Detective Baek is known to be extremely lethal in her way of handling matters in regards to the justice law. Where there is a crime that has been committed, the evil doer himself must face the consequences of his actions. For there is no one else better at obtaining a criminal’s confession, than Detective Baek Songmin herself, and there is no sense in playing games with a woman who knows how to play it better.
Only fools…would test the waters.
Opening the door to Captain Kim’s Office, Songmin makes entry without consent and immediately plops down onto one of the leather couches in the room. Looking up from the classified documents in his hands, the elder man frowned, “You’re late, Detective.”
“By five minutes,” Songmin retorted, “Sue me.” This comment she made should have sent his alarms flying, but after years of working on the force together, the Captain knew his pupil better than anyone else. Detective Baek indeed, had a mouth that would have needed to have been washed out with soap, but the work and dedication she puts into her job overshadows her flaws completely, aside from this, he adored the very fact that she was a force to not be reckoned with. Especially, when she has her eyes set on the prize.
“Your tongue is as clever as ever, Songmin.” Withdrawing his gaze, the Captain returned to skimming over the case he held in his wrinkled hands, gathering as much entail as he possibly could before disclosing its matters to his ‘favorite’ detective.
“I’m guessing you did not call me here to speak about my colorful way of speaking, so why don’t you cut to the chase. What is it that you wish to discuss with me, Sir?” The young woman pronounces with a frosty tone, as she crosses both of her arms over her petite, plumped s. Songmin looked over towards Captain Kim with sterned eyes, apathy could be detected from her lovely raven orbs that were dark like an abyss sea, if it were not for her steady breathing, she would have appeared like and resembled as stone figurine, beguiling to look upon, but too cold to the touch and too empty with zero ounces of emotions.
Captain Kim shifts his eyes up once more to meet with Songmin’s firm gaze, before breaking into a gentle hearty laughter, clearly touched by his darling detective’s strength of character and her ability in cutting down to the root of the problem without time to lose. He admired her determination, along with her ambition; clearly impressed with the results of Songmin’s previous accomplishments in the past. He knew a hard-worker when he sees one, but if he had to be completely honest with himself, Detective Baek was far from just a normal genuine hard-working team memberโwhen actually, she is a workaholic, a person who drowns themselves into their job by over pushing their limits while working compulsively.
“Your potential in this line of work never ceases to amaze me, Detective Baek. Though, I must admit, at times, I worry for you, dear, you have been dedicating yourself to this job entirely without a moment of hesitation, don’t you ever consider that at times, it could get a little much?” His question hangs in the air for a moment, awaiting for a decent answer from the lady.
Captain Kim sets the documents that he had initially been reading prior, down onto his desk gently, while his gaze never once left the younger one from where she seated. Observing her in quietude, as he waits patiently for her to share her thoughts.
“This job…will never get too overbearing for me, Sir. I’ve made the decision long ago to accept it with open arms and perform it to the best of my abilities. Should I begin to doubt it, I would eventually lose my purpose for why I chose this path to begin with.” Songmin came with the almost perfect response, her words made genuine sense and Captain Kim knew there'd be no point in trying to pry into the matters of dubiety, with someone who’s already prepared for what this industry has got to offer.
“Quite the response, Detective. One that I was not prepared for, but I suppose it proves in my faith I’ve got in you.” Captain Kim nodded along to his sincere words, retreating his attention back down onto the documents in front of him. A classified case, only someone with a knack for working overtime could handle.
“Well, as you’ve mentioned earlier, indeed. I did not call you here for a simple conversation, but for work. An old case from three years ago had been buried away into the depths of our storage here, and it had just recently been discovered by one of our newer rookies here. I want you to investigate this case and bring me great results as you’ve done so in the past.” Lifting up the thick dust-collected document, Captain Kim held it towards the young woman. Songmin instantly stood from the comfort of her seat and walked over to grab onto the document handed to her.
Bringing the folder back with her to her seat, Songmin then flipped it open to begin her investigation, reading over the details that been indulged into the papers, the information that has been collected from what she’s read so far, is about a murder case of a twenty-three year old japanese woman, and the possible suspect was her husband, a man by the name of Song Gyeon.
However, the case took a cold turn when evidence came through to back up the husband’s innocence, and eventually the case closed without it actually getting solved.
“I want you to look deeper into its matters, Detective Baek, but you must also have a partner to help you in the hopes of cracking this case.” Captain Kim spoke up once more, serious and absolute with his words.
Songmin turned towards the elder, “I can solve this case on my own, Sir.”
“No you will not, Detective. You may be one of my best, but every cop will always need his partner. And you’re no exception, besides, I have already assigned you a partner for this case.” Without bothering to hear what Songmin’s objections to this idea may be, Captain Kim has already placed his index finger over the button that controls the innercon, “Investigator Byeon, please report to my office immediately for discussion.”
“Investigator Byeon?!” Songmin nearly shouted at the top of her lungs at the realization that her partner-to-be, may have just been someone she had already worked with before in the past, but in genuine honesty, she had hoped, of all individuals, for it to not be him.
