Seo Joohyun (Korean: 서휸, born June 28, 1991), known professionally as Seohyun, is a South Korean singer and actress. She debuted originally under MS Entertainment, with girl-group Girls Forever, which went on to become one of the most best-selling artists in South Korea and one of South Korea's most popular girl-groups worldwide. Seohyun left the group in 2017 and eventually re-debuted with her single-album 'Say Yes' on May 1 2021 after joining DSF Entertainment. She continues to release music. Her official colour has been revealed to be "shining gold" and her fans are called "Solos".
Outside of her music career, Seohyun has partaken in acting projects starting with some small supporting roles in 2013 before moving on to feature as a lead in projects like 'Love & Leashes' (2022). She also manages DSF Entertainment's soloists while leading the team as CFO.
Pre-debut
Seohyun was born Seo Joohyun on June 28, 1991. Born the only child, she was quickly enrolled into piano classes as well as violin classes. Her mother also enrolled her in figure skating and horseback riding. She was eventually scouted by an MS Entertainment talent agent when she was singing in the subway with a performer.
She later graduated from Seoul School of the Arts.
Seohyun has shared minor roles in dramas and movies as a child, and even was the face of a cereal brand commercial series.
Career
August 5 2007-2017: Girls ForeverOn August 5, 2017, Seohyun debuted as the youngest member in the girl group Girls Forever. The group quickly gained traction with their innocent image, and became MS Entertainment's biggest gross earning girl group.
After ten years, the group eventually disbanded to allow the members to follow their personal ambitions.
Solo career
After a brief pause from the music scene, Seohyun eventually re-debuted as a soloist. On May 1, 2020, she released her first single album, titled 'Say Yes' that featured tracks 'Summertime' and 'Happy Time' which featured a pre-debut Hanbin (JANUS) and MJ (DIA).
On March 18, 2021, she released her first extended play, titled 'Promises'. It featured a complicated tracklist weaved into a story, with hit tracks 'Ain't Nobody' being choreographed by talents such as Miso of aurora. Her self-written tracks inspired emotional wins, gaining her an award for highest selling album of the year.

May 1 2020 launched the release of Seohyun's debut single-album 'Say Yes' featuring tracks "Summertime' and 'Happy Now'.
On March 18, 2021, the extended play 'Promises' was released and solidified Seohyun's success as a soloist. With tracks 'Ain't Nobody' gainined multiple wins on music shows, and the album winning most-sold copies across South Korea. Entirely written by Seohyun, and collaborated on with various DSF artists and talents, such as Miso (aurora).
October 4, 2022, Seohyun released her second single-album 'Don't Say No' choreographed by popular choreographer Lee Know and also written by Seohyun.

'Say Yes' was launched on all DSF streaming platforms on May 1, 2020, but was not publicly promoted through music shows. The debut single-album performed instead as a video art production, where Seohyun shares the story of embracing life and love. Despite the lack of promotion on music shows, the single album performed quite well, gaining over ten million views on the 'Summertime' music video within the first forty-eight hours.

'Promises' released on March 18, 2021 to all DSF streaming platforms. It was promoted on multiple music shows, with 'Ain't Nobody' accumulating a total of 4 wins during its cycle. The b-side track 'Peter Pan' was also used as the theme track for k-drama "Wendy's Flying", which also featured Seohyun as the actress for the mother-figure. 'Promises' was awarded the best-selling album of the year award.

'Don't Say No' released on October 4 , 2022. It was later promoted on multiple music shows, with an all-kill winning streak. Seohyun took first place against aurora and ΘHM on shows of the likes of Inkigayo, M!Countdown, Music Bank and Show! Music Core with her title song 'Don't Say No'. She also performed the b-side track 'Magic' on M!Countdown as a supplementary performance.
Acting Career
In 2013, Seohyun made her debut in acting with a supporting role in the drama 'Passionate Love'. She later went on to make her musical theater debut in 2014 after accepting the lead role of Sunwoo for the production of 'Moon Embracing the Sun', which was adapted from a novel of the same name. She later also took the lead role of Scarlet O'Hara in the musical adaptation of 'Gone With the Wind'.
From February-June 2016, Seohyun was cast as Sophie in the theater production of 'Mamma Mia'. In the same year, she had supporting roles in a small, Chinese film 'So I Married an Anti-Fan' and historical drama 'Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo' which earned her the 'Special Acting Award'.
From 2017-2018, Seohyun held various roles, starting with the short webseries 'Ruby Ruby Love' and weekend drama 'Bad Thief, Good Thief'. Her portrayal of her character in 'Bad Thief, Good Thief' earned her the award for 'Best New Actress of the Year'. Early 2018, she was cast as the lead role in the melodrama 'The Time'.
In 2019, Seohyun's acting career really took off, and she starred in a multitude of projects including the short drama 'Hello Dracula' and TV series 'Private Lives'. 2022 was the year of her big-screen debut with movie 'Love and Leashes' (based on the webtoon 'Moral Sense'). Later, she starred in the fantasy-romance series 'Jinxed at First' (2022).
