@〄 Lee Taeyong ¥ “Fair words.” Wooseok agreed, his tone carrying no argument but only understanding. It indeed wasn’t practical, not for an advanced cyborg who could simply download or transfer data in an instant. The act of reading was the antithesis of efficiency that they were build for. He turned another page, eyes scanning across the text with ease. “Even for someone like me, there is a certain… satisfaction in this process.” he admitted. It wasn’t logical, nor did it contribute directly to his combat or operational functions, but he continued to do it anyway.

Perhaps, subconsciously, it was his way of holding onto what humanity he had left. A quiet attempt to replicate the actions he once performed before he became what he was now. The simple act of flipping a page, absorbing words line by line, instead of instantly storing knowledge in his system felt grounding in a way he couldn’t fully articulate. “Maybe it’s foolish even.” Wooseok mused, briefly glancing at the fellow cyborg. “But if I used to do this before, then maybe continuing it now might bring some clarity… or even help recover what’s been lost.” He tapped his fingers lightly against the book’s spine. “Even if it takes longer, the process itself feels…significant.”

He then looked at the other, tilting his head slightly. “Does that thought resonate with you? Or do you think it’s merely inefficient sentimentality?” He asked, wondering if despite their similarities in enhancement, even if not at the same capacity, do they share something deeper. Was there a common thread between them beyond wires and circuits? Did the other also crave something lost, or was Wooseok the only one hopelessly clinging to remnants of a past that no longer belonged to him?

The uncertainty gnawed at him. Perhaps he was merely indulging in inefficient sentimentality, as he had questioned earlier. A flaw in his programming. Or maybe, just maybe, it was proof that despite everything, despite the metal and modifications, there was still something human left within him. He watched the other closely, waiting, not just for an answer but also for some unspoken confirmation that he wasn’t alone in this quiet, lingering search for something that might never return.

@〄 Byun Wooseok ¥✔ Despite the inquisitive tone, the musing sounded more like a thoughtful ponder than a targeted question. After much consideration, Taeyong decided to respond with a nod, providing no further elaboration. If the other was confused, he would provide a fully structured inquiry; till then, they were sure he understood what their statements meant.

They listened to the fellow cyborg’s explanation carefully—not unlike a student paying attention to a teacher in class. Judging by the words uttered, his mechanical modifications were not of modern compositions, and there had not been any recent refinements done. The revelation made Taeyong curious, wondering when was the individual before them first manufactured, and how long ago was he finally deployed.

They could be questions for another time, perhaps. Taeyong was not one to pry, unless the information could benefit themselves.

Once more, inquisition laced the cyborg’s words. Only this time, the sentence was undoubtedly a query directed at them. There was a momentary pause as they thought about the question, staring at the former as he read his book.

‘Fulfilment’ was an emotion unheard of to Taeyong. It was a feeling reserved to those with power, the ones who had the luxury to savour satisfaction. To the cyborg, they could not understand the concept, nor had their freedom been long enough to provide them the experience of such sensation.

They lowered their eyes to the book in front of them. They traced the intricate designs on the cover before flipping the tome open, skimming through the many lines of tiny texts on the pristine pages. The action was simple yet time-consuming; could they feel something like ‘fulfilment’ from such an activity?

“I cannot say for certain.” They finally replied, turning the page carefully. “It’s troublesome compared to the direct transfer of data to the mainframe. Time is being wasted on an activity that isn’t physically taxing.” There was no venom in their words, merely objective observation.

There was a brief pause to their remarks. Finally, they said, “Although, it’s a new experience. One that I find myself being intrigued by. Even if it’s time-consuming, I think the process is interesting.” They looked at the cyborg across from them. “My emotional capacity is limited, but I believe I at least don’t despise the act of learning topics like this. Maybe in the future, when I get the hang of this activity, I can tell you for sure whether I find this ‘fulfilling’ or not.”

@〄 Lee Taeyong ¥ “Train the system?” Wooseok echoed, his voice carrying a faint hint of curiosity as his gaze momentarily drifted to the book the other rested their hand on. The concept intrigued him, technology advancing to such a degree that cyborg systems could now evolve themselves. It was a stark contrast to his own design, which, while still advanced in its time, lacked that adaptive capability.

“My systems..” he began after a brief pause, “are old... archaic, even.” There was no bitterness in his tone, only acknowledgment of his limitations. “I may have enhanced senses and strength thanks to my mechanical parts, but the way I process and absorb information is relatively similar to a human brain. I observe, learn, and store what I encounter, but nothing beyond what’s already been hardwired.” He gestured vaguely to the stack of books he had worked through since he’d taken his seat. “Unfortunately, centuries of dormancy have corrupted large portions of my memory. Entire decades are missing, leaving me with gaps that no external repair could fix. To compensate, I have to do it all manually.”

Wooseok’s glowing eyes flicked back to the other, then to the book in his hands as he opened it, flipping through the pages. “Reading helps. My system is fast enough to scan and absorb the information from each page, saving and cataloguing it as I go. But it’s far from seamless it’s tedious, much like you said.” He nodded to himself, his focus briefly shifting back to the book before he continued. “I have no choice, though. If I don’t keep myself updated, I risk obsolescence.”

He fell silent for a moment, scanning a page and processing its contents. Then, without looking up, he added, “I imagine your system is far more efficient. Newer designs often are. But even so, I wonder... do you find it fulfilling? This process of learning manually?” He asked, his tone calm but with an undertone of genuine curiosity buried within.

@〄 Byun Wooseok ¥✔ to have their query be responded with a question and uncertainty piqued taeyong's interest further. briefly, their eyes glanced at the closing book, lingering for a mere second before raising to meet the fellow cyborg's glowing pair. they listened to the other's explanation intently, chin dipping in a short nod to show their acknowledgement as they mused, "is that so?"

since even the individual experiencing the phenomena had no answer to the strange occurrence, taeyong opted to drop the subject. perhaps in due time, they would encounter an incident similar to the current. maybe then, they would seek the clarification to their curiosity.

the following statement had no relevance to the topic beforehand, rousing the cyborg's intrigue. was this what folks would call a 'conversation'? they were used to replying to questions—the orders of their previous higher-ups, the concerned examinations of the engineers, and the idle "how are you" and "what can i help you with" from people around them—so this could count as their first time having a 'chat'.

the prospect brought an undiscernible emotion to their chest, one that they couldn't place a finger on. their mainframe was not wired to understand the feelings yet, and there was only so much the artificial intelligence could aid them in comprehending their surroundings.

turning to the book, taeyong rested a hand on the hard cover. "i've been encouraged to pick up reading. they said it'll train the system to record information by itself instead of awaiting outer assistance." their eyes blinked, once since they had taken their seat. "it's a different experience, though pretty tedious. i'm not acquainted to the sensation yet."

they then turned to the cyborg in front of them. "how about you? you're just like me, but here you are."

@〄 Lee Taeyong ¥ The subtle shift in light caused Wooseok's optics to recalibrate, adjusting to the presence of the newcomer now seated across from him. He observed the stranger for a moment, cataloging their features and mannerisms as a soft hum from his processors filled the brief silence. The question posed didn’t unsettle him but instead, it was accepted with the same neutrality as one might approach an incoming data query. “I was?” he echoed, tilting his head slightly in thought, as if the tear in question were a glitch rather than an intentional action.“I’m not entirely sure.” he admitted, his gaze drifting momentarily to the open page of the book before him. With careful movements, he closed the book, his hands lingering briefly on the cover, as though grounding himself in its tangible presence.

“My programming does things that I can’t even explain.” he continued, meeting the other’s unblinking stare. To him, the act of crying was as enigmatic as the concept of emotions itself an unexpected anomaly buried deep within lines of code. For a fleeting moment, his thoughts circled the possibility that it might not be programming at all, though he quickly dismissed the idea. Consciousness, after all, wasn’t something he truly considered a part of his framework.

“It’s not every day I meet a fellow cyborg.” he added, his tone almost conversational. His glowing eyes flicked to the book the other had abandoned on the table. A faint flicker of curiosity crossed his features before fading into his usual composure. “Especially one reading a book. I’d assumed most would prefer the efficiency of direct uploads. But here you are.” There was no judgment in his words, only a detached sense of observation as he studied the other cyborg with quiet intrigue. After all, he knew newer cyborgs would have an easier and much efficient way of uploading datas into their system.

@〄 Byun Wooseok ¥✔ bloodshed and despair were all they ever knew the moment their eyes opened. from battle strategies to effective killing methods, there was no room for compassion or the understanding of bodily pains. their language was limited, just enough to understand what their superiors were saying and just the necessary amount to respond and speak up about any maintenance needed.

additional information came in the form of computer data directly transferred to the mainframe—or, its organic counterpart, the brain. when the engineers repairing their missing limbs realised the functionality of their brain, they tinkered it to allow artificial intelligence. now, instead of awaiting data to be transferred, they could absorb information through their surroundings.

the first step, recommended by the engineers themselves, was to pick up a book.

taeyong had never seen, let alone touched, a book. the intricately designed covers, the smooth pages, the neatly printed text—the cyborg was deeply enthralled. however, reading took time, which was something they were not adapted to. how they wished to just inject the words from the tome right into their brain.

it was alright. with their newfound "freedom" (that was to say, without any superiors that would send them out to the next battlefield), they had all the time in the world to spare.

heavy tome in their hand, they walked through the labyrinth of shelves to find a seat. that was when they came across another patron. judging by his glowing eyes, the other inhabitant was a fellow cyborg. however, what shook taeyong was the single tear that slid down his face, before the subsequent nonchalance written across his countenance, as if the man had suppressed whatever emotions that surfaced.

their artificial intelligence allowed them to experience many quirks, including the feeling of inquisition. so, without a second thought, taeyong was slipping into the chair opposite of the cyborg. their book rested on the table before them, forgotten in favour for the perculiar individual in front of them.

"you were crying." it was a statement. their eyes were unblinking as they stared at the fellow cyborg. "and yet, just as quickly, you acted like it didn't happen. how did you do it?" not questions about the reason for the tear nor inquiries about why he stopped feeling sad. rather, they wanted to know how the other patron switched emotions so quickly. there were still some aspects the artificial intelligence had not adapted, including taeyong's lack of empathy.

The library was quiet, save for the soft rustle of pages and the occasional hum of Wooseok’s systems as he scanned through a digital archive. Seated at a table tucked away in a shadowed corner, the cyborg’s glowing optics cast a faint blue light over the screen in front of him. It was routine for him to come here, a habit to seek updates, absorb historical records, and expand his database of knowledge to gap the years he had missed.

Today, his focus was on a collection of personal journals from decades past, digitized and preserved for posterity. He skimmed efficiently, categorizing and storing information until a particular entry stopped him cold. The journal belonged to someone initialed B.W., which felt oddly familiar, though he couldn’t place why. The author described a family outing to a lakeside town, vivid descriptions of laughter and warmth filling the words. But it was the accompanying photograph that caused Wooseok’s mechanical movements to falter.

The image was grainy but clear enough to depict a young boy standing by the water, grinning widely as he held a small kite aloft. Behind him stood a man and woman, their hands resting on his shoulders, their faces illuminated by pride and affection.

The boy’s face…

Wooseok’s servos whirred softly as he leaned closer, the faintest flicker of recognition sparking within his circuits. For a moment, the blue glow of his optics dimmed, his mind or perhaps something deeper, grappling with a surge of fragmented memories. A field. The sound of wind catching a kite. A voice calling his name. A pang of something unfamiliar struck him, a strange tightness in his chest, and before he could process it fully, a single tear rolled down his cheek. The warm droplet startled him, tracing a path along the cold alloy of his face before disappearing into the void.

He stared blankly at the screen, his hand brushing against the now damp spot on his cheek. The world around him seemed to fade, the moment stretching impossibly long as the remnants of his humanity clawed their way to the surface. But just as quickly as the emotions surged, his systems intervened. A soft chime echoed in his mind as protocols reasserted themselves. His optics flared brighter, and the tightness in his chest dissipated, replaced by the familiar precision of his programming. The fragmented memory faded into obscurity, filed away in the depths of his mind where it could no longer interfere.

Wooseok straightened, his expression returning to its usual impassive state. The tear was already forgotten, as though it had never existed. He resumed his work, scanning through the remaining entries with cold efficiency.

Having missed over a century's worth of crucial world events, Wooseok realized he needed to update his systems with the necessary information. Unable to find an old system that was compatible with his own, he had no choice but to manually acquire the knowledge. He made his way to the library, meticulously scanning each bookshelf. His fingers brushed over the spines as he began to read, downloading historical data from the books in the history section to update his understanding of the world he had awoken to.

@† Kim Myungsoo She knew that meeting his family from what he had told her was going to be a journey and maybe a hard time - but she would just see it as another adventure to take in and maybe conquer or not. She wouldn't let this ruin or mess up the friendship that was starting to form with Myungsoo. "Hmh, okay - we don't have to do that then. I'll just be a good girl and not do anything bad or upset anyone," Yooa told him with a nod. She shrugged. "I bet it is cooler than you think - plus nowhere is boring when you have good company and are having fun," Yooa added with a smile. She slipped the books in her bag as he said that they should go. "Okay, lets go," Yooa answered him as she followed him to the train station. She also motioned with her head for Rui to get in her bag to cause less trouble or questions when they got to his home.

@❇︎ Yooa ¥✔ Amazed is such an understatement to describe what Myungsoo is feeling this moment. He stared at her in awe of her zen reaction. Myungsoo knew that introducing Lyrielle to his family would be a perilous endeavour. The Choi clan were shunned from court, known for their unwavering adherence to tradition and strict moral code. He chuckled that quickly died down. "Oh no." Myungsoo shook his head, frowning at the idea. "Anything but treating you like a slave. I cannot do that to you." He bites his bottom lip since there is a fine line between food and slaves. With a heavy heart, Myungsoo resolved to face his destiny. "Don't expect too much. It is but a boring old room." He scrunched his face. It was the dead of the night when the clock struck once again. "We better go." He stated, taking her hand with his as they venture off towards the train station.

@† Kim Myungsoo Yooa nodded as she looked at him. Yooa had heard from Bambi and her dad that not everyone would be accepting of them or like people who came from their realms. She understood that and didn't change how she felt about him. She still wanted to see where he lived and came from - it would be fun and exciting. "What family isn't protective and overbearing?" Yooa pointed out as she looked at him. "Well technically, I am unseelie fairy - which are the dark fairies - but I understand what you mean. I'm a ball of energy, pastels, and not an undead fangtasic person," Yooa held up her hands for a second to make claws hands before catching the book she was holding and clutching it again in her arms. She turned back to a serious expression as he went on. "I will do all of that - if you want to make it easier maybe for you - I can pretend to be your slave?" Yooa asked as she tilted her head to the side. She was a bit of a scared cat and baby - but she would try her best. "With you by my side, I am sure that I will be okay!" She beamed at him. "Plus, I am excited to see what your room is like," Yooa chuckled.

They don't take kindly to outsiders, even less so to people from Bahamut's Summit and shapeshifters." He hesitated, choosing his words carefully and unable to maintain eye contact. "My family has a history of being protective-overbearing, really. When I bring you, they will undoubtedly see you as a curious interloper, a creature of light who doesn't belong in our dark world. They may see your wings not as a marvel, but as a reminder of everything we're taught to fear." The young vampire had no idea how to disclose their distaste for slaves and traitors like Yooa's mother, or the fairy being a slave. "One, do not speak out of turn. Two, whatever happens and whatever you're about to witness please do not fright."

She nodded as she listened to teh rules, not really surprised by them. "Okay, sounds fair. I will hold in my natural curiosity and not wander off. "Sounds like a plan." He said, focused on how to word the rules right. His thumb running over her knuckles as if that is giving him the courage to say the following, "No mentions of who your adopted parents are. And don't go running around the manor without me accompanying you. Even Rui." His eyes studied hers and hope these conditions are enough to sneak in Yooa inside the first barrier in their friendship - his family.

He never thought of them as anything valuable since they were aware of what they’re getting into. Yet he came close to harming his friend and it’ll be hard to let it go.
Her voice sweet in his ears, stirring something rather calming in bloodthirsty nature. If he wanted it then all he had to do was say it.

"Take as much time as you need - I'll be out here waiting for you," She answered as she nodded. "I'll just be reading the book to figure out how to make you a sun ring - but still next to the bathroom so you aren't alone," She answered as pulled the book from her bag as she opened up the book again. She opened up to the page that she had stoped at as she continued to read, simply waiting for him.

@❇︎ Yooa ¥✔ It is fun to dream Myungsoo thought but his hunger becoming unbearable. His vision fixated on her inviting neck - pulsating as her heart pumps blood through those major arteries. Tempted and volatile, his sharp predatory teeth showing ready pounce at will. But this is Yooa. Myungsoo pursed his lips trying to hide it and nodded to express his own excitement. A day out basking under the warmth of the sun. Such lovely day to own especially with a friend. The reason why the young man escaped the scene not wanting to harm her in any way. Needless to say, it wasn’t her fault. Anyone can be as tempting as she is.

Inside the gents room, Myungsoo stumbled forward but got a hold of the basin. If it weren’t for it, he would’ve hit the cold tiles head first. She mumbled to Rui to get some blood bags and some tea for herself. She didn't mind his ticks or habits as everyone had them. It made him a bit more human less a vampire. She smiled at him as she rested her chin on his shoulder, her cheek brushing the side of his face as she read over his shoulder with him. "Wow that sounds so romantic and right what we are looking for! We don't have to find some magical amulet because we can make it ourselves! We just need to magic and spell that she did!" Yooa smiled at him.

@❇︎ Yooa ¥✔ Guilt twisting his guts, Myungsoo lowered his head for not being forthcoming to his friend. For despite the leash they have them on, the young vampire manage to do whatever he wants, leaving a pile of bodies for his elders to clean up. His worry lies if Yooa will think of him as a monster. No. If she’ll ever be her friend. He smiled and sniffed. “Ah. Once we get this day-walk ring then we’ll go for a hike up the highlands or the sea.” A wishful thinking of a man who lives under the glorious night. He sat at the table reading, but his tics becoming erratic as he kept scratching his head and shaking his left leg. His eyes shaky as he browse through the pages. “Oh! Here!” He turned to her and panting. “It says that there was once a witch who fell in love with an Old One.” He pulled his earlobe and pointed at the passage of words. “During that time her coven was on the hunt to kill every bloodsuckers and they were after them when they are out during the ungodly hour. To avoid being seen, the woman created a totem, a necklace for her beautiful lover to wear to be able to see each other.”

@† Kim Myungsoo Yooa shrugged her shoulder. "I probably shouldn't do anything that I want to be honest - it could get me more trouble than it is worth. But, maybe you should try it sometime. It wouldn't kill anyone for you to let loose and do you what you wanted for once," Yooa nudged him a little with a small smile. She shrugged as she looked at him. "I am really glad that you are my friend too! I like to explore nature too - the forest and fields are like my second home," Yooa beamed at him. She gave him a look with a small shrug. She watched him as he approached her with the book. She looked at him as he was flipping through the book then closed it snap shut. She noticed his eyes and wondered if he needed some more blood or something. "Are you okay? Do you need me to get you some more blood or something?" Yooa asked him as she watched him take her hands. She followed him to sit back down. "Alright, and keep reading this book," She told him as she sat back down at the table. She opened the book back up as she started to read again.

I still remember joining RPR 6 years ago and seeing this. Can’t believe it’s still ongoing to this day. All of you did a great job in maintaining the RP’s lifespan \^^/ Happy 6 years, yall!

I’ve contemplated and decided: May I have Lee Taeyong as a cyborg, please?

In Effect as of 01/24/25

We appreciate your application to the Ivory of the Mist community.

Until further notice, we are currently not accepting any more Demons, Wolves, Humans/mage, Hybrids, Kitsune, Vampire, or Shapeshifters due to the imbalance of races. We are currently seeking Angels, Dragons, Ghouls, Merfolk, Fairies, and Cyborgs. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Once the population in the 13 Kingdoms is balanced, we encourage you to reapply for your desired race.

Kind regards, Prince Hendery
