There was one little detail that won Seokwoo over from the very first time he dove into the waters off Haepung’s coast. It wasn’t the turtles that enamored him nor was it the different species of fish that seem use him as shield from unseen predators nearby. It was the feeling of floating and flying, lost in all sense of time and space. Experiencing the nice aquatic scenery was definitely a plus. But the more he swam and dove, the more he could see how much damage humans caused, leaving ugly scars behind. What used to be booming with marine life was now a barren land begging for help. And that’s why Seokwoo was still in the water today even as the sun was setting—among other things.
He swam towards the surface, his ears popping as the sounds from the surface invaded his ears, clashing with his captain’s voice. “Look, Nemo. If I’m going to have to wait 10 minutes every time it’s time to roll back in, my wife is going to kill me.” He gave his boss an apologetic nod when his attention was yet again ripped away by an unfamiliar ship meters away. However, the sound of something being dumped into the water an all too familiar sound. He narrowed his eyes, sight picking up the same woman he’d seen a couple days prior in the same exact situation. The same woman he’d brushed shoulders with at the private loading dock where hoods equipment was stored. And the same woman he could find nothing about no matter how much time he took studying her whereabouts. “They don’t look like someone you should be messing with, Seokwoo. Leave it. It’s for your own good,” his captain warned as the ship took sail back inland.
It wasn’t until well into the evening that Seokwoo found his way back home. He hoped that his grandmother found something delicious to eat and wasn’t too lonely without him. “Halmoni~ I got your favorite ice cream and donuts. If you haven’t eaten yet, I’m keeping these all to my self-“ he looked up, frozen in place. There stood his grandmother, smiling gleefully as she turned away from the stove to feed the woman beside her. The same woman in the unmarked ship earlier. The woman at the dock. The same woman who no one seemed to have any info or clue about when asked. His smile, albeit stained, remained as he swerved around the other unfamiliar faces, all smirking at him. “Seokwoo-ah, you didn’t tell me you had so many friends. And this pretty one right here??? It’s a crime that you never brought Momo over.”
