@✵ jeong yunho⁻ᵗʳᵃᶦⁿᵉᵉ @◈ park jihyo⁻ᵛᵒᶜᵃˡ ᶜᵒᵃᶜʰ as someone who was a trained idol and had been doing it for years, chungha usually had a very good poker face. but she couldn't help the way her features twisted as yunho sang, and it was silent as the song ended. she let jihyo speak first before letting out a heavy sigh, leaning forward on the table and looking at yunho with a frown.

"yunho-ssi... this was not a good song choice for you." chungha started as she clasped her hands together on the table in front of her, raising an eyebrow. "you aren't fluent in english, correct? hard to sing a song in another language if you don't know how the language feels in your mouth. that will certainly need some training. as for everything else..." the woman sighed heavily and brought a hand up to rub at her temple, shaking her head. "i almost wonder if you are practicing your singing at all outside of classes. even a single note mess up should not have you completely losing the melody. we will have to go back to the basics."

she wrote down a few notes before lifting her head back up, giving him a slight smile. "we are here to *help* you. but you need to be proactive about helping yourself as well, yes? we'll see you next week for class."

The instrumental of the song started. The soft piano melody filled the hollow room that only had Hongjoong and the 2 vocal coaches. Hongjoong began by taking a deep breath.

At first, his voice was soft, each lyric falling from his lips as a whisper of a secret. But then, weight clung to his chest with the words, and he let himself be consumed by the feelings of the song, eyes shut while feeling every note. As the chorus grew, so did his voice, stronger, raw, filled with an ache that seemed almost too real. By the last chorus, he wasn't just singing anymore, he was living the song. It swelled up in him, his voice soaring as if the song had been written just for him, just for that moment. After the last note's fade, the second of silence before him, and Hongjoong did nothing, he sat right there, lost in the song's echoes.

It wasn't his best performance, but it felt just right.

She buried her face in her hands before looking over at Chungha then back at Yunho. "Firstly, good job on getting through with your evaluation. I'll be frank, it started out fine then It ended poorly which I am disappointed with but it only means you'll have to put in more work to improve more which I know you can do." She nodded a few more times before giving her thanks to Yunho.

She leaned back on her seat, sighing once more. It was hard for Jihyo to hide her emotions but she couldn't be so cross with him. He did try his best and it was just evaluations, it just meant his training would take bit longer and she hope he wouldn't fall behind from his peers.

Jihyo chuckled as he seemed incredibly nervous. "You did struggle a bit with some of the higher notes, I felt like you hesitated for a moment before going for it. So we'll have to work your on that but I can't blame you for it, I totally understand the nerves. Something to work on for the next evaluation." She gave him two thumbs up before clapping her hands in praise for her student. "You can relax now."

She looked over at her colleague and gave a cheeky proud big sister smile before take a sip from her iced coffee. This meant exciting things for the trainee and Jihyo had a lot of plans expanding his range. Here's to hoping Jaeyun would be determined amidst the pressure.

@✵ yoo jungah⁻ᵗʳᵃᶦⁿᵉᵉ @◈ kim chanmi ᴄʜᴜɴɢʜᴀ⁻ᵛᵒᶜᵃˡ ᶜᵒᵃᶜʰ She was adorable, Jihyo thought. Even though she wasn't the strongest vocalist, Jungah still put in the work and it clearly showed. The coach wasn't sure if she was nervous or was thinking about a lot of things as her eyes were as wide as hers. All that changed though once the song had ended and she was all excited and bubbly about it. She was darn right adorable!

"I'd honestly say, great job! Chungha and I know you're not here to train as a vocalist but the ability to carry a tune and dance as well is admirable. To top it off, you actually did the damn thing! Alongside Chungha though, we wouldn't put you in vocal lessons if it's something you're set on doing but ours doors are always open. Congratulations kiddo, you did incredibly well."

@✵ lee heeseung⁻ᵗʳᵃᶦⁿᵉᵉ @◈ kim chanmi ᴄʜᴜɴɢʜᴀ⁻ᵛᵒᶜᵃˡ ᶜᵒᵃᶜʰ Jihyo listened to Heeseung intently, even though he struggled with some of the notes, she was still impressed by his willingness to push through. She quietly jotted down some notes and waited patiently for her colleague to finish her critiques, nodding in agreement with some of them too. She was honestly in awe of his determination and you could see it in his eyes that he really wanted to succeed, something that's rare nowadays. "Right, yes," she began, clearing before looking up at the trainee. "You can breathe now, sir. The song is finally over." Jihyo said with a soft chuckle to keep him at ease.

"I'll have to agree, this may not have been the right song choice for now. Surely we can revisit it later on when we've cooked your voice a little more. You did quite well compared to your first so I would definitely say it's an improvement from before." She said with a soft smile, humming a little before continuing, "I do see your tenacity and I truly do appreciate it, especially with the emotion you drove the song with. Good job, Heeseung, congrats."

When it was finally his turn, Yunho bowed to the two coaches, the nervousness was slowly getting the best of him even though he tried to keep it down. "The song of my choice is from Ed Sheeran, Photograph," He introduced, still avoiding eye contact with the two coaches as, for some reason, they looked more intimidating today.

At first, everything went well, he didn't make many mistakes, though his pronunciation was quite bad. It was towards the end of the song that Yunho hit the wrong notes; his voice wavered, and unfortunately, he was unable to recover from the mistake. His head hung low once he was done, knowing that he did disappoint them with his today's performance

@✵ shim jaeyun⁻ᵗʳᵃᶦⁿᵉᵉ @◈ park jihyo⁻ᵛᵒᶜᵃˡ ᶜᵒᵃᶜʰ chungha sat patiently and listened to jaeyun with a smile as he gave his performance, tapping her fingers on the table. she hummed along quietly and then stood up to clap when he was done, tucking her hair behind her ear. "fantastic job, jaeyun-ssi. truthfully, i have no notes—that might be because you're more jihyo-ssi's student than mine. but you sounded great, just the slightest bit shaky in some parts. your confidence is simply lacking just a bit, it's not about your talent at all because you're already there. thank you."

@◈ park jihyo⁻ᵛᵒᶜᵃˡ ᶜᵒᵃᶜʰ @◈ kim chanmi ᴄʜᴜɴɢʜᴀ⁻ᵛᵒᶜᵃˡ ᶜᵒᵃᶜʰ Although he'd been practicing daily and Jaeyun could see his own improvement for once, he still felt knots in his stomach as he walked up to the designated training room. Evaluations always made him nervous, much like anyone else, but he'd been working on himself, taking the tips and advice from the coaches and he wanted to prove he was working towards it. Even if he could see himself getting better, that didn't count for much if the coaches didn't see it. If he couldn't prove it to the people who mattered, who would be responsible for deciding if and when he got to debut. That's why these evaluations always felt so stressful and nerve-wracking.

Despite knowing he should not be using up his voice before an evaluation, Jaeyun arrived a little earlier at the practice room wanting to review it one last time. Just once. To warm up. He hadn't brought much, just a sweater and a water bottle which were set down by the sitting area while he went through the song one last time over the original singer's voice, keeping it light and not pushing it too much. He just wanted to make sure he wouldn't mess up the lyrics or melody and that his voice was in good condition. Not that he could do much by now if it wasn't, but thankfully, that wasn't the case.

The coaches were there a little earlier too, as expected, and Jaeyun greeted them with the usual bright but nervous smile as they made it into the room and set things up. He took a moment to sip his water and take in a deep breathe as he tried to calm down before heading back to the center of the room. The two women confirmed with him that everything was ready before they hit play on the track and the trainee breathed in again as the short intro played out before allowing his voice to merge into the song, his tone soft and smooth, words pronounced carefully as he tried to focus on the details while still keeping it natural.

The song wasn't entirely difficult but it did force him to play a little with his voice and skill so he was confident he could show what he wanted. He could feel his voice trembling slightly on the first chorus due to his nervous but he managed to carry it out well and as he got into the second verse he felt a little more confident, which showed in his voice as he felt less shaky and managed to sing the second chorus more assured, the confidence allowing him to focus more on translating the emotion into the words too, making his stage a little more well-rounded. By the end he felt content, the evaluation itself still mattered and he would be disappointed if he did badly, but as his hands clasped in front of him in waiting for the girls' words, he felt a little appeased at his own performance.

@✵ yoo jungah⁻ᵗʳᵃᶦⁿᵉᵉ @◈ park jihyo⁻ᵛᵒᶜᵃˡ ᶜᵒᵃᶜʰ chungha knew that jungah hadn't been brought to diamond soul factory to become a singer by any means. if anything, she was certain that jungah was going to excuse herself from the evaluation. but she had shown up with a song prepared, and chungha was pleasantly surprised. when the song was done, she clapped and smiled *brightly*.

"jungah-ssi, for someone who is not a vocalist by any means, you carry a tune very well. i don't plan on putting you into any vocal training unless you're interested since you're a guitarist, but great job!"

@✵ lee heeseung⁻ᵗʳᵃᶦⁿᵉᵉ @◈ park jihyo⁻ᵛᵒᶜᵃˡ ᶜᵒᵃᶜʰ heeseung was a sweet boy, and chungha was always happy to have him in her classes. he picked up criticism well and it always surprised her how eager he was to improve. she clapped when he was done with his song and stood up straight, having had taken a few notes for him.

"you're improving really well, heeseung-ah. i remember when you came to us, and hearing you now? i'm very proud of you. as for your evaluation today, i do wonder if this was the right choice in song. no worries, i know how you've been training and i know just how to continue. great job today. jihyo-ssi, anything to add?"

Despite her attempts to postpone and weasel herself out of the vocal evaluation Jungah knew that she would at one point have to face the music - and sing to it. Even with all the training the company had provided since she got through the auditions and the preparation she had done for today she knew she would fail before even stepping into the room.

Nonetheless she walked in with a bright smile plastered over her face, dressed in her usual punky attire with her red ponytail happily bouncing behind her. A few bows and introductions later she found her spot before the two coaches, feeling without Cherry in her hands. What she wouldn’t do to have her guitar there, using the loud riff of the strings to hide whatever flaws her singing would provide. At least then it would feel less intimidating. But it would also alter whatever perception the coaches would have of her vocal skills, meaning she wouldn’t get the help needed to go where she would have to if she had any hope of getting anywhere. So intimidating or not she knew she had to do this raw.

“Soooo-eh… Lets just-“
Jungah awkwardly gestured for the coaches to start the music, wanting this over with as quick as possible. The familiar melody started out over the speakers and Jungah let out a deep breath, ready to face whatever was to come. She had mumble-sung her way through this song enough times to feel a little comfortable with it.

And to her surprise it went rather good. She even thought she hit a high note she attempted at one point. It was a rush to feel like she actually managed what she set out for. So though she stood still after singing her mind was firing on every cylinder, a full on party in her head because all she could think was:

“Thank you,” the red-head hurriedly added, giving a polite bow to not just start bouncing with energy.

Once there he spent a second to adjust it before the music started, his body moving slightly to the music before he began to sing. He could feel the music coursing through his head, thinking of all his memories that made this song feel like magic to him. He sang sincerely despite it only being an evaluation.

When he finished he smiled sweetly to both women and bowed deeply.

@☾ hwang yeji "yes, performing is my passion." chanmi nodded a few times and led the way out of the dsf building towards a bbq place she knew of nearby, and she ran a hand through her black hair before smiling at yeji. "life coach? not quite. just...too old to mess around these days, you know? better to be close to my dream than completely give up, because it still makes me happy."

@◈ kim chanmi ᴄʜᴜɴɢʜᴀ⁻ᵛᵒᶜᵃˡ ᶜᵒᵃᶜʰ “Aside from being a vocal coach, do you dabble in being a life coach too?” She asked jokingly, a small smile displayed on her lips, grabbing her bag as well, following the older woman. “I should still treat you, i always believe in fairness.” Yeji hummed then her eyes widened, mouth forming an even larger o. Her respect for Chanmi was already at an all-time high, but hearing just how talented she was as an individual increased it tenfold. If Yeji was a cartoon, her eyes would be sparkling in admiration by now. “You’re an all rounder. Is this your passion? I mean performing?”

@☾ hwang yeji "of course i'm okay with it, i may be a coach but my goal is to lift you up to your highest just like any good friend would." chanmi nodded with a smile on her lips and picked up her hoodie to shrug it on, grabbing her bag as well so they could go to get lunch. "no no, not your treat—never your treat. anyway, yes i dance. i actually choreograph and that's my primary passion, but dsf doesn't have an opening for another choreographer and i did train to become a vocal instructor as well, so i filled in for what we need."

@◈ kim chanmi ᴄʜᴜɴɢʜᴀ⁻ᵛᵒᶜᵃˡ ᶜᵒᵃᶜʰ It was quite unexpected. The only people she had ever called unnie were the DIA members. Most of the people in the company, whether they’re her seniors or trainees that were older than her, she usually addressed in a formal way. A small smile made its way to her lips as she nodded awkwardly. “If you’re okay with that then uhm… unnie.” Yeji croaked out a bit only for to form a little o. Wow, she danced too? She only ever saw her sing during classes for vocal practice. “You dance too? Oh okay, if that’s alright with you unnie.” She said shyly, giving a sheepish grin while she nodded. “That means that we’ll have a lunch out next time and it’ll be my treat, okay?”

@☾ hwang yeji chanmi could see that yeji was obviously very nervous for this meeting, and she took a step closer before almost reaching out to take yeji's hand, stopping herself at the last minute. "we're not in class right now, you can call me unnie, it's okay. i look a mess as well, just coming out of dance practice, so you're okay! as for lunch, i haven't eaten yet. why don't we go get barbecue? you can tell me all about what caused you to text me out of the blue, and i'll pay."

@◈ kim chanmi ᴄʜᴜɴɢʜᴀ⁻ᵛᵒᶜᵃˡ ᶜᵒᵃᶜʰ Yeji was a bit surprised, not noticing how the time passed by. She was a bit sweaty, but not overly so, just enough to make her feel embarrassed. She quickly bowed fully, stammering a bit as she rubbed her nape sheepishly. “G-good afternoon saem.” She gave a sheepish grin before fishing in her pocket for a handkerchief, and (thankfully) managed to find one, to which she used to wipe her forehead and neck as meekly as she could. “Pardon the sight saem. I just had uhm a bit of a run, you could say?” She explained before clearing . “Thank you for meeting up with me saem. Oh before that, have you eaten lunch already?”

@☾ hwang yeji chanmi stretched her arms up as she left the dance studio, waving to the other dancers before making her way to the vocal training room where she had asked for yeji to meet her at. it was a little after 1pm - practice had run over like she had thought it would, but they were preparing hard for her debut and she needed to know that she was ready to do this.

"good afternoon, yeji-ssi." chanmi greeted as she opened the door, bowing politely before shutting it behind her - nobody needed to interrupt a one on one session, after all, and it would be better for yeji to get the training without anybody barging in.

@◈ kim chanmi ᴄʜᴜɴɢʜᴀ⁻ᵛᵒᶜᵃˡ ᶜᵒᵃᶜʰ Yeji came in earlier than their call time, not cause she was afraid of being late (which she was actually in any given appointment), but because she felt a bit more excited. She had always focused on practicing dance, and she knew that she was good at it, as far as she knew, but she felt like her other skills aren’t up to par with it, so why not just level up on that one skill to be a master at that? Why be a jack of all trades when she can be a master of one is what she meant. She didn’t think she was actually a master of it, just that she had confidence in that particular skill, after all, she had been honing it since she was little.

And so, Yeji walked around the room, humming to herself and doing some vocal exercises. The short walks then turned into a full on jog as she waited for Chungha, singing random songs she could think of. It started with their songs, from Bang, Likey, How yoh like that, until it changed to Janus songs such as Monster and Really Really.

@☼ xu minghao ʸᵘᶻᵘ Her eyes slowly moved to the lit screen of her phone again, making the mental excuse that she was just checking the time as she waited for Minghao to show up. In reality she was hoping to see a certain name pop up, no matter how selfish that sounded. She knew this was time meant to be dedicated to Minghao, and she enjoyed the time they spent together, but lately her mind had been… preoccupied.

The door suddenly swinging open forcibly dragged her out of her little moment of inner turmoil, gazing up at the man that had just walked in. “Ah! Haohao, hey!” Her thoughts were scattered all over the place until she spotted the paper bags her offered. Food had always been a good distraction. “Ain’t you a sweetheart? Do you mind me taking the savory one? I haven’t really eaten today.”
