Kim Hongjoong grew up in a normal home, with normal parents and a normal childhood. He wasn't spoiled but his parents seldom said no, he didn't go to the fanciest private schools but he also didn't go to some backwater school out in the hills. His childhood just... Simply was. Hongjoong was a happy little kid, with happy little dreams of being more than he was.

He grew up loving vintage crime noir movies; capitvated by the grainy black and white films where rugged characters proved that not all heroes wore capes, all they needed was one hand gripping a .38 calibre pistol and the other wrapped around a dark and stormy cocktail. The idea of Hongjoong solving riddles(a long time favourite pastime) and helping those who needed it desparately was terribly intoxicating.

Hongjoong would go through his schooling years without too much trouble, eventually getting into the police academy where he would consistently rank as a top student until graduation day.

He would start out small, as many entering the workforce do; simple administration and secretarial services with the zeal that only came from a genuine passion for the work he was doing.

Hongjoong was by no means favoured by his superiors but his work ethic, attitude and smarts earned him promotions far sooner than what would be considered normal.

It was only two months ago that Hongjoong would finally be promoted to detective and given his first case; one that seemed simple on the surface but would change his life forever.

That night would remain shrouded by darkness even after his month long hospitalisation. No matter what, Hongjoong could not remember the hours leading up to his blacking out, the first thing he saw being the machines he was hooked up too after surgey.

Regardless of what he did or did not remember, Hongjoong knew that something in him had inexplicably changed forever.

Just there, just below his skin, he could feel it slithering and coiling, just waiting to burst. Since then, the usually calm Hongjoong has struggled to maintain his now aggressive rage, he suddenly can't stand certain things he loved before and worst of all... the sudden urge to kill that grows stronger and stronger everyday.

instant ramen and ramyun — having his hair played with — travelling the world — puzzles; jigsaw, logic, etc. — french press coffee — finding extra fries at the bottom of the bag — the colour maroon — pop punk and alternative music — superhero movies.

illicit drugs — vacuums (a recent development) — prejudice — the sound of grating metal — undercooked eggs — traffic — crime (duh).

going for long runs and hikes, particularly in the early morning — simple logic puzzles such as sudoku, crosswords and wordsearches — visiting trendy bars (formerly) — volunteering at local shelters for the homeless.

hongjoong never really had any significant fears but after that night in the woods, he now fears losing control of himself and of his rage; as it simmers below the surface, ready to explode at any moment.
