@kyungsoo d。ᵃᵍᵍʳᵉˢᵒᵒ Seunghee blinks back at him caught off guard by his reply. "Wait, you have? Oh gosh, sorry about that,” she apologizes with a sheepish smile. With all the distractions on the way over, it’s no wonder she missed spotting him. She's about to continue when she realizes his focus is on the same couple that caught hers a few seconds ago. They’re now outside on the sidewalk, hugging each other tightly as if to protect themselves from the harsh realities of this cruel world. The empath in Seunghee wants to run over to them and reassure them that it’ll be okay; however, she highly doubts they’d want comfort from a total stranger. Kyungsoo’s nod is a more appropriate reaction. It acknowledges the situation for what it is, neither dismissing or exaggerating it. He must be used to seeing this, working at the hospital. Death is a daily occurrence here and one must adapt. She just hopes he hasn't become completely numb to it all.

His gentle smile gives her hope, shaking her out of the sad thoughts clouding her mind. ”Yeah let's!” She reciprocates with a grateful smile of her own as they make their way out the door. She can't help but chuckle back, appreciative of the friendly chatter. ”That’s good to hear! I assure you that this sushi will do the trick. You'll be back at one hundred percent after the first two pieces of nigiri!” Seunghee walks with confidence, passing both the bus stop /and/ the train station without a second thought. Luckily for them, the sushi place is less than a block away.

”You heard correct, Kyungsoo! I'm a music teacher by day, karaoke singer by night,” the selkie answers as she adjusts the wooly scarf around her neck. Thankfully she had the foresight to dress in many warm layers, now well-protected against the chilly winter air. Despite being bundled up as well, she notices her friend feeling the effects of the cold with his hand stuffed into his pockets. Lucky for them, the two finally reach their destination: a nondescript hole-in-the-wall with a sign plainly labeled ‘Conveyor Belt Sushi’ dangling on the entrance. It looks rather unimpressive but hopefully, he trusts her judgment. Grinning eagerly at him, she holds the door open for him then follows him inside.

They’re greeted by the lively ‘Irasshaimase!’ coming from the chefs, hard at work to fill the conveyor belt with endless amounts of sushi. Seunghee loves the authentic and cozy atmosphere this place has, plus its happy hour deals are to die for. She’s been here so frequently that the server immediately recognizes her and guides them to her favorite spot at the end of the bar. After setting her guitar case to the side, she settles down in her seat. “So I swear I’m not exaggerating,” she mentions as she finishes wiping her hands with the moist towelette provided. “But this place has the best green tea /ever./” She grabs the container of powdered green tea and puts a generous scoop into her teacup before adding the hot water from the tap in front of them. She likes to think that she’s perfected the ratio of tea to water. “I can make you some if you’d like,” she offers.

@chanyeol p。ʳᵉᵃˡ-ᵖᶜʸ Kyungsoo was delighted at the thumping of the wolf's tail, and he almost gives a cheery smile until he realises that the wolf is still none other than Chanyeol. There went everything sweet and beautiful he has been thinking about, and Kyungsoo snapped himself awake. The thoughts that have been swimming inside his mind disappeared in an instant. He pulled himself to straighten up and dusted the attire he had been wearing underneath the white coat. He cleared his throat, eyes peering somewhere else as he waited for the male to shift back into his human form. He didn't want to be a witness of that — any of that. "Here," Kyungsoo said, tossing a patient's gown into Chanyeol's direction, still not facing the male. Of course, Kyungsoo told himself before turning his head to face the male clad in nothing but his coat. "And you should have known better. What if the children are allergic to fur? What will you do? If you want to greet and playful with the children, I could try to schedule a small playdate outside in the park."

With a shake of his head, he turned his body towards the door, sliding it open. "That's alright. Since you're already here, you can come and greet the children after you changed. They are in the playroom, but you're not allowed to shift into your wolf form, promise me," Kyungsoo sternly said; his brows knitted together as he glared at the police officer. He closed the door behind him before making his way to the break room that the male had previously mentioned before. Grabbing the clothes from the floor, he dusted them off before heading straight back to the room he left Chanyeol.
chanyeol p。ʳᵉᵃˡ-ᵖᶜʸ 5 years ago
@kyungsoo d。ᵃᵍᵍʳᵉˢᵒᵒ Chanyeol was surprised to hear that the doctor was able to understand his nonverbal cue, but then again, kids often weren't very thorough when they were explaining what signs and symptoms they had, so maybe that was the reasoning behind why Kyungsoo caught on since he had experience. The giant wolf bobbed his head, peering down at the human who seemed tiny compared to him. Scratches and pets of any kind always helped to calm him down, so the fact that Kyungsoo was currently giving his ears attention had Chanyeol thumping his tail on the floor in content. He probably wasn't capable of telling the doctor exactly where his clothes were, but the suggestion Kyungsoo had seemed to be the best option.

Once he was securely wrapped in the human's coat, Chanyeol allowed the change to overcome him, bones and limbs snapping and transforming so they could fit into their proper places. Moments later, the police officer got to his feet, stretching his arms over his head with a quiet groan leaving his lips. "Ah...thank you. It's easier this way to communicate, but honestly, I wasn't expecting you to catch me this soon." He mumbled sheepishly. "My clothes are in the break room down the hall, stored away in one of the cabinets. I was planning on visiting some of the children and let them have the opportunity to pet a 'puppy', but that plan was interrupted, wasn't it? And hey, watch it- I ain't no pup, Soo."

"I look forward to that." Chris said with an excited smile. "I'll keep my phone line clear for your call." He stated with a small chuckle and a grin. The doctor had a few people from work he hung out with but no true friends so it would be nice to have someone he could really enjoy being around. Chris walked toward the door and placed his hand on the handle before answering her questioned. "The nurse will have you sign some release forms and then you'll be free to go. Don't worry about the cost, think of these has a pro bono kind of thing." The griffin said with smile as he opened the door. "I look forward to our next encounter."

"Well, as long as we're around each other, I'll make sure you hear that more often!" She said with a twinkling laugh. Her gaze fell to the paper that he was holding out and a smile spread across her lips as she happily accepted it. "I'd love that, too. I'll call you later tonight and we can set up something then. Catching up over a cup of coffee sounds wonderful." Lauren told him, overjoyed that she'd found an old friend because if she was honest, she hadn't really talked to many people in this town yet and she's been here for a few months now. Work just consumed most of her time these days. "So, do I have to remain here in the hospital for long, or am I free to go after speaking with the nurse about the costs?"
kyungsoo d。ᵃᵍᵍʳᵉˢᵒᵒ 5 years ago
@chanyeol p。ʳᵉᵃˡ-ᵖᶜʸ "What are you doing—" Kyungsoo stops. He has been fuming, anger seeping into his bloodstreams. This man couldn't possibly understand how detrimental it is to keep the hospital hygienic. Some patients may be allergic to fur, dogs or other canines. It would be dangerous for the werewolf even to get close to the patients, and Kyungsoo couldn't allow it. His job is on the line, but at the same time, the safety of the patients are at high risk. But the big dog, or a wolf, in this case, stands on his hind legs, ears dropped. He blinks, his defence slowly going down. He has forgotten that a wolf is just like any other dog, bigger, that is all. And he suddenly remembers of the puppies that he had met days ago — how he had wished to adopt one himself. Chanyeol being in this form is anything but good for him to make any decision.

He feels a tug at his lab coat and with a small sigh, he gets down on his knees in front of the wolf, cradling the wolf's head. He gives the male in his shifted form a look; Kyungsoo's lips form into a thin line, his cheeks slightly puffed. "You need your clothes, is that what you're trying to tell me?" He asks, scratching the back of the wolf's ear, humming. He couldn't get angry at the other in this form. "Do you think you can tell me where your clothes are without having to walk out of this room?"

He is wasting a little bit of time here. He has a few doctors he needs to catch up with, but he'll have to make sure Chanyeol is back in human form first. "Here," Kyungsoo says, straightening his back as he takes off the lab coat and wraps it around the wolf. "Transform first and let me know where it is. I'll get you a fresh patient's robe so you can wait in here without alarming anyone. I'll go and grab your clothes in the meantime. Promise you'll be mindful and don't do anything rash anymore. For my sake— I don't want to get fired over this, Chanyeol. I'm not angry at you but stay in here and be a good pup."
chanyeol p。ʳᵉᵃˡ-ᵖᶜʸ 5 years ago
@kyungsoo d。ᵃᵍᵍʳᵉˢᵒᵒ Surely, he was safe now. It felt like a few minutes had passed and yet no one managed to seek out his hiding spot. Unfortunately, though, his cockiness must've been what ended up getting him in trouble, and Chanyeol cured himself internally for thinking he was in the clear when he wasn't.

Once the door opened, Chanyeol fell over in shock. Sure enough, the doctor had found him. How that was possible, Chanyeol didn't know, especially because he thought he'd been fairly stealthy along the way. Yet here he was, face-to-face with the human who was currently blocking his only exit. Sure, he could've plowed right over Kyungsoo with his large stature and strength, but he wasn't going to be reckless and possibly injure the other male.

The giant wolf straightened himself up, then sat back on his hind legs, fuzzy ears drooped a bit and tail stagnant behind him. One might say that he resembled an overgrown puppy, something that Chanyeol would immediately deny since he definitely didn't enjoy being called a dog of any kind when he clearly was a wolf...a predator. Puppies didn't live in the woods and hunt like he did.

In this form, since Kyungsoo wasn't part-animal, Chanyeol would only be able to communicate with him through nonverbal cues on his part. He could understand his friend, but it wouldn't work the other way. The thought of shifting back crossed his mind, but the fact that his clothes weren't nearby was what kept him from doing so. It was going to be difficult enough trying to explain why he'd disobeyed the doctor's strict order of not showing up as a wolf, let alone attempting to escape to at least grab his clothes from the break room.

His options were extremely limited, and the only thing he could think of doing in that moment was to approach the human and latch his teeth onto Kyungsoo's lab coat, tugging on it to try to signal that he'd need clothes of some sort. He only hoped that his vague cue would somehow click for the other, but he wasn't sure if that was possible.

"It is very true." The doctor said with a chuckled. He couldn't believe he was seeing someone he had served along side so many years ago who wasn't human. Any other person he saw or knew about was either elderly or had already passed away. A soft smirk appeared on his face as his old nickname was used once again. " Wow I haven't been called that for a very long time." Chris said. "Listen I have other patients to see but I would really love to catch up with you." He explained as he wrote something on a piece of paper and held it out to the young woman. "This is my personal number please give me a call and we can go get a coffee or something this weekend." Chris said with a hopeful smile.

@seunghee h。ˢᵉˡᵏʰᵉᵉ It hasn’t taken him too long. He changes into his regular clothes, grabs his belongings, stuffs them into his backpack and heads over to the entrance. It seems like he’s earlier than the other that Kyungsoo decides to find a bench to sit. He could use the waiting time to clear his inboxes and reply to a few messages. A few minutes have gone by, and Kyungsoo makes sure to glance up from time to time. He stops scrolling through his phone when he spots her, eyeing the lobby area as well, searching for him.

She lets out a gasp when she finds her standing next to him. Kyungsoo blinks, not believing that it would be easy to get that sort of reaction from her. The volunteer seems attentive most of the time. “I’ve been here, for a while now,” Kyungsoo replies, tilting his head as he turns to the direction of Seunghee’s focus and nods. He wonders where Seunghee’s focus has been until he realises what she has been looking at. There is nothing new when it comes to the living and the dead. The thing that used to be anything but normal becomes monotonous towards Kyungsoo. He remembers the first time he sees death in the hospital, and he hasn’t been the same. He remembers it clearly, and Seunghee doesn’t have to know much of it.

The living should stick with living while the dead should be dead.

“Let’s go,” Kyungsoo says, offering her a gentle smile, directing her attention back to him. “You said you were hungry. I’m famished. I need to recharge after a long day.” He chuckles, trying to make up a conversation, a little something they can share as they walk to the bus stop or the train station. He still doesn’t know where the sushi place that Seunghee would like to recommend but he couldn’t say that he is not intrigued. He turns on his heels, looking at her, anticipating for her to start walking and showing him the way.

“So, Seunghee, I heard you teach children how to play the instruments. Is that your full-time job?” He asks, stuffing his hands into the pockets of his coat, shrugging his shoulder at the coldness of the night. Kyungsoo can’t help but turn to her, a sigh of relief leaves his lips when he finds her warmly dressed. He doesn’t have to worry about any of them shivering or catching a cold.

@kyungsoo d。ᵃᵍᵍʳᵉˢᵒᵒ Seunghee can’t help but snicker at the startled look on the young resident’s face. Who knew he could be so jumpy (and clumsy)? Still, she didn’t mean to surprise him like that, so she hopes the apologetic smile she gives him will make up for it. “No need to be sorry. Like I said earlier, there’s going to be more sing-a-longs in the future that you can join, Doctor Do,” she reassures him. It’s rather odd not calling him by his first name as she does online, but she figures he’d like to keep things professional during his work hours. “Great! See you at the main entrance. Oh, before I forget! Make sure to bring your appetite. We’re going to be treating ourselves tonight!” After such an eventful day, she feels like she’s earned to splurge on her favorite dish.

They head out of the playroom and soon part ways, him heading to wherever his belongings are and her to the main entrance. She gives him a small wave and a smile before walking down the hallway. Unlike this morning, she doesn’t need to rush. No big crowd is going to wait for her, just one single person. So Seunghee takes her time making her way to the main entrance. Some of the nurses from the playroom are now taking their break, so she goes up to them to briefly chat and express her excitement about volunteering again. They seem to reciprocate this and one of them even ask for her business card since his child is interested in learning the guitar. She happily hands him one, always eager to spread her knowledge of music (and make some extra money). With a bright smile, she bids them goodbye and continues on her way.

When she arrives at the main entrance, she’s surprised to not see the young resident there. ‘Guess I beat him,’ she thinks as she approaches the front desk. She quickly stops by to chat with the front desk receptionist who looks like she could use a pep talk or two. Complimenting on her earrings seems to a smile to her face so Seunghee considers this a job well done. If there’s one thing she loves more than anything, it’s being able to connect with someone and make them feel energized and happy. Their conversation is cut short when the receptionist has to take a call. Seunghee quickly waves at her and makes her way to the wall near the door.

There’s a couple slowly exiting the entrance. The woman looks distraught, eyes red and puffy from crying most likely. Her partner remains stoic and strong as if to anchor her from being swept away from the sadness. Though she doesn’t mean to, Seunghee overhears the affirmations he’s saying to the distressed woman, ‘Everything will be okay. We’ll get through this’. Her heart hurts for them and she wishes them the best. Then it hits her: What if they’re the parents of one of the children she sang to today? The next time she volunteers, will she see all the children there or will there be one or two missing? In many ways, she’s used to death from the numerous village elders who passed away to the selkies from her pod who were unfortunately poached to her father... But they were all older, their lives filled with sights and experiences. A lot of these children don’t have that chance with the likelihood of them passing away young. ‘It’s utterly unfair,’ she thinks, eyebrows furrowed in frustration. ‘Life shouldn’t be so cruel.’

She’s so deep in her thoughts that she doesn’t realize the young resident approaching. It’s now Seunghee’s turn to look startled, but she recovers quickly with a sheepish smile. “Hey! Took your sweet time to get here,” she teases.

@chanyeol p。ʳᵉᵃˡ-ᵖᶜʸ For the first time, Kyungsoo feels like the hospital has grown bigger. The walls feel like it is stretched to the most it could be, and the corridors are more extended than before. He feels slightly breathless running past a few nurses, and sometimes, having to stop in his little search just to talk to a few patients and nurses that are making their way to the playroom. In Kyungsoo's small world and his short stature, the hospital seems enormous now, and he doesn't like it one bit. He quietly leans against a wall, making small guesses here and there. He couldn't possibly go through all rooms. And he couldn't ask for the nurses to help with the search.

No one should get hurt at the end of this search. Sure, the person that he meets through that one mobile dating application his mother forced him to download is harmless. Chanyeol seems like a prankster underneath all that confident bravado, slightly meek if you ask Kyungsoo. But no one should get hurt. The children should be kept safe, some of them do have allergies, and Chanyeol in his wolf form may bring harm to them. And he doesn't want to lose his job. Kyungsoo has been working underneath Doctor Kim for two years now. The first fellowship's listing should be his. But at the same time, he also doesn't want to see his friend being dragged out for violating protocols. As much as he despises the teasing and the jokes, he could never do that to Chanyeol.

Perhaps, he has been genuine, only wanting to provide some sort of entertainment for the kids. But a wolf on the night of Halloween isn't the smartest idea.

Right — Chanyeol should be at this level, he thinks to himself. Rooms would undoubtedly be used for hiding, and a big wolf, Chanyeol is, surely can't fit himself behind the vending machines in the waiting area. This little chase and run scenario remind Kyungsoo of his favorite movie two years ago. The heightening of his senses, the drop in his blood level, and the tension. If the world is truly magical, perhaps, someone can flick their fingers and let Boga's Nowhere to Run play as background noise. The hunt should be more fun — less fun because no cars are speeding down the highways, but surely, Kyungsoo would be triumph in his search.

A small thud — Kyungsoo stops in his track, and he starts to fidget. The muscles of his mouth itching to move, and a satisfied smile blooms across his face. He hunches down, taking off his indoor shoes before padding his way to the room that he believes Chanyeol is using to hide. Slowly, he pushes the door slide open and leans against the doorframe, one hand on his hip. "Nowhere to run now. . . Chanyeol." He knows that it is a wolf in front of him, and if it is the usual him, Kyungsoo would be slightly scared, but he believes this is his friend, Chanyeol — a sheep in a wolf's clothing.

@kyungsoo d。ᵈᵒ-ᶜᵃᶜᵗᶦ () don't apologize! i've been slow with my replies as well- ;;

Luckily, the room he'd chosen to camp out in was empty, the lights off and casting darkness that hid his large, fluffy body since whoever resided here must've been off for a certain kind of treatment or at an activity. Chanyeol figured it was the latter, considering that he remembered hearing about how the pediatric unit of the hospital often had fun things for the children to do to keep their mind off of their diagnoses. It made him think about how he could possibly volunteer here and assist the patients on days that he didn't have work.

Those footsteps came closer and closer and had the werewolf cowering closer to the wall, not wanting to risk closing the door since he knew it would make noise when it shut. From his view, he could just see out into the hallway, and he mentally sighed in relief once he saw that it was only a nurse rushing past.

Though, he wasn't exactly in the clear. Right after the nurse disappeared, a new set of footsteps sounded, and those sounded more frantic than the first. 'Someone is going to catch me,' Chanyeol thought to himself, wondering how he ever thought this was a good idea because more than likely, security would be called, and he'd get kicked out and maybe even banned from visiting the hospital without a solid reason.

So far, he hoped he hadn't been captured on any of the cameras since they would easily be able to identify a large, white wolf. And Chanyeol wasn't about to trap himself in this room when the patient returned, so he poked his head out into the hallway, wondering if he'd be able to sneak past whoever was now coming towards him. But once he saw exactly who it was, he reconsidered.

Surely, the doctor he happened to tease the Hell out of in the chat would rat him out, especially when his job would probably be on the line. That made him tuck back inside and hold his breath. If Kyungsoo saw him, he'd definitely have to leave right away.

@chanyeol p。ʳᵉᵃˡ-ᵖᶜʸ Halloween was a rowdy festival when it came to the celebration that the hospital allowed. There were only a few, but Halloween was the most dangerous one, and doctors were told to be high on alert and captured any candies that the parents or children may have sneaked in a week into Halloween and the day itself. Of course, the hospital still ensured that the dietary plans were followed and nothing should escape their glaring eyes, and they meant everything. There should be no candies, no lollipops, no pocky sticks, no jelly or gummies — no pumpkin pastries, no chocolate, no cakes and definitely, no ice cream. Children, as usual, complained and demanded justice for their so-called day. "But it's Halloween, Dr Do. It's a trick or treats." They whined, small hands yet powerful hold grasped onto his arms and swung them around, demanding for their chocolates to be returned.

It had been two years for him, working in the hospital and sure enough, he still couldn't get used to any of it. He believed that they could make a leeway, but if the professor said no, then it was a no. "But your parents made cookies and special jellies. They are delicious, right?" Kyungsoo tried, pointing at the packaged cookies in the orange baskets decorated with purple ribbons. More children started to surround him, and he regretted coming over to check on the children's last preparation. Of course, the staff had prepared a special performance for the children, and Kyungsoo was baited to play as a duckling that couldn't trick or treating with his other fellow ducklings because he was sick. He didn't remember much how it had happened, but he was sure it was the workings of the head nurse.

"Aaah, Dr Do," More whines, and Kyungsoo only blinked, letting himself be tugged left and right, front and back. He was going to allow the children to do that until they were satisfied. But, he saw a tail in the huge creak of the glass door of the playroom and his eyes bulged open. It wasn't a trick of the light so, quietly, he asked for the nurses to direct the attention away. So — Chanyeol might have come, and he might genuinely do show himself in his wolf form to the kids. Something that Kyungsoo hadn't agreed. They could get into trouble, both of them. The other hadn't let the whole thing go, and now, Kyungsoo needed to search for him quick.

He still remembered their little arguments, and Kyungsoo was taking a break from cutting paper strings shaped pumpkins. Lo and behold, he was also put into the decoration committee by the head nurse as well. Successfully, escaping from the children's captivity, he rushed out of the door, running down the hallway, in search of the said wold.

It was either his job or his neck — both didn't sound enticing.

@seunghee h。ˢᵉˡᵏʰᵉᵉ The playroom seems like it has been abandoned. Lights are turned off; nurses and children no longer filing the well-sized room. The blinds are pulled to a close as if they are red curtains of a theatre. Like an ending of the night's show, curtains lowered as performers bow down with grace and pride that today is another good day. He glances over to his watch and hums quietly. Most of them should be returned to their beds now so that dinner could be served, and the nurses could administer medicine at the right time. Each patient is different, and Kyungsoo understands everything there is about the statement. But when it comes to this specific room, their energy during the day bounces off the wall, and no matter how sick they are, they are cheerful, as if they could see tomorrow. Kyungsoo wonders how many more smiles he would see tomorrow? Would the count increase or lower? Kyungsoo works in the paediatric department, and thus, as broad as it is, more cases they take. It is not weird to see a child passing after a week or month being administered into the hospital.

He remembers the first time he was stationed at the hospital; you could say, he is a bubbly new resident. Fresh out of med school, ready to embark on a journey of treating patients, especially children. But, realisation soon hits him, and he thinks, it hurts more when you watch a child go. Sure, passing cases for adults hurt too, and he has known a few of his classmates drowning in an emotional turmoil the first few months.

But if you have to see a child dying on a bed — watches the innocent smile lingering even though, the light is gone, wonders what you could have possibly done — what part of yourself wouldn't you trade to save a child?

If there is any day that he sees another smile gone from the playroom, he wants it to be a remarkable recovery. He wants the child to go home with their parents, go to school, have fun and grow into adults. Health is a treasure, and he understands that, remembers every part of it every time he sees a smile that blooms across each child's face when he comes to check on them.

You lost something when you see a passing — you lost a piece of your innocence. Kyungsoo remembers the first death in his life, and it had been his grandfather. But working in a place equivalent to a station between the living and the dead, Kyungsoo starts to fumble. Doesn't it seem similar to losing the pieces of his innocence more, and more?

He finds himself startled, jolts awake by the familiar voice, looking up to the lone light in the room. The light resembling a candle comes closer, and closer and Kyungsoo braces himself next to the door. A small smile blooms across his face, and he nods. "Hey— sorry that it took me hours to come back and your session finished too. But yes, some food would be nice. I still need to grab my stuff, but we can meet up at the main entrance? And yes, sushi it is." He ends with a chuckle, wondering to himself how hungry she must have been based on her tone. She sounds hurried and in dire need of some food. Kyungsoo couldn't possibly make her wait longer.

@kyungsoo d。ᵈᵒ-ᶜᵃᶜᵗᶦ Chanyeol was never one to back out of challenges. And with all of the bickering he and a certain human had done, there was no way he wasn't going to pester Kyungsoo in person. Though, Chanyeol really did want to cheer up the kids who were stuck in the hospital on Halloween. Children should be out trick-or-treating after all! He truly thought that the tiny people would enjoy seeing a dog - well, a wolf - and have the opportunity to interact with it. Chanyeol had heard all about pet therapy, so why not have him be the 'pet'?

Luckily, he entered the hospital in his human form so that no one would pay him any mind since he didn't appear to be suspicious, especially when he was dressed casually and looked like he knew what he was doing. However, when he spotted a break room, he went inside, checked to make sure no one else was in there with him, locked the door, and quickly began to strip down. (His clothes would rip if he tried to shift with them still on). Once the last article of clothing hit the floor, Chanyeol tucked his outfit away into a cabinet that was high-up so that it hopefully wouldn't be disturbed. Then, he shifted into his canine counterpart, a giant, white wolf taking the place of where the human just stood.

Chanyeol managed to exit the break room by unlocking the door with his teeth before peeking out to check the hallway. As soon as the few visitors passed by, the wolf bolted and tried his best to sneak inside to the pediatric unit, which proved to be quite difficult because of his large size and because there were barely any places to hide. Hearing footsteps about to turn the corner and make their way towards him, Chanyeol picked a random room belonging to one of the patients and ducked in, hoping that whoever was coming didn't see him.

@kyungsoo d。ᵈᵒ-ᶜᵃᶜᵗᶦ Seunghee can’t help but smile at the way the young resident interacts with the children. It’s ranked number one in the ‘All Things Wholesome and Sweet’ category in her mind. She sends him a grateful look when he manages to appease the children’s impending whining. She mimics him, pressing her index finger to her lips, but gives the little ones a wink to show she’s teasing as well.

The poor guy looks exhausted yet he still promises to make time for the children. She finds it admirable, honestly. “No worries! I can only imagine how busy this place gets especially when you’re short on staff. Hopefully, things will ease up.” She gives him a sympathetic smile. “If not, I hope the next sing-a-long will energize you! I’ll make sure to play a lot of upbeat songs,” she promises, giving him a playful wink. She holds back a laugh as she witnesses his stumble, waving at him as he heads out the door.

Resuming the sing-a-long, Seunghee continues singing her heart out. Though it may be small, she’d rather be playing at the playroom over a big stadium venue any day. That’s because she’s able to closely connect to her audience here and see the joy on their little faces. She recalls the print-out tapped inside her guitar with the saying ‘Medicine heals the body, music heals the soul’ in bold letters. She thoroughly believes this with all her might. Maybe it’s just positive thinking, but she can tell that the twinkle in the children’s eyes has brightened. Even the weight on the nurses’ shoulders has lessened. If this is the impact that music has on this place, then she’s willing to sing for hours on end. Which ends up being the case. By the time she wraps things up, it’s already the evening.

“Wow! Time sure flies by when you’re having fun,” she says brightly to her young audience. They all cheer, eager for more songs. She can tell they want another encore but her voice is starting to get hoarse after all that singing. Luckily, she’s saved by the nurse who announces “Dinner time!” In order to get rid of the children’s pouting, she hugs them goodbye, pinky promising them one by one that she’ll return with even more music than before. They shuffle away to their rooms, leaving toys scattered all over the room. She decides to help put them away despite the nurses’ protests. “Well it’s /way/ past my shift anyways. Staying a few minutes longer isn’t going to make a difference,” she reasons with them. With the last toy back in the toy chest, she starts packing away her own things.

Seunghee looks up and sees a familiar face poking inside. “Hi there!” She replies as she zips up her guitar case and slings it over her shoulder. Making her way towards the door, she waves goodbye at the nurses before returning her attention to the young resident. “What a long day! Not sure about you but I’m famished. Is your shift done? If so, want to join me for dinner? I know a great sushi place!” Perhaps it’s a bold question to ask someone you barely know but she’s hungry and he seems like he could use a break.

@seunghee h。ˢᵉˡᵏʰᵉᵉ He must have made a fool of himself in front of the volunteer; after all, it’s not a pretty sight to have the children bully you. Kyungsoo fixes his glass once more, glancing away, unsure how to regain his dignity as a resident as well. “That’s good,” Kyungsoo says, nodding his head before he turns his focus to the children that are looking at the two of them, wondering what the adults may be talking about under a deep breath, low voice. “She said you guys are so naughty.” Kyungsoo teases, pressing an index finger to his lips to shush the complaints that start to form from their small lips. They know that they are angels, and Doctor Do needs to accept that one way or another. That is the look that they are sending in Kyungsoo’s direction, but the young resident ignores it. This round, he wins.

“Of course, it’s a bit tough to spend time with the children since we’re short on people. But, I would love to join you guys. Maybe not this time but surely, another time.” He replies, offering her a small smile. Taking small steps backwards, he heads to the door, almost knocking into a chair next to a potted plant. Sheepishly, he turns his attention back to the volunteer, waving lightly at her before disappearing behind the doors.

Throughout the whole day, Kyungsoo makes sure to finish his rounds in the ICUs, as well as reorganising the notes, and administering new medications based on the notes given to him by the head department. However, there is still a lot of things he needs to do that Kyungsoo is practically running, left and right. He would pass the playroom every few times, and the children will stop him too. But, he has to go, and he would tell them that he would play with them later. Later becomes in fifteen minutes to another thirty minutes and then, it ends up to an hour or two.

By the time he is done with work, visiting hour has already ended. The children are guided back to their beds, and dinner is served. The only few that are left in the playroom are the nurses cleaning after the children, and the volunteer. She must be tired; children are not easy to work with, especially when there are more than ten children. He has been working with them for years and even for him, and it can get tough after an hour or two. Kyungsoo wonders how she quickly deals with it. Maybe she has a few tricks underneath his sleeves? Oh, right— has she eaten? Did she eat with the children? Or is she waiting to finish volunteering first? Pushing the door open, he pokes his head inside, the chart from this morning still in his hand. “Hey.”

@han l。ᵃʳᶦᵉᵗᵉˢ Yoongi took a deep breath, sensitive nose picking up that acrid scent of Luhan despair. He wrapped his arms around Luhan, holding him close. "I know, bub. I know. I'm not going anywhere." He promised, knowing that there were no words he could say to make it feel better, only time would do that. "You're not alone. I promise." He tried anyway, and stayed right there until a doctor came in to check on Luhan. It had been a couple hours of recovery and there didn't seem to be any complications so the doctor announced that Luhan was free to go home to rest if he felt ready to.
"I can go pull the car up, are you ready to go home? We have a date with some comfort food and cuddling, don't we?"
han l。ᵃʳᶦᵉᵗᵉˢ 5 years ago
@yoongi m。ᵃᵍᵘˢᵗᵈ Luhan jolted at the sudden touch, but once he recognized it as Yoongi, his shoulders sagged in relief and he buried his face against the other’s chest where he let himself continue to cry until it felt like he had no tears left. “It hurts....but not physical pain. I don’t know, Yoongi. I feel so empty and I’m scared.” He mumbled against the cat demon’s chest, trying to find something to ground him and save him from the aching void that settled on his chest like a heavy weight. The doctor had warned him that he’d feel like this afterwards, but maybe he wasn’t as prepared as he thought he was. He really just wanted to go home and curl up with his cats and hide from the world.

@han l。ᵃʳᶦᵉᵗᵉˢ Yoongi had been good at waiting. Sitting in a hospital waiting room and doing nothing was a skill he had mastered at a young age. This time he had his phone and laptop with him so he had entertainment or at least work he could do but the cat demon was too anxious and worried to focus on one thing for too long and ended up watching Dr. Phil on the small TV in the corner instead until finally 5 hours after they had taken Luhan back to the OR, the doctor came out to tell him that the surgery had been completed successfully, and that Luhan could see him now. Yoongi shoved his things away and hurried to follow her to the recovery room where he knocked, and went in alone after a sad smile from the doctor told him everything he needed to know about how Luhan was doing. Seeing the elf urled up and still crying from what seemed like an exhausting session, Yoongi set his bag aside and climbed right into the bed to hold Luhan, carefully of his incision and wires.

"It's only up from here, buddy. I've got you." He murmured softly.
han l。ᵃʳᶦᵉᵗᵉˢ 5 years ago
@yoongi m。ᵃᵍᵘˢᵗᵈ He didn’t know how to describe how he felt. The surgery had gone really well according to the doctor, but Luhan just felt so empty.... There was no warmth there anymore, if anything he felt extremely cold as he laid in the recovery room. Four hours of surgery had gone by in the blink of an eye considering he had been put on anesthesia to make the process as painless as possible. Now, a different sort of pain had settled in the pit of his stomach, spreading up through his chest as he /ached/. He choked on the first sob since he had been brought to this room, doing his best to roll onto his side despite the different wires connected to his body so he could curl up to comfort himself. He didn’t know when they would let his friend back to see him, so for now he had to deal with these issues himself. He let himself cry freely in that hospital bed. He cried for all the times he wanted to cry when his relationship had hurt him. He cried for not breaking it off when that other person imprinted on his ex. He cried for all the good memories he could never have again. He allowed himself to feel this pain in its entirety so when he left this place, he could push it to the side and never think on it again.

@kyungsoo d。ᵈᵒ-ᶜᵃᶜᵗᶦ Seunghee watches in amusement as the children start piling up one-by-one on the poor guy. She /should/ be stopping them but she doesn’t have the heart to disturb such a cute moment. If anything, she wants to sneak in some photos but alas, her phone is inside her purse on the opposite side of the playroom. So she settles with giggling with them.

The children adore the young doctor, and from what she can tell, the feeling is mutual. Growing up, most of her doctors would talk to her for a mere five minutes at best, rushing to get a diagnosis and prescription written. He seems to really care about them, affection practically dripping from his eyes. Even when he gets all stern, counting down the seconds for them to scramble off of him, she can see how much he’s enjoying the moment.

“No need to thank me! I can’t think of a better way to spend my day than to hang out with these cuties,” she responds, turning briefly to give the children a warm smile. She tries to hide her disappointment, nodding her head in understanding. “Sure! If you can make it, that’d be lovely but there’s no pressure. I don’t want to make you rush through your rounds or anything. There’s going to be more singalongs in the future, anyways.”

Seunghee can hear whining noises coming from the children. Their little pouts would make most succumb to their whims; however, her experience as a music teacher has made her almost impervious to their adorable tactics. “Now, now kiddos. Doctor Do needs to do important stuff like checking on patients and writing prescriptions. Let’s get back to singing, shall we?” This does the trick in placating the children, now excitedly returning to their favorite spots.

She nods her head towards the front door and mouths ‘Make your escape now’ to the young doctor then heads back to the makeshift stage. “Thanks for waiting patiently, everyone! We’ve got a couple songs left so please join me if you know them,” she asks her little audience. Feeling energized by their cheers, she starts strumming away on her guitar and singing with all her might.

[] no worries! it’s been the same for me. :) ps i’m like so in love with your writing *o*

@ˢʰ ¹⁰³¹ chris e。ᵈʳ.ˡᵒᵛᵉ "Well...you're right about that." Lauren laughed. Once the information was presented to her about both of their pasts, the valkyrie slowly began to put the pieces together. It was true that she felt a connection when he walked in, but she never would've thought that the doctor taking care of her now would end up being the very same doctor she fought beside many years ago. "The saying 'it's a small world' really is true, isn't it? Because what luck do we have that we'd meet ago after so long? It almost seems impossible that we're now standing here together, doesn't it, Doc?" A cheeky grin spread across her face.
chris e。ᵈʳ.ˡᵒᵛᵉ 5 years ago
@lauren j。ᵈᶦᵛᶦⁿᵉ Chris chuckled. “I’m glad you trust me. I wouldn’t be doing my job very well if you didn’t.” He said replied. After he asked his last question and received the answer he thought he might the doctor smiled brightly, looking at the surprised woman. “Well I’ll be damned..” He mumbles. Chris knew he knew that name and had seen her face before. “L.J was the nickname I gave to a young woman I served with. She was the person who started calling me Doc and Doc Evans. I was called that for the rest of the war and some after.” He explained. “She was one of the best fighter I’ve ever meet in my life. She even thought me a couple of moves.” The griffin added hoping it would help bring back the memories of them during the war.
