storeroom. He doubts the Professor even realizes someone's gotten through his lock and protective Spell, and it's only Zac's trouble-making at its finest, because he can't risk anyone eavesdropping in on this conversation... that Jisung had better show up for. Hands clenching and unclenching repeatedly into fists, a fist that itched to plant into the wall. How did even get to this point for him? How could lips, that used to adore cherry-stained and glossy feminine ones firmly pressed to them, now crave for the unbelievably addictive lips of a boy? A Slytherin boy, at that?

No, he's not here for all of that, and he has to make his intentions clear. That if anyone found out, there would be ing Hell to pay and Zac would see to that promise.

He hoped.

@zac efron The subtle intricacies of potions making had always been a fascination of his. To think that a single vial of liquid could alter the mind of others, kill them swiftly and silently, leaving not a trace of evidence - or even heal the damages caused by a spell or another draught was the reason enough to inspire Kim Jisung into pursuing a career as a Potions Master. Currently, he had discussed the possibilities of an apprenticeship with his current head of house and the potions professor - a sullen, resentfull man though he was, Professor Melarick was well educated and knowledgeable; his temper and impatience left little to desire, but Jisung understands the reason behind his disposition. Teaching a bunch of dunderheaded children, especially those of the Gryffindor variety would leave anyone bitter.

Currently, his NEWT class was focusing on the identification of potions ingredients and their priorities- a task that any First Year could (should) complete with relative ease. As he was jotting down notes, Jisung makes no effort to openly acknowledge the tardiness of the tousled hair Gryffindor - though they had gotten rather familiar with one another the night before, it was (ultimately) a one time occurance that he had no interest in repeating.

He was quite content to leave it be an isolated incident when said perpetrator of pre-mentioned incident came to a half beside him. Pausing mid sentence to glance over at the Gryffindor, he snorts and resumes writing. "You look like , Efron."
ⓚ zac efron 8 years ago
@kim jisung The class gathers at the center, huddled around an assortment of Potions they're meant to identify, with the exception of one... tousle-haired and weary looking Gryffindor, stumbling through the door fifteen minutes already into the lecture. Chiseled features that once struck classmates with confidence and almost irritatingly egotistical knowledge, are distorted with insecurities- guilt, perhaps? Blue eyes that are not their cheerful aqua, the whites streaked with too much red. He's been up for too long. Last night was hell. And no matter how much he's brushed, the taste of his enemy still lingers upon fleshy folds the color of brilliant roseate.

And because the Professor is prior Slytherin, Zac mentally prepares to tune out a lengthy, unnecessary scolding about why members from his House can't behave with punctuality and how they must enjoy the detentions that follow a tardy slip. As a seasoned Gryffindor, it's really only the regular bull he's heard time and time again, ricocheting off his thick skin with ease. Oh no, it's not the Professor that has his stomach flipping, an uncomfortable warmth spreading throughout his chest. It's the sight of ethereal skin, white and silken like milky perfection, the intensely contrasting tattoos only seeming to make one curious instead of cautious. It's the deep set of eyes that know of his fears, could probably read through Zac so openly, a simple flicker of glassy, near-black orbs stopping all common sense and better judgment from reaching the forefront Zac's thoughts, leaving him to dive into dangerous waters upon impulse. Or it could just be the lips, that were not as heady or aggressive as his own that night, but were dramatically more effective with every brush, burning against Zac's mouth, creating a need in the pit of his belly that should have never started in the first place.

Zac tears his betraying gaze from that frustratingly seductive figure, jaw tight and eyes clouded with conflict, and takes his time with removing his bag and Advanced Potions text, thick fingers clutching the tattered spine. It's only when the Professor's attention is finally diverted elsewhere, and the majority of students are prattling about which cauldron brews which specific Potion, that Zac's long strides trudge forward until he's nearly knocking into one lonesome Slytherin. It takes him a while to find his voice, a lump caught in his throat, raspy tone eventually and ever so subtly pouring from the crevices of tender lips. "We have to talk," And if the wicked one tried to give him any about it, he would literally snatch and drag him from the room and into the nearest emptied corridor for a chat. They were going to discuss what could ruin a reputation; and truthfully, Zac didn't know what he could barter with that would make the snake actually keep his mouth shut. But, he'd figure it out. He had to. His friendships and his livelihood were on the line here.
